With Paintshop Pro 7.x, I can create TGA's with alpha transparency maps, with no problems.

Now I downloaded the 8.0 trial of Painshop, but TexView doesn't seem to like what PSP80 produces. It just won't load them!

Any hints, besides using Painshop <v8.0 ?
(I would REALLY like to use v8.0 or higher)

are you sure photoshop 8 supports tga files with transparency? (when you save the file are you able to enable and disable the option "alpha channel"?)
with my version 7 I first had to download a plugin, that enabled to save tga files with alpha channel

What you want to do is possible, depending on your imagination and the way you implement it

Absolutely sure. I can even open it in Photoshop, and it all works. Looks like Paintshop Pro 8.1 adds some extra header info or something, that makes TexView get all confused. When using 7.1 or 8.0.1 there's no problem. I think I'll roll back to 8.0.1

I haven't tried Paintshop Pro 8,I use 7...You sure your saving as "uncompressed" TGA files?
And everyone says 32bit uncompressed but PSPro7 only does 24bit uncompressed but it works
