In this single player mission, after you've driven to the base to pick up your crew, are they meant to get into the tank with you or follow on foot?

I ask because I wait and wait and they just stand around and go prone around the tank but make no attempt to get on board. I've tried getting out, turning off the engine, refuelling/reloading ammo first but it makes no difference.
