Thread: Need info on soviet sam systems

  1. #1
Where can I get detailed information on SAM systems? I'm planning to simulate a few and would like as much information as possible like interior pictures, how the radar operates, target acquisition and tracking e.t.c.

I searched on google for the fan song that controls the S-75 Dvina ( SA-2 Guideline ) but only managed to find basic information.

    FAS, I would assume.

I was at FAS yesterday It has great background information but it doesn't go into enough detail. I need enough information to simulate some of these systems to the level of a study sim, like Falcon 4. Right down to the function of individual switches.

    Arrow

I doubt you'll find inormation that details what the switches do, its not a good idea to make it possible for anyone to lean into the radar and turn it off, countries have security issues to think of and manufacturers have industrial espionage to worry about!

I doubt it is possible to simulate advanced SAM systems to that degree in Ofp...the closest you get is target, fire, boom...

Try Air defense weapons of the former USSR and Russia

I found it useful for technical info when i was looking for info. Not sure how much info you want tho...
If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough

Well if you have played study sims like Falcon 4 then you will know that it is possible to simulate military systems to a high degree. Of course the F-16 modelled in Falcon 4 is a slightly older version and most of the information was declassified and thus obtainable.

I've seen some great interior pictures of the SA-6 system recently on a website and the person who took them is going to give me some information on the operation of these systems. The lucky guy is actually going to take part in a live exercise in these systems! So this kind of information, while hard to find, is not impossible to obtain

There is a significant possibility I get to man a SA-11 in couple of years, beat that.

Mmm, you and a couple of thousand other young men, EiZei... ***Besides, the BUK is getting outdated so your training would be rendered obsolete in some time.

Edit: I´ll get myself the brand-new FDF ADATS, you can stick with your crappy SA-11!
