For FPS in general I'd say Doom but more recently OFP of course. In the future HL2?, Doom3? OFP2 of course.

Delta Force 1 and 2 were the trend-setters in military FPS's, attempting to offer semi-realism, large terrains and serious MP possibilities.
OFP mopped the floor with them and everything similar that's come out since.
OFP is certainly the best military game but the MP interface is not as blatantly simple as many UBI and novalogic games. this is nit picking but ghost recon does a better job of special operations missions no metal gear solid esque missions and the AI is more fun to play against they use cover and shoot innacurately and there is suppressing fire used in GR. on the other hand OFP has massive combined arms engagements which GR does not reproduce at all neither does GR have the atmosphere. yes it is nerve racking at times but its not atmosphere like hearing the radio crackling "tanks inbound" then watching a platoon of tanks come over the hill and think OH S**T!!. frankly OFP has the best moments of any game i have.
OFP and GR for the reasons above
Half Life upped AI... flashpoint was one of the first combat where linear gameplay had been replaced with some freedom

also deserves to be mentioned in my opinion .
Small squad tactical shooters .
( Waiting for " UZI " to appear and mention " Seal Team ")
Half-Life upped AI and it forced developers to think about the story and depth in first person shooters too.

Not to be too much of a jerk by putting a twist on things, but IL-2 is an awesome shooting game. Quite realistic, although they fnebbed IL2FB with the latest patch. Oh well.
But yes, as far as FPS' are concerned, OFP ranks highly.
