sseagle 0 Posted April 9, 2003 You figure the first thing that the US forces do is take down GCI and Radar systems, so the enemy relies on visual contact. If they see a Mi-8 they wouldn't shoot down their own helo would they? The military has all kinds of Soviet equipment anyway, it's not that unusual. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If so, the CIA contracted one of the Northern Alliance clans to provide air support to the Green Berets and CIA during the beginning of the Afghan War. The NA clan had a handful of old Soviet Mi-8s and Mi-2s and I think even an Mi-24 that they operated from Tajikistan. Read the book "Hunt for Bin Laden" by Robin Moore.
