CFB Skins - Canadian Forces Base Skins - Release thread

Recommended Posts

CFB Skins is a mod that re-skins some of the base arma units and weapons to add a flavour of the Canadian Armed Forces. An attempt has been made to keep the skins and the equipment as closely modeled as possible (within the confines of the existing ARMA equipment) to weapons and vehicles that are in use with contemporary forces.

Check out the wiki - https://github.com/astruyk/CFB_Skins/wiki - for pictures of it in action.

Our squad has lots of concerns about that mod being maintained going forward (it's been broken for a while) which is why we decided to roll our own. I have a great amount of respect for the work they've done, but the lack up updates and support prevents us from adopting it permanently. As far as I know it's being sunsetted.

I'm a big fan of all things Canadian. I am downloading your mod now as I type this.

There is room for multiple mods in the community. I've been a huge fan of the CAF mod going back to OFP when it was the ONS mod. I don't think its all the same original guys, I believe it has evolved and modding persons changed over time. The thing about CAF is that it isn't just CADPAT, its weapons and vehicles also. Secondly the CADPAT is very accurate (yours may well be too Its still downloading).

As far as the mod being sunset'ed, that is true. They are planning one more significant update then calling it a day due to the amount of work it takes to keep it running and the fact that regular updates from BI tend to break the mods, however, they did say that if there was any one out there who is interested in taking it on, take over the mod they are welcome to step forward (just saying). It would be a shame to see an excellent mod like CAF come to an end.

Congrats on your release, I look forward to giving it a run.

Part of the reason this mod doesn't add anything other than skins was to keep required maintenance in the future to a minimum. Since we use all of the default ARMA weapons and equipment it should keep things from breaking (too badly) when BIS updates. At least that's the plan. ;)

Kinda futuristic CAF, and as NATO members, equipped with their standard issues (MX and all those vanilla toy-like weapons) =)

I agree with your intentions, and this mod fills the gap as CAF mod is intended for whom enjoys present day gear and yours is targeted for a more vanilla audience... and as you´ve said, it keeps the BIS constant fiddling with the engine fallout to a minimum!

cheers!

Updated to v.1.0.1 to fix a signing issue. Now signed with a mod-specific key and includes server key (overlooked in original release).

* Added a lot of new units with CADPAT TW & JTF2 setups:

New version released. See initial post for download link.

2.0.1

* Populate backpacks for units with appropriate equipment

* Add optics and attachments to default unit setups

* Add unique icons for all of the equipment

* Fix typo in CADPAT uniform names where they were showing as 'CADPAD' instead

* Use more appropriate backpack camo for units needing carryalls (most AT/AA ammobearers)

* Fix some issues with uneccessarily overridden uniform weights and volumes (now they inherit from the base class correctly)

* Fix an issue where there was a JTF2 member in one of the CADPAT TW groups

* JTF2 units have balaclavas by default now

* JTF2 units have some unique equipment now (silencers, tan rifles, different optics)

Any plans to add arid camo? Or to add more of the arma vehicles in CAF camo to this faction? Like a CAF strider or APC?

Thanks for this, will be downloading when I'm home from work!

Definetly. AR camo is high on my list - I've got a base texture for it worked out, but I need to go through and re-detail all of the existing items. The rough list of things I'm planning on and working towards is here: https://github.com/astruyk/CFB_Skins/issues

---------- Post added at 04:55 ---------- Previous post was at 04:54 ----------

New version released (TWO in one day!)

2.1.0 - Rebels!

2.1.0 - Rebels!

* Added new 'Rebels' faction to OPFOR with lightly armed zeus-compatible units built from existing ARMA uniforms including:

* 13 Kinds of infantry unit

* 3 Vehicles (Armed and unarmed technicals, quadbikes)

* 7 static weapons (2xHMG, 2xGMG, Mortars, AT, AA)

* Added groups for 'Rebels' factions:

* 8 kinds of infantry group

* 2 Vehicle Groups

* 3 Mechanized Groups

* Rebel units will (sometimes) be equipped with AK-47's if the HLC AK mod is detected

the Arid camo looks really really great.

I asked before about APCs and MRAPs. is that something we might see in a future update?

I have 2 suggestions for you going forward, feel free to ignore them though if you don't like them:

1) Reduce the brightness/shinyness of the JTF2 uniforms and vests. the Black is too glossy and almost glows in the dark. Not a big deal though.

2) Make a group of retextured MXs with green fore ends to emulate our current rifles.

As I said, just suggestions. Keep up the awesome work!

There are plans to reskin some vehicles in the future. You can see the full list of things I want to do here: https://github.com/astruyk/CFB_Skins/issues .
