Patch 1.24 (Bootcamp Update) Feedback

Recommended Posts

Good points, though I think a forced walk for extreme fatigue would perhaps be a step to far, especially as some of the included mission include 2k cross country romps! Forced walk for leg injuries on the other hand (as opposed to the forced crawl of previous games) would be welcome. If the devs wanted to include a 'limp' animation all the better! :)

But you are already forced to walk when you're extremely fatigued or injured. :)

Your exhausted max speed is 7 km/h (gun raised) and 9 km/h (gun lowered). If your legs are shot, it's 5 km/h.

Normal running is 14 km/h, walking 4 km/h.

I made a little research on numbers of fatigue and speed elsewhere: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?168240-Fatigue-Feedback-(dev-branch)&p=2730113&viewfull=1#post2730113

Hello. I mainly play on some Invade and Annex maps. I run Anti Tank usually. My load out usually consists of some random MX with about 6mags. My launcher with one in the tube, and 3 extras. It seems i have to carry that much weight since there's that much armor there. Now with the fatigue mechanics in place I'm feeling like i am more useless and a hindrance than a contributing member of team. We get dropped off in the AO 1 to 2 km away, the normal run/sprint/ to the area. Well, it's now run/slow walk till i get frustrated, lay down, go get some ice from the fridge, pour a jack and coke, come back, get comfy, put headphones back on, get up and continue jogging to AO. By the time i can actually see any armor, people are already getting wasted by the big guns, AI are sniping from across the AO since they never get tired it seems. I usually get to the area, lay about for a bit, to get my "70's Porn breathing" under control, pop up and start contributing. It seems i can get one or two rounds off downrange before the Operation Duck and Cover happens. When i hop in a pilot slot with a 45 smg, 3 mags, a helmet and first aid kit, i can sprint about 100m to the heli, lay down to get the blur out of my screen before i get in and go. However I loathe going in for evacs. It sounds like an orgiastic man love session in the back of my chopper. Soooo much heavy breathing.

All rants aside, i still love ARMA 3 and will continue to play my new Military walking sim.

Ah right I see. Though when Alex mentioned walking my mind jumped to the 'tactic-cool swagger walk' which considering your research must amount to about 2km/h? :p

First up, I apologise for my previous post, not the points I made but how I presented them.

Really? funny how JSRS has one of the if not THE most realistic sound mod available, and as far as i'm aware he did not have to change Arma 3's entire config.

The devs stated that in order to make changes to the way the game handles suppressors they needed to change the configs, I didn't look into it thoroughly but as far as I can tell every gun made the same sound when suppressed, that has now changed. I can't remember the entire update so someone chime in here please.

Please tell me there un-realistic weapon sway that they have just put in is not your valid reason to discuss that it makes this entire game much more realistic?

The core mechanic is undeniably significantly more realistic, the end result needs tweaking a bit, e.g. in game I recover in 20 seconds flat if I am lying down, but fatigue appears to climb much faster than I would expect.

It appears you know absolutely nothing about the arma community and its efforts to make the game what it should be, can I suggest you look into educating yourself in this matter before making embarrassing comments such as that.

Sarcasm there, might not have been very obvious. I have a tendency to do that.

Please do explain with your extensive Arma knowledge what COMPLETE changes to the game mechanics have been made to make this game Less "quick run around shooting FPS game".
Again, the weapon sway significantly slows down the pace of the game as sprinting around is now a bad option, atleast if you want to do anything at the end of that sprint/
And if you read properly what I had said you would have also seen that I was expressing MY Opinions and Disappointments in relation to what Arma 3 should Be as this is a FEEDBACK thread.

And I expressed my opinions in relation to yours, although I did so in an ill mannered way. Again, I apologise.

Since the last "upgrade" I only can play in single player, multiplayer crash my pc, (Nvidia 760gtx, cpu quadcore, 12gb ram).

I spend a good month playing this game and now it's another single-pla

There are more than this post in this thread, so to anyone getting BSOD's with the update. Try updating/complete reinstall of the latest drivers for your ethernet.

Well the speed is like walking but the animation is not. And if it was the normal walk, it wouldn't really look like the person is struggling to move.

And I really don't expect any new animations, sadly, considering the complexity of animation engine.

Oh right so even that 'stance' is roughly 4-5km/h? Also yeah, it really wouldn't suit in image of a wounded person.

ROther than that, i've been countering the weapon sway by using vts_weaponresting.

Heh...good temporary fix, but if you have to use a mod to counter base game mechanics, something is wrong... :p

the new update broke the game for me. I really dislike the futuristic vanilla arma 3 setting, but where beginning to really enjoing the because of all the mods, making the game a more modern setting, like the aplion mods, humvees, helicopters, massis weapons and so on. But the new update broke alot of the sounds to these mods. I know some have updatet the sound configs of there respective mods, but some of them still isn't working as they should and some of the mods will not be updatet. Find this pretty annoying as i didn't find the big problems with the sounds in the first place. Think i probably wil play arma 2 instead, or something else for somewhile, and after this i dont really know if im gonna go back to arma 3 again.

Maybe, you two, could try to explain your "team-mates" that they would have to wait for you in order to be protected from the armour units? I mean...how difficult is that? Does it really cost you a lot of thinking in order to do that?

What do you think do squads in real life? Not waiting for each other?

You simply have to change your gameplay and tactics because there is another variable in the game - fatigue.

In fairness I get his point about the breathing, and fatigue does need tweaking I've come to realise. In my opinion the whole thing needs slowing down, accumulate fatigue slower but recover slower as well.

I'd like to apologise again to those who have been affected by their broken sound modifications. Of course, it was not an easy decision to affect existing UGC, but we believe the longer-term benefits outweigh this (we hope temporary) issue. It's true that sounds have been somewhat under-prioritised in the past but, with our new audio team in place, we hope to move in the direction of better vanilla sounds and better configuration options for modders.

Along the way, it's possible that existing solutions will become broken. We'll try to avoid that where possible, and provide notice to modders to that they can work around / adapt to the new standards. The fact is, if we want to make any progress with our sound engine (and we do), some changes must be made that may affect existing work.

If you'd like to read up on more details/motivations behind the changes, our Encoding Lead provided some details about a month ago, which outlined the alterations and linked to some documentation.

Think i probably wil play arma 2 instead, or something else for somewhile, and after this i dont really know if im gonna go back to arma 3 again.

Of course, that's up to you - it's still a great game, after all. :) Maybe you can keep an eye on our dev-hub for future changes and we can win you back! ;)

Best,

RiE

The fatigue does go up too fast, but it also goes away too fast.

Going prone can quickly remove all fatigue.

Instead, shouldn't you be able to run much much farther (100m should be no sweat) but not be able to rest as fast?

After I've run a mile, I need at least 2 minutes just to be able to calm my breathing to a comfortable rate.

And to you guys who are still bitching about the broken gun mods:

BI gave a warning to mod makers more than a month ago. If your mod maker still hasn't patched their mod, maybe it's time to find some new ones.

But seriously. You guys complain about bad sound engine, and then complain when BI actually does something. Relax. The vanilla guns are great, I don't even understand why you guys need more guns.

That's what I want to hear from a developer finally. But anyway I fixed for you. I think we have been waiting too long and paied enough money to get an appropiate sound engine. Which is what you (BI) have promised to us long time ago.

Edit: I dont want to sound arrogant, but the audio has been complained way too long to be "under-prioritised" and that's unacceptable and I'm just upset.

No one has explained to me what was wrong with the old muzzle configs. I perceived 0 issues with it nor has anyone I play with.

I'm all for improvements, but if they are going to effect mods negatively I'd like an improvement that actually does something noticeable.

You wanna talk about improvements? I mentioned Weapon resting, which is also a simple addition.

The update has to do with attachments and some bugs regarding fire modes and suppressors. As nimrod123 said, it's great to see bohemia taking the initiative to roll out large fixes regularly. The only downside is that a bunch of ignorant people go around complaining about it and spamming the feedback tracker with it even though they are constantly asking for things like updates to the sound engine.

If your mod author *still* hasn't fixed their mod despite being notified of this update more than a month ago, it might be worth finding a mod maker who cares more about their creations.

Calling this game realistic...I think you would have a hard time even convincing a five year old of that. Moon buggy-physics for vehicles. Grenades/mortars do next to no damage unless they land on your head. 10 shots to kill anything. 2 modes of everything. Undamaged car/destroyed car. Undamaged building, destroyed building. Weapon sway/fatigue are just the next comical additions to the list.

I'm missing the Benny Hill-music here.

Let's call it what it is, COD-spinoff.

I really like the update it adds cool stuff but what i will never ever understand:

Why is the extrem laser accurate aimbot AI aiming accuracy never fixed or tweaked (?), i mean without scripts or mods that reduce the ridiculously AI accuracy ArmA is and was UNPLAYABLE in SP and MP !

Do the ArmA Devs play their own game, do they really think the AI aiming accuracy is ok ??

It feels like playing COD against a 12 year old with a aimbot cheat..

This and the awkward infantry damage model...

Calling this post factual... Nope.

Vehicle physics when it comes to collisions is lacking, but handling is wonderful. Driving the trucks especially is great, you can really feel the weight of them when lumbering over hills.

10 shots? That's simply ridiculous, unless you're shooting an armored target with small calibre rounds. Not unrealistic.

More damage modelling for vehicles would be cool, but not really essential. How are there only 2 modes? Wheels can be individually damaged and destroyed. Windows can be shot out. Engine can be damaged and this affects performance.

Most buildings have undamaged, damaged, and destroyed states. This is usually satisfactory. Are you expecting dynamic destruction? The game would still not be out yet if they had to take that gargantuan task on. Most games don't have this level of fidelity, and none of them do in a map as large as Altis. Just because it exists in some other games, Arma 3 is unrealistic because it doesn't have it?

It's ironic that you call Arma a COD-spinoff immediately after mentioning the fatigue and weapon sway changes. This patch has made the COD playstyle unfeasible.
