( BBC ) Gaza UN shelter shelled, 'killing 15'

At least 15 people have been killed and more than 200 injured when a UN-run school used as a shelter in Gaza was shelled, the Gaza health ministry says.

Hundreds of Palestinians were in the school in Beit Hanoun, fleeing heavy fighting in the area.

It is the fourth time that a UN facility has been hit in Israel's offensive against Hamas militants.

From the UNICEF's Official Twitter account:

We are appalled by attack on @UNRWA school in #Gaza, where 100s of people sought refuge. Many were killed, incl. women, children & UN staff

shame that once again UN shows being powerless and not effective, UN should stop both sides and stop things such as bombing (by any side) civilian locations , just like Jihadists should not be able to touch anyone, the same to Israeli, cause today there was school bombed, which is shame collateral damage that should not happen,

UN is ineffective in cases like Rwanda massacre 10 years ago (Tootsie vs Hootu tribes war with over 1 milion dead), ISIS crimes on population, Crimean invasion, Israel vs Palestine ,

UN troops should make a safety zone so no Israeli shoot Palestinian and vice versa , Israelis can walk on the street without rockets or suicide jihadists, UN has no balls and seems to lack credibility to stop wars/invasions/genocides on globe even after 10 years ago cases in Rwanda (Tootsie vs Hootu) :/ such collateral dammage should not happen having drones, all high-tech etc.

It feels like Groundhog Day over there:

Israel has hawkish leader who expands settlements all the while demanding Palestinian leaders to accept Israel, stop rockets - 2 state solution is very close. Peace for abit then someone starts some shit.

Israel leader eventually becomes doveish and loses support of his people on next attack. New tougher leader emerges expands settlements yet again, and promises 2 state solution if Palestinian leaders accept Is................................................

The only difference now is that Israel's current Gov't doesn't even attempt to pretend they are interested in 2 state solution and I doubt Bibi will ever become a dove.

UN can't prevent anything because they can only talk.If they had a standing army(and I don't mean their cute blue helmets soldiers) they could reinforce their yammering and try to prevent future conflicts with better chances.Park UN ground troops around those UN facilities and let's see how trigger happy IDF will be.

( Al Jazeera ) West Bank Palestinians die in fresh clashes

Four Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank, a day after mass protests over Israel's offensive in the Gaza Strip which has killed more than 800 people.

In the first shooting on Friday in Hawara, near Nablus, an Israeli settler shot dead an 18-year-old and injured three other Palestinians, sources told Al Jazeera. Two hours later at the same protest Israeli soldiers open fire, killing a 22-year-old.

Two other Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli solders during a protest in Beit Ummar, near Hebron. One of those killed reportely worked for the Defence for Children International charity.

An Israeli army spokeswoman had no comment on the incident in Beit Ummar, but said there had been "confrontations" between Israeli troops and Palestinians near Nablus "in which settlers were involved".

Israeli army radio reported that a woman settler opened fire in in the incident near Nablus.

yeah its spreading to the west bank and with the last days off ramadan they really want to support their fellow palestinians in the gazastrip by taking the fight to the israeli's

for the relenthless murdering(again) of their fellow ppl, but it only plays into their(israel) cards and giving them exuses to kick more ppl out off their houses and land and push the settlers further into the west bank.

and again israel hit the UN, but nobody cares or say anything. shows how got the power!

And what is Saudi Arabia and other arab nations doing to help their brothers and sisters ? NOTHING. So why does anyone expect UN and the west to find a solution.

I feel sorry for all the innocent people that dies over there but Hamas are same guilty as Israel killing civilians.

I feel sorry for all the innocent people that dies over there but Hamas are same guilty as Israel killing civilians.

IMO there are a lot of differences.

First, Hamas has mainly killed three dozen IDF soldiers in firefights.

While the IDF has killed almost 800 people, the huge majority civilians, among them kids and UN staff.

Second Hamas it's recognized as a terrorist group so their methods are by default criminal. The IDF it's supposed to be a regular and sovereign army, that acts with caution, following the international war conventions and human rights.

So obviously the Israel's army has way more responsibilities and are doing an awful work. Obviously all armies can commit mistakes, but 800 people in 18 days it's way beyond any red line ( just compare the situation with Eastern Ukraine were 800 is almost the total amount of killed of both sides and during 5 months ).

Another fact is that both the UN and other international organizations have complained about the IDF tactics and even evaluating their actions as possible war crimes. Again the IDF it's supposed to be a legit Army and act as one, not as a bunch of thugs; while Hamas it's basically that a bunch of thugs acting as what they are.

I don't know who are the commanders of the IDF, but most of them deserve a court-martial, for targeting hospitals, UN facilities, private houses ( even if they were used by Hamas ), that is not allowed in by the Geneva Convention.

Obviously besides the crazy extremists, there is still people that have common sense:

I agree IDF has committed serious crimes killing and bombing UN protected areas. I also understand the way you think and believe me we are not to far away from each other there.

But the parts must find a solution and that can only be reached if the palestinians accept the state of Israel and stop all the terrorist attacks against Israel. Israel must

stop the blockade of Gaza and support the rebuilding of the infrastracture and economy. You have to put water into your wine some times to defuse a tension and to be able to enjoy peace.

but you say about compromise

but in case when there are 2 religious parties fighting , compromise is impossible, because religion by definition doesn't accept compromises (cause all what is not-this religion is sinful and evil)

example ?

Poland and abortion

i can say to Caholic "okay, so you are Catholic, you do not erase pregnancy, but i am not Catholic, so i can, okay, do we have compromise?" than Catholic say "no way , you f*** ret*** mothe*** child murder !!!" (and in Poland you have 5-10% Catholics demanding in parliament or in demonstrations (no voted to parliament parties with 1% of votes) to forbid anything for 90-95 % of Polish society as example)

or the same with porn in TV, i say "compromise ? you do not turn on tv, but i have porn movies in tv in special channel ?" than Catholic says "forbid !!! baaaaaaaan , ban, ban, put mass to all chanels in cable tv !!!"

they do not know word compromise, cause according to any religion compromise is breaking bible/quoran/whatever rules (example - killing for apostasy which i already prescribed here few times)

compromise is impossible, because by definition, each religion says about its own superiority and "only we are right, only our god is real god, only us you must obey"

only thing possible is : 2 nations/religions/traditions living in 2 their their-own-only not-mixed solid grounds, the problem here there is no 2 differents grounds out there in Middle East , rather forever UN peacekeepers dividing them by thick wall is solution (when UN will leave scene, they kill each other again)

cause among Jewish society you have guys who believe that "god promissed this land in one book 5 thousands years ago" and in other side you have guys who believe that "all infidels must die"

extremists there are not eliminated by societies, but voted, which means societies there are extremistic, so compromise is impossible

Israel agrees to 24-hour Gaza ceasefire

Israel has accepted a UN request for a 24-hour ceasefire in Gaza, but warns the army will act if it is breached by Palestinian militants.

A crisis cabinet meeting extended Saturday's truce until midnight on Sunday (21:00 GMT).

This comes despite Hamas militants firing rockets, rejecting Israel's earlier move to prolong the initial 12-hour ceasefire by four hours.

Hamas said it wanted a complete stop to fighting and an end to Gaza's blockade.

There is one Vice News' new report of the series Rockets and Revenge ( I can't add the video here due to certain sensitive images ).

It's quite interesting because they show how the IDF is targeting civilian houses with or without warning; which is an obvious war crime according to the Geneva Convention.

It's also quite obvious their goal. To bully the Palestinian people as much as they can to force them to abandon their homes and lands and then stole them.

Later the Israeli say that it was fair, as they went "voluntarily" and that they had all the right to take that "abandoned" territories.

Ive also been already thinking about that, with all that fuss about israeli illegal settlements on palestinian territory it might as well be that they want to terrorize palestinians so that they just flee somewhere and never return.

According to wikipedia the current losses look like that (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Israel-Gaza_conflict):

Palestina (different sources):

Gaza Health Ministry: 1,062 killed and 6,037 wounded

PCHR: 928 killed (764 civilians)

UN OCHA: 924 killed (676 civilians, 129 militants, 119 unknown)

ITIC: 674 killed (241 civilians, 204 militants, 229 unknown)

IDF: 330 militants killed and 108 suspected militant arrested

Israel (different sources):

43 soldiers, 2 civilians and 1 Thai worker killed; 185 soldiers and 32 civilians wounded

Hamas: 80 soldiers killed and 1 captured

This operation has nothing to do with "protecting Israel" it is evidently about showing the Palestinians where their place is.

Shelling civilian areas with or without warning is a warcrime.

Israel is creating the next Generation of Hamas fighters by killing so many uninvolved people...

Agreed.

To me, the West Bank and Gaza are bantustans inside Israel's borders, and Hamas is just another insurgency using the tactics of terrorism and guerilla warfare. Israel's problem is that refuses to counter it by making sure Palestinians get humane treatment and legal justice.

Right now they are stuck since Israel treats them as foreigners but won't let them have an independent state. Thus they have been subject to martial law, loss of property, and collective punishment. Not to mention that parts of their own leadership (Abbas) seem to have been bought off. That's a recipe for trouble.

At this point Israel needs to make the annexation official and give Palestinians the protection of full citizenship. "Demographic threats" be damned. Then the truth-and-reconciliation commissions and war-crimes trials can begin. That the only way to finish Hamas.

( BBC ) Israel intensifies Gaza attacks after Netanyahu warning

More than 100 Palestinians are said to have been killed after Israel intensified its bombardment of Gaza and warned of a long conflict ahead.

Gaza's only power plant caught fire as Israel carried out 60 air strikes, targeting sites associated with Hamas, the Islamist group which controls Gaza.

UN staff members are said to be among those killed.

An Israeli military spokesman said the strikes signalled a "gradual increase in the pressure" on Hamas.

Ten people, including eight children, were killed Monday when shells hit a refugee camp near the beach in Gaza
Shifa Hospital had been hit, too. Two people there were injured
A short time later, Israel sent a text message to the media blaming Gaza "terrorists" for the attacks.

http://www.star-telegram.com/2014/07/29/6005227/official-13-killed-as-shells-hit.html?rh=1

Several Israeli tank shells slammed into a crowded U.N. school used as shelter for refugees in the Gaza war early on Wednesday, killing at least 15 people and wounding 90, a Palestinian health official and a U.N. official said.

Israel has losses too, I dont dont deny it. But as it seems IDF is deliberately attacking civilian targets and refugee camps now.

( BBC ) UN accuses Israel over Jabaliya attack

Bob Turner, UNRWA's Gaza director, said the UN was "confident" Israel was responsible.

He said UN workers had collected fragments of projectiles that suggested they were artillery shells fired from Israeli positions to the north-east of the school.

The Israeli military said the incident was under review.

The military said in a statement that its "initial inquiry suggests that militants fired mortars earlier this morning from the vicinity of UNRWA school in Jebalia".

I could understand one mistake, but what has the IDF against UN buildings? Gaza is not that big, to lose track of humanitarian buildings.
