End of Gamespy

Recommended Posts

Important notice: effective May 31, 2014, Gamespy will cease providing all hosted services for all games.

This is going to affect multiplayer in our games that use Gamespy for matchmaking, cd keys authentification and NAT traversal from Arma: Resistance to Arma 3. We are planning to introduce an alternative solution using Steam to Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead and Arma 3 users.

Other games (Take On Helicopters, Arma 2, Arma 2: Free, Arma, Arma: Cold War Assault) will have more limited multiplayer experience with loss of server browser, cd key authentification and NAT traversal systems. That said, direct IP connection to servers should work even after Gamespy services are no longer available.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

An update summary on all things related to the Gamespy shutdown:

At the time of writing this post the Gamespy service still works and is available.

It’s now possible to activate all Arma 2 franchise keys on Steam. Just take the key from your manual and activate it on Steam ( https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5414-TFBN-1352 ). This includes keys for Arma 2, Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, Arma 2: British Armed Forces, Arma 2: Private Military Company, Arma 2: Army of the Czech Republic in all variants and editions (digital, retail, keys from Arma 2: Reinforcements and Arma X).

If you encounter any problems, please, contact our support (support@bistudio.com)

Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead now has a beta steam branch, which is independent on Gamespy, but requires Steam to work (Multiplayer functionality was switched from Gamespy to Steamworks). (How do I opt into beta program in Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead?)

More info about the beta patch available in special sub-forum here

Arma 3 has been running both systems (Gamespy and Steamworks) simultaneously for several weeks now. Just change the settings in the game server browser ( How to switch to Steam in-game server browser )

For other games (Arma 1, Arma: Cold War Assault, Take On Helicopters), which are not going to be updated to work with Steam, we’ve prepared a set of FAQs ( http://faq.bistudio.com ) and a web-based server browser ( http://master.bistudio.com/ ). It enables server owners to add their servers to the list, for users to directly connect to the servers (if they have a Steam version of the game) or to easily learn how to connect. Currently it’s in Alpha stage and we’d like to improve the functionality.
