Designer's Notes:

Guerra do Ultramar covers the little known war Portugal fought in its oversea provinces of Angola, Guinea and Mozambique against several local liberation movements from 1961-1974.

This war of small units that cover vast distances seems to be perfectly suited for the ArmA engine.

The conflict also combines my favourite music era (1960s/70s) with a very unique mix of assets, that range from WW I vintage to then-modern equipment.

I tried to create a package that offers many possibilities on a hopefully AI friendly and well performing map.

While trying to stay close to history, gameplay and availability was always more important when selecting assets for the project.

I intended to release sandbox missions for all sides on release. Now it looks like there will only be a Portuguese one in the first release.

This is no sign of bias, rather a sign of time constrains and the fact that I found it harder to create the missions for the liberation movements.

As you can see in the credits, this is really a community project. I can hardly model and my 2D skills are not much better.

I would not have gone anywhere without community help. A big 'Thank you!' to all contributors. You are just awesome!

Also many thanks to Bohemia Interactive for still allowing/supporting modding in these days of DLCs.

Cheers,

Dimitri

Hi Dimitri, I'm very happy you have ben able to finish your work at least.

Can't wait to test and why not, make some good missions as well.

Old Tonal (Ofp era), or better BWC mod (Good old ArmA 1) are coming back !

Carry on the great work mate !

I have been asked for the layout of the map.

Here it is:

uthq.th.jpg

This is still subject to changes, however.

Very interesting project. Are there any plans for SADF units?

Thanks, but no. There are other mods that cover/will cover the bush war (like BWC mod or ARMSCor).

If I expand this, it will be into the Congo 1960-1974.

Very Cool, will we see a separate map release?

I have no plans for a seperate map release, although I might port the map only to ArmA 3.

Looks very nice ! GJ

Thanks Gnat :)

Cheers,

Dimitri

Thanks guys!

Sorry, the few Portuguese gamers I know were too shy to record some samples.

Which is a shame, as I have this really nice ambient voice module from HIP, but no samples to fill it with life :(

So, if anyone is speaking Portuguese and wants to help: You are more than welcome!

Cheers,

D.

Looks amazing. Besides from my interest in your mod covering these events, Arma 2 certanly needs more quality Africa stuff. Can't wait for this to be released.

Parabens!

I can't wait to try this.

These post-colonial conflicts are all too often overlooked.

Which is a great shame, especially when you consider that their effects continue today.

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing difficulties with sourcing voice-overs.

I'm not surprised, its funny how personal a voice can be.

Which is rather a shame given how much native languages add to gameplay's authenticity.

Thanks for the tip! :)

I have one last Portuguese left to answer my pleas, then (or maybe additionally) I will ask Caico1986 too.

Meanwhile, I'm working hard on additional content and an improved mission for the upcoming test, which will hopefully result in a release before christmas.

Cheers,

Dimitri
