Agreed. It's like the dilating pupiles after an adrenalie rush (?).

In-game is quite different as isn't that "I forget my glasses" type of blur, more like "I've been hit by a hammer in the head". :P
And don't eat so much FPS.

If is annoying it shouldn't be optional cause everyone would disable it to have a little edge (at least in MP). I know its more realistic then muffled sounds but if you are planning to play a long session, it could cause real headaches.

Check this, it covers everything I just wrote (should have posted it early): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RZJfVGVeME
Also, this guy has DoF enabled wich causes some blur in objects.

ear ringing near an explosion or tank shooting just for a few seconds would be pretty awesome though then slowly fade in the battle sound again.

It's already in the game, and expanded on in ACE.

No, definitely not awesome. I already hear it every second of the day. If we're being that realistic the character should be deaf and have a high volume ring for the rest of it's life.

I'm inclined to agree with those who would prefer muffled sounds instead of ear-ringing. Now normally I'd argue in favour of strict adherence to realism when it comes to sounds in arma - and I totally agree that ear-ringing is the most realistic option, however I don't think it's wise for people to unneccessarily put themselves at risk to hearing damage.
