let me add one more thing.

it seems like we are getting some weapons from VBS also. when we had our upgrade 1.3, it came with XMS, Laser Designator, Steyr Aug, and G36. theses are more suitable for these days. and VBS is known to have them.

also, a few months ago, VBS had pictures of wall with open in the center. now with OFPR we have that too(for example, walls at the western part of Velka Ves, Nogovo). and furthermore, ofp.gamezone.cz noted that in Czech version of OFP, they have some VBS objects like VBS church and VBS building.

so in essence, I think BIS is trying to let general OFP users like us not left behind much in comparison to VBS.

Thumbs down

It is interesting to see how much mis-information exists about Independence Lost. ***If you do a search on Google you'll find that some sources report that IL is a private project of a (former?) BIS employee. ***Tiscali Games article ***Other sources have interviewed Marek Spanel who refutes this claim, but refuses to admit whether it is an expansion or a stand-alone product. BonusWeb.cz interview
Other sites have even less to report then we know ourselves IGN, Gamefaqs ***Luckily for the community we have Theavonladies What is Indepence Lost faq

Unfortunetly for BIS, this isn't a good type of "buzz". ***Now is the time when Codemasters should be dropping little "exclusives" to various gaming mags and websites. ***I'm not sure about the politics involved, but maybe CM dosen't allow BIS to do their own exclusives? ***I would also agree with an earlier poster who said that CM really dropped the ball on advertising here in the U.S. ***If I was BIS I would be extremely disapointed that one of the greatest games of all time would get less advertising then some halfassed game like Virtual resort spring break...

imho, i think that widespread marketing is RELATIVELY pointledd in my honest opinion. Nw, you gtta understand that i am in no way an advoceate of widespread consumer marketing.
for example, why does a bottle of cologne sell for 50 bucks when it takes 50 cents to make? because they pay several thousand dollars PER commercial to have it advertised during some crap show like "sewing with martha stuart". im more easily swayed to buy something if its inexpensive, verusus having to pay 3 times as much and seeing it on tv a few times.

ofp is a VERY well known game, and any person who is into games enuff to dish out 50 bucks for one, is most definitely gonna know about operation flashpoint. so why the need for marketing for ofp??? does the american public have to see ads for ofp during the superbowl in order to buy ofp?!?!!?

if that is true, be prepared to spend twice as much to buy a game.

I happen to think CM is a good publisher. I'm sick and tired of having to wait for months after a "world-wide" US release before the first copies appears where I'm at. With the OFP release it was actually the other way 'round. Feel the pain, US citizens.

And making Red Hammer available as a downloadable purchase was brilliant, no matter what you may think of the add-on itself. No distribution delay while the publisher concentrates on the US market.

Personally I don't need snazzy PR to encourage me to buy games. If I did, I would've bought every Blizzard game released and The Sims to boot. (Shudder!) For me, it's how the publisher acts in regards to support and community building that counts. You wanna talk bad publishers? How 'bout EA and their clueless handling of the Black & White patch/goodies? I'm not saying that CM have done everything right in the past, but they sure could have done a lot worse. IMHO it'd be better to save those harsh words for a more deserving publisher.

BTW didn't BIS say that they would release some of the VBS units that didn't have "classified" information or something?
