Hosting a Remote Server with Steam?

I'm in the process of acquiring a remote server with FTP access for the purpose of hosting an Arma II server, but I am wondering if/how I can even do this with the Steam version of the game?

I think I would also need to install ARMA II itself, but I am not sure about that. I know I'm probably going to be running a mod that requires both (Life) and I know pretty much how to run the server on my OWN machine, and I have worked with remote servers before, just not with Steam games.

Not any different from non-steam. Just copy your files over as you would normally via FTP. Yes, you would need to install the game in order for this to be possible.
