Visit some small towns in deepest darkest Quebec or Francophone Montreal and you'll understand.
They take the stereotype and crank it up to 11.

The clip doesn't seem to be on youtube anymore, but whenever I think of Quebec I will forever think of that scene in Canadian Bacon where they get pulled over to copy the english insults over to french.

In 2007 I was up North in a town called Prince Rupert [Just over the British Columbia/Alaska border]. While standing in the tourist info center looking at some maps
a Texan came swaggering in the door, huge cowboy hat, spurs, the whole gettup minus the 6 shooters, slapped $50,000 in cash on the desk and said "I'd like to buy Masset"
You said he had $50,000 in cash and was wearing spurs? Yeah, totally believable.

Probably just struck oil that week, took a bath in a hot-tub full of money then decided he wanted to own a piece of Canada. Why he chose that particular place, we will never know...

It even made the newspaper in town. In a northern fishing town of 15,000 during the summer thats big news thats talked about for awhile.
That was in 2007 when Prince Rupert opened it's Cruiseship terminal to host visitors travelling the Inside Passage to Alaska

I'd post a link but they don't have a webpage with archived articles.

Americans showing up with large amounts of cash in the North to buy up cheap properties was not all that unusual back then.
unlike the US/Canada land border you can easily get into Canada with large amounts of money by boat without any issues because it's
nothing more then calling a local number when you moor your boat in a Canadian port. No vehicle checks, No showing ID
no face to face interviews. Just your name, boat registration number and how long you are staying.

Come visit the Boating, fishing and Camping shows in Vancouver and Alberta. I'll guarentee you'll spot the Texan's a mile away.
last year there was a guy strutting around with wearing a 10 galon hat, spurs, a Yak fur vest, bushy handlebar mustache.
kinda like Techno Viking crossed with a real viking and a cowboy.

Buying entire towns isn't that unsual either in the US but usually they are virtual ghost towns, Masset, BC is small but not a ghost town by any means.

Some people with money to burn do that sort of thing, just go around waving money around expecting to get anything they want.

The Queen Charlotte islands [Haida Gwaii] is one of the last pristine areas left on the West coast of Canada.
It's Canada's version of the Galápagos Islands

A huge portion of it is protected land, You can't even travel to many parts of the lower half without a guide
because there are ancient native villages there with above ground burial sites and caves with human remains.

It's close to both the Mainland towns with roads connecting to the rest of Canada and Alaska
it has an airport and a ferry service to the mainland and Alaska.

A house on the beach can be had for as low as $50,000. Even less if the seller is desperate enough.

This seems to be the random comedy videos on the topic of Canada thread. I should open a random comedy videos about Germany thread then.
