First of all the BIS developers must be thanked for making an excellent game. The Mr Murray Arma Editing guide and Alex Sworn's ArmaEdit v213 guide as well as the Ueber Editor Tutorial have been essential sources of information. The BIS Forum, BIS Wiki and OFPEC site have also proved most useful for understanding how to edit missions. Thanks must also be given to Chris Anderson for his Arma Edit tool. Unpacking missions made by SafetyCatch and W0lle has been useful to learn the peculiarities needed for Arma II missions. The CWR2 team deserves thanks for their excellent work on bringing back the favoured OFP terrains in a new and improved form.

There might be the odd undocumented feature when running the full mod that a static weapon could be manned by a CWR2 unit due to a mixup in config class inheritance in CWR2 Demo 3, but otherwise they should work fine. They were created and tested with the standalone islands setup (the express purpose), but most of them were also played running the full mod. Should you nonetheless encounter any oddities, then please report back.

Sander

Just played Advance Track and Block Plane in SP on Expert with SuperAI for extra punishment, and had a blast. What a bloodbath! I don't see how just 6-10 guys can wipe out like a hundred highly-armed opfor, but doing it sure is fun. A good player makes the BAF look like supersoldiers, but really it is a matter of the AI not being aggressive and lethal enough, and their aging Russian fighting vehicles are woefully armored and underpowered. The AI gunner in the Jackal with the grenade launcher didn't engage nearly enough, making me have to clean house with the Warrior 2. Those insurgents at the airport should more carefully guard their ZU-23s to prevent enemies from capturing them and turning them on their previous owners, thus creating a sea of blood and carnage. ;)

As usual, the mission design is top-notch. Keep up the good work, sander! :)

------------------------------------

Edit:

Played Cache Assets with full CWR2 Demo4 mod installed: Great! Noticed that a set of cached weapons in Mokropsy had a setpos a little high (about 0.5 m above the barn floor):

Playing this in SP, ArmA2:CO 1.62 with CWR2 mod (not the standalone islands)

Mined Trick - ending message saying that both UAZ and truck have been captured appears after capturing only the UAZ, no message when capturing the truck. Mission ends regardless.

Covered Way - the warfare buildings in the village of Oshta appear as OPFOR and are targeted by friendly AI. The objective of clearing Oshta doesn't seem to get completed.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback.

The adjustments made to various buildings on Nogova in Demo 4 compared to Demo 3 require adjustment of multiple objects in various missions. This will be done in an update.

Covered Way

The Warfare buildings in Oshta are setcaptive true in the init and are subsequently not engaged by AI nor are they an obstacle to the objective ticking off when all enemies have been killed. It worked fine when I tested this just now, with the objective completed when the last enemy was tracked down. Are there additional factors in play? Various mods are known to cause missions to take an inordinate amount of time to initialise and thereby sometimes prevent the init statements to be executed properly. In that case playing with Vanilla and just the islands should avoid problems

Mined Trick

Works as expected in a test. Only when both the UAZ and truck are at the indicated position do the messages appear.

Regards,

Sander

The medic on co06_baf_mined_trick.abel.pbo cannot provide first aid. If first aid is attempted by the medic, the treatment animation will play until the death of the patient. The medic can heal wounded units (that were first aided by another unit). This has repeated itself several times both on the CiA and the Zeus server.

Great mission though! Thanks a lot for it and for this pack.

For Covered Way, I very strongly recommend adding the British L1A1 SLR (IWS) night scope to initial loadout selection. The mission starts at night, and none of the weapons available have scopes that work with NVG, meaning that weapons with iron sights are the only ones useable until the sun comes up. The L1A1 would make the first Taking the Hill objective about 100 times more fun, especially in SP.

But it's funny how the AI have no problem using the scopes with NVG. It's just impossible for humans. :-(

Some other CWR2 missions ported from OFP that are about to come out include this weapon...

The backup sights (eg red dot on the ACOG) are night sight compatible and the IR also aids in aiming in low light conditions with NVG.

Sander

The laser sure helps, but is hard to aim with accurately over medium to long distances. What red dot backup sight for the ACOG are you referring to, and how do I enable it?

Various weapons in Operation Arrowhead and in the DLC packages come equipped with two sight modes, which can be changed using Numpad / by default. On the ACOG equipped L85/L86 weapons this allows the player to alternate between the magnifying scope and an ancillary red dot sight mounted on top of the main scope. The latter is suited for close range combat and compatible with NVG. BAF - Covered Way forces players who have been pampered with scopes allowing easy kills at a distance to close in for combat by design.

Sander

Got it. That ancillary sight is something I very, very rarely use in A2, that's for sure! I'm used to the Arma 3 CTRL+right click, though. I finished the excruciating, hellish Covered Way on Veteran in SP several months ago, and had chosen the L7A2 light MG with iron sights at the outset.

ab8e12298347170.jpg

I remember switching to the very nice Vintorez, usable with NVG, after pinching it from a dead Spetsnaz marksman on the Hill of Death.

Any commander who would send his troops to take that hill by night without a nice IWS night scope should be court-martialed! Giving the player a night scoped weapon as a choice at outset is best, as he/she can then choose to be psychotic and enter with crappy red dot + laser depending on their mood or skill. The scope on the L1A1 SLR (IWS) does not have high magnification, but is a sensible tool for night fighting.
