Thread: Video memory

    Video memory

    Halp! I can only select Low texture quality and Low video memory. The game looks like a total piece of shit and textures and UI elements flicker annoyingly, performance isn't stellar either. What's wrong?

    I tried playing with different -maxmem and -maxvram parameters, -winxp, deleting cfg files, rebooting etc to little avail.

    Specs: Win7 64b, Core i7 950 3.07GHz, 12GB ram, GTX580 3GB, Nvidia driver 301.42, no OC. Steam version of game.

    Same here.
    The low res textures are so fun spoiling.
    Hope they get it amangaed asap.
    As it is I just dont want to play it.

    please post your IF.cfg. -maxVRAM should do the trick in your cases I think
    please post the command line you tried

    I tried values 800, 2000 and 3000. With some settings I would see Normal available but textures still looked super low res in many places.

    IF.cfg:

    Thx for the hint, I also tried each possible and senseful setting with maxmen I knew from firrst ArmA2 times.

    Code:
    language="German";
    adapter=-1;
    3D_Performance=93750;
    Resolution_Bpp=32;
    Resolution_W=1920;
    Resolution_H=1080;
    refresh=60;
    winX=16;
    winY=32;

    I have this problem also (with Arma2 too) since upgrading memory. I had 4Gb RAM and everything was perfectly fine, now I have 16Gb and textures/UI started to flicker in arma. I made extensive memory tests (memtest, s&m) and this is not memory related problem. I bought Iron Front and now have same problem. All other games and software works fine. I've tried everything possible to fix, but still no result, apparently it's engine bug. Currently experimenting with different mallocs in arma.

    Specs: win7 64, i5 750, radeon 4870

    Here is a summary of Dwarden about the problem:

    There is problem, especially on Vista and Seven 64bit OS with more than 4GB memory
    and 1GB or more VRAM where OS will report less video memory than real value is
    (32bit OSes might suffer from variant of this too)

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2026022/en-us?p=1

    On a system with 1GB of video memory, the following values are returned with the associated system memory:

    System Memory | Reported Approximate Total Memory
    4GB | 3496MB
    6GB | 454MB
    8GB | 1259MB

    Lots of discussion e.g. here including some not nice 3rd party workarounds (patching files etc):

    Hm it seems the maxVRAM setting does not work (currently/in IF/for some).

    Can you try different video memory settings please? Worst case you can try to remove RAM sticks to get below,
    or try the patching of files.

    In addition you may want to disable AToC and use PPAA:

    Here is my iron front video:

    I've forced textures to "High" in config. The higher video memory/texture setting, the more severe is this problem.

    Pulverizer, do you have the same flickering?

    Tried maxVRAM with arma - doesn't help.

    Tried, the higher - the bigger the problem.

    Yeah I get that same flicker, the sun can make the whole sky flash (epilepsy warning).

    @pvpscene, I will try those fixes next weekend.
