    Combat Heli Help

How do I combat heli properly in CTI warfare? I'm talking about the Apache AH1 mainly. Every time I fly even close to a base, I get blown to pieces or shot down. How do I get close enough to the town without getting taken down? How low do I have to fly to avoid enemy radar? And also how do I launch an attack on them successfully? I'm usually just trying to target them and they take me down instantly. Just give me all the advice and tips you can please.

Study the attack chopper strategy that usually helps.

    in case your hopeless
    1. Hide behind hills, pop up and attack n hide again. Relocate to other hill.
    2. Fly low, fire all your arsenal at base and make a sharp turn with flares covering your tracks.
    3. Get a player gunner and you will increase it's effectiveness 100%
    4. Never hover on plain view, always keep moving and hide behind hills. Hovering means you're a sitting target and any inf with an AA or even MG have a chance to shot you down.
    5. Have a friendly on the ground to relay target information via laser designator or just guide your shots.
    6. Use range to your advantage, if you can see the enemy clearly without using the chopper optics that means you're doing it wrong.
    7. If there's a tunguska around, just hide your chopper. Go on foot and blow it up 1st. Tunguska means a no fly zone unless you can go really high.
    8. Or just use the chopper to support your friendly ground units.
    9. Forget airwolf or top gun, those are just hollywood lies XD

I find the greatest asset the helicopter has in ArmA is the range of its weapons. Stay out of range of enemy anti aircraft weapons and the rest of this masking and unmasking business becomes rather moot.

Fly in, find targets, fly away, fly back in, lock the most threatening target, fire, fly away. Once all of the threatening things are destroyed at max range you can start worrying about getting close enough for rocket or gun strikes. If there is still threatening AA targets after your missiles are depleted, it's time to rearm and let the infantry shake things up for a while. If you're flying in support of some guys on the ground and the guys on the ground aren't telling you if there are tunguskas on the round, it's the same deal. Hit the most threatening units from max range and then get a sitrep from whoever can see what's going on down there.

Chopper optics? Can you clarify what that is and how I use them? I fly in third person.

I think he means the view through the gunner turrets on attack helicopters.
