    CTI Questions

    Alright so I'm having troubles in CTI warfare multiplayer. I think I know somewhat of the basic squad command so I try to achieve a crew of 5 usually. However I run into so many problems that I just feel like not playing.

    Sometimes I find that when I'm driving to the place I'm capturing I get blown up randomly without being near any enemy bases. I remember one message saying "intercontinental ballistic missile incoming". How do I prevent this?

    I also find my squad mates dying very quickly. I tell them to go in danger status but they still die off.

    Also how should I blow up an armored vehicle properly? I told one of my anti-tank rifleman to go solo and blow it up but he ended up dying. What should I have done? Also I have selected the tank through the target menu since I didn't see it nor did I want to get shot.


    Please give me more advice to keep my squad alive and more successful. Also any links to succeeding as a squad would be great too.

    And the thing that frustrates me the most about this game is when I drive somewhere for 10 minutes, and I end up dying instantly from something unknown and that stays unknown. The combat and everything is great, but I hate wasting 10 minutes driving on roads constantly because I keep dying and I keep trying to get to the same town.

    Also there doesn't seem to be any detailed guides on CTI. For instance, how do I create a spawn point for myself? And is it possible to buy units at these spawn points so I don't have to CoD my way through.

    "intercontinental ballistic missile incoming". How do I prevent this?

    - Pack up your mhq, sell all building and drive the mhq as fast as you can away from the present location. The enemy have bought a nuclear missile because they have too much money and supply. If you want to prevent that, cut off their supply or sabotage their base.

    Driving vehicles - anyone can see incoming vehicles from far away, even enemy AI. When driving hides between valleys or forests and go on foot when you're approaching enemy towns. 600m should be good if you dont have hard cover.

    Spawnpoint - Buy an ambulance, you can spawn on it if you are within range depending on your ambulance upgrade.

    AI - buy them at captured town center, be an engineer so you can repair enemy vehicles and use it.

    Controlling AI - This is not medieval war where you charge to a MG pointing at you. Use common sense, hide and snipe or take out priority enemy units that will wipe out your squad. Enemy tanks, armored vehicles with MG, snipers, Team leaders, artillery and etc. Recon the area, know your enemy and use ambush. When using AI the command "Hold your fire" is really valuable.

    CTI is a coop pvp gameplay, group together with other players and you will capture towns easier. Play as a team, a lone rambo wont really get you anywhere. Dont commit your AI when there's an armored MG around. Use mods like Zeus or others to enhance your AI capability.

    Also when I was assaulting a town, it took a very long time because I was coming in from lower ground (trying to get to a top of a hill). When I sent a rifleman over somewhere he just got devoured so I was unsure whether I should've done something different. I didn't have a spawn point close by so that's why I didn't lead in. Should top ground be a priority all the time? Should I scout around the town first until I see the enemies clearly? Also I notice that whenever my team is in the open and not in prone, they just get raped by bullets. I also notice that the AI don't use their grenades, is that normal? What are useful units to have in your squad for invading a town? How should you advance your units?

    I advanced my units by having the 1 machine gunner and 1 sniper, that are beside eachother, cover while the rifleman advance headwards. Then had the machine gunner go, then the sniper, then me and the last units. Is this good?

    Should I have a sniper rifle instead of an automatic-capable rifle?

    Please give me any more tips or advice on commanding AI. Such as if I use 3-9(suppressive fire) do they just suppressive fire whatever they see? And the AI don't seem to use trees for cover in open areas when in danger mode, should i tell them to hide with 1-8(look for cover)?

    Ah well, this gonna be a long one. But for helping an Arma fan i wont mind then.

    CTI town capture strategy

    - Town resistance will spawn when you get close at around ~600m. They will disappear when there's no enemy in that range for a few minutes (Not sure how long).
    - You can send 1 lone scout to trigger the town while you stay further away, stop the scout and let him stay there with hold fire and prone command.
    - Priority target will always be tanks/armored vehicles, so bring spare AT ammo in your car/ambulance.
    - Find hard cover and kill the tanks, relocate for the next shot because once you fire a shot the enemy roughly know your location. They will start suppression fire on your location meaning you must relocate because the enemy is starting to advance towards you.

    Notice at this stage all the action is done by you because player have faster reaction time than AI and it's not good to pit your AI to a force 3-4 time larger than your own squad. They get wiped out really fast like in real life.

    -Now after all the tanks are taken down, it's time to use your vehicles if you have mounted MG on it.
    - Drive on the hill until only your MG can see the town below while hiding your vehicle body behind the hill or any hard cover.
    - Start killing infantry AI using the vehicle MG and start telling your AI to advance. While the enemy is busy concentrating on you, you can also do a flanking maneuver if you have the manpower.
    - Having 2 fireteam that move while the other providing cover is a good tactic. Remember to choose a place that have a good line of sight tho.

    Choosing weapon for Teamleader
    1. Takistan is a good map for long range weapons while Chernarus is more for medium to short range but with a lot of cover.
    2. You can store additional ammo or weapons in your ambulance and can spawn on it if you die.
    3. To clear out infantry i always prefer MG with optics, it have lots of ammo and high rate of fire.
    4. Use sniper weapons if you have range to your advantage
    5. Use silencer if you dont want the enemy to know your location or Anti material rifle for extreme range ~1km.

    Commanding AI
    - The only AI commands that i use when playing :- Safe, Danger, Prone, Hold Fire, Follow My Stance, Watch (Direction), Stealth (For scout)
    - The other available commands is good if you are laying ambush for example look for cover, but not for when you're under fire. Going prone is the fastest way when under fire, other than that will require your AI to stand and move.
    - Btw trees are not good covers, same as building corners. Once the enemy started to fire on your location, dont look again at that area but move and relocate. If i see you peek at corners, i would have my gun aimed at the same area waiting for you to look again, it's the same with enemy AI.

    For practice, play with the editor. Add your unit and a few enemies and see how your AI react to certain commands. Then try a different terrain or approach and different distance too. The editor is a very good tool for testing stuffs and vehicles. You can also set the enemy AI not to shoot at you so you can see how your team behaves.

    Enemy AI will have lower detection range when they are on safe stance, that is why fire discipline is really important. Sneak closer, settle down then attack. Move only when it's clear, a moving enemy will have lower accuracy than a guy that is waiting in an ambush. If you have a humvee with MG, put it on top of a hill at 600-700m and it will provide cover for your team. He will only react if he have a clear line of sight and when your group have detected the enemy. But once he start shooting, other enemy will also detect his location then it gets interesting =P

    Upgrade the Aircraft Factory??

    Hey guys,
    i also have some problems with the CTI Warfare Missions and I just can't find a solution, so:
    How do I upgrade the aircraft factory to get planes. I read that I have to upgrade it, but HOW??
    I've been looking for a solution for weeks!
    It would be nice if someone could tell me how to do this

    What version are you running? Hosting it yourself? Playing on a dedi server?
    You need to be the commander, then click on upgrades (aircraft factory).
    Depending on which you are playing? could take awhile to get the neccessary resources.
    But if hosting yourself etc ,set the param's very high for money/supply.

    1. Build an aircraft factory, you'll have a few chopper to buy
    2. Upgrade AF using the commander upgrade menu, vote yourself commander if not.
    3. Some mission need to be ran on dedicated server if you're hosting, normal MP hosting will cause some of the function to not work properly. Goto arma 2 folder, run arma2oaserver.exe. Goto MP and select local instead of internet and you'll see a server with your PC name. Join it, vote admin and set the parameter.Dont put too many AI or it will kill your PC.

    Thanks a lot for your answers!
    I play it with only one friend, all the others are AI! There is no arma2oaserver.exe in my Arma2 OA Folder!? I bought it on steam, so the arma2 folder is at Steam/steamapps/common, maybe it has something to do with that!?
    And how do I know that I have enough resources or where can I see how much resources I have??
    And were do I find the upgrade menu, when I scroll down, there's only "buy units", "buy weapons" and "construction"?(sorry, but I bought arma 2 OA a few days ago, so I am a real newbie )

    Ah, I found out how to download the Dedicated Server on Steam: at the Tools section!
    But that doesn't really help...

    Actually, the server is only 1 exe file. To run it is pretty simple just double click on it and you will see a console pop up. Maybe for steam you need to look under the steam thread in this forum or just use the search function on the forum for the location of the server exe file.

    Dedicated server binary (~8MB) is now available to all owners of ARMA 2 on STEAM.
    It's located in TOOLS section of STEAM client.
    File location same as rest of ARMA 2 game files.
    To start it from shortcut use: steam.exe -applaunch 33905 <---i have no idea what this means, maybe other steam user can clarify

    CTI warefare is like a totally different game, you need supply and money for upgrade,building factory and buying stuffs. It is gained by capturing towns and upgrading supply on the upgrade tree. Only commander can do that, you need to vote yourself as commander to access the menu, build factories and move MHQ. If you host your own dedicated server, you can set the parameter of the game like amount of money you start with and etc but you cant save the game.

    If the AI is the current commander, It will automatically make the base and upgrade and you just need to wait until he have enough supply or money. Aircraft factory will be done last though.
