MAME Arcade & Emulators (Old games & more)

Recommended Posts

I checked this thread and was not sure anyone mentioned this so here goes.

I have been searching out emulators for ZX spectrum / Arcade / Amiga 500 mainly and found some good sites.

First of all MAME works out of install with many arcade roms for all old classic cabinet arcade machines:

MAME (arcade) can be downloaded here:

http://mamedev.org/updates.html

Games for install "Roms" (you place them in the "Roms" folder and let the software validate them)

http://www.freeroms.com/mame.htm

NOTE: All other emulators (MAME runs out of install no problem) require bios or kickstart (amiga) files for them to boot, that is a legal issue and there are many sites that you can download kickstart amiga boots & zx spectrum bios from that are payment, clearly that is in the realms of legal etc so its up to you to google as you wish, Im not endorsing non payment download here, everything I have I have payed for. If moderators feel this is dodgy ground then feel free to remove, although all sites linked only supply the emulator and games, bios & kickstart files are not supplied.

Amiga (winaeu) can be found here: (click alphabet)

Games:

ZX Spectrum

Having some fun playing Way Of The exploding Fist, Lesuire Suit Larry, Outrun, and simply laughing at some of the games I loved in my school days.

Great stuff, thanks for posting :) I actually still have my old Amiga 1200 and Spectrum 48k, plus whole boxes of games for them... strange, the games I miss the most are the Spectrum ones :D

I have been playing "School dayz" & "Back to skool" for the spectrum, frame rates are real bad, but its still fun to play, also "Ping Pong" was a massive favourite. Also a game I cant stop playing for the Amiga emulator is "Nuclear War" & "North & South" ... turn based games, I was hooked on them back then at school, still fun and not boring now, "Rocket Ranger" (I had the game & the poster!) and most important for addiction was micro machines top down driving, and "Kickoff / Kickoff2" & "Speedball/Speedball2".

Psygnosis / Cinemaware / Ocean / Gremlin Graphics ... aah, the names. Plus on zx spectrum & amiga they have all the demo's that came out on the demo scene, I used to mail order them with "postal orders" back in the day :)

Also MAME, the first thing I downloaded was "Elevator Action" ... man I used to be on holiday with parents, would ask my dad "can I have 10p!" every 5 minutes so I could go back on and play it, still addictive all this time. Then you have space invaders/pacman ... beat em ups .... great.

Still have to stress that ROMS & Kikstart files are legal issue, and to get those there are sites to purchase, although I wont link anything due to any issue in this forum.

For MAME arcade this website is a boon for the ROM games community as it is something that everyone was looking for. Anyone who is into classic and retro games needs no introduction to this website as you are probably using it by now.
