Note the phrase "tiny_trolling" in the URL of the images. Shame on you, BIS, for toying with our emotions like that... It's like dangling a roasted chicken in front of a starving person but only letting him have a lick. ;)

Dev blogs... the technical stuff is very interesting. However I don't know if it will appeal as much to the "wider audience" which is what you guys seem to be going for this time (which is a good thing btw).

I like reading interviews and articles made by the community. When developers take the time to talk to their audience and the people that pay to play their games, its often much more interesting questions/answers and it seems more real than a "official" statement that advertise on their own website. One superb thing about BIS is that it often feels more personal than other game-companies, a good example is when Spanel talked about the last 10 years at Bohemia. Great article!! Even better when there are interviews, Q&A and articles made by the community example at Armaholic, and other sites covering ArmA series and BIS games. That way the information the studio want to convey actually slips under the radar because it is regarded as another player telling you how great this game is, and not the company that makes it (and want to sell it) telling you how great it is. Imagine Spanel giving the same message through foxhound or armaholic. For me it makes it better somehow.

With that said its ofc very important promoting a game through official channels to make sure the information acutually reach its target. I votet for other because i like the "realness" and authentic feel of a game studio that supports its players :)

What awesome news?

I think he means the gist of the overall thread -that being the news that we are soon to receive more and better news. Where that newer news takes us....god only knows. The best news perhaps?

I voted "developer blog" since, being a software developer myself, I prefer to hear things directly from the devs.

However, whatever you chose to do, BIS, I'd like to ask you to consider making it a regular thing. Once a week would be great, once a month would be fine too. It should however be a constant and consistent source of news, something to look forward to ("Oh, it's almost ARMA Friday again!").

Just my two cents :)

I dunno, I'm kinda torn. Especially now that it's not coming out till the end of the year I might prefer silence then suddenly "Hey, it's available now!" rather than weekly glimpses of what I can't play for basically an entire year. heh

Every 3rd week one devblog.

Every month collection Community Q&As.

After A3 release:

Every week something like a editing/scripting episode until basic and advanced topics are done.

Btw why did you stop making those editing tutorials? Some more people might have been lured into editing/scripting....

Just thinking. Plan this well BI, especially if you do podcasts or something. Things like that run into the ground quickly, unless everything´s set up straight from the start. Example is the dead Tutorials for OFP RR, which didn´t even get past one video.

Not to compare you with codies, but I´d rather have you do a little less, but really good.

Inception maybe? Let's pray it isn't the case.

I voted dev blogs, those where really indepth and informative.

Otherwhise go the Wolfire route and post a video update every monday! :o :D

Overgrowth youtube video

Once I saw the quality of the animations and realized that these guys give weekly video updates-- I prepurchased immediately. See Bohemia? THAT is what I want. If an indie developer can spare 2 Minutes weekly, so can you. Infinite proof of quality. Consumer feels involved in the process and gains insight into your mindset and what you wish to accomplish.

Now to see what kind of game Overgrowth is. Crossing fingers its not a rabbit dating-sim.

Hehe, I did the same :)

Sadly I don't like the game as much but enjoy as a mild curiousity of new animations and seeing how things work behind the scenes rather. Weekly would be a bit much for BI but we're definitely starved for some updates/feature upgrades etc...

We've updated the OP to close the poll and thank you for your input!

----------

Plan this well BI [...] Things like that run into the ground quickly, unless everything´s set up straight from the start.

Do something with nifty videos. Do some world building, think movie trailers. I don´t want to learn about the dry facts of how many vehicles, this and that type of weapon, I want to get involved in the world and get a feel for the story.

Consistency is key, but a spicy little sound bite or two from our Lord on High-horse can be a good way to get some personality across, I hope.

As for your second point, we want a nice balanced range of information out there. We can't wait to share new info about the recent changes and evolutions that the campaign has Taken Onâ„¢; yet, at the same time, we know that others will be violently sick at the thought of such splendid nonsense taking the place of useful information about weapons and vehicle performance. Not to mention the number of rivets. :)

Arma is a broad church, we need to satisfy all of our congregation, not to mention our potential new converts!

Btw why did you stop making those editing tutorials? Some more people might have been lured into editing/scripting...

The goal of those tutorials was to give a solid basis and point of reference for starting with the editor. They're also quite cool for marketing, giving a nice polished sense of what you, the player-creator, can achieve. They take some thought and effort to turn around, so for both

and Take On we've stuck with only two guides. It's certainly something to consider for kicking off editing in A3.
I voted "developer blog" since, being a software developer myself, I prefer to hear things directly from the devs.
Also, isn't the "Report In!" and developer blog essentially the same thing?

They're different ways of presenting similar information. Devblogs are a little more detailed but, in that sense, also a bit less 'consumable' to the average gamer, who may be more used to the shorter, snappier format of our Report In! feature. Both have their advantages, and we'll be relying on both to communicate our news.

PLUS, i think some behind the screens info/pics would be cool as well, via twitter or facebook.

All of the ways of presenting info will no doubt rely upon screens and videos to help make their point more clearly, or more effectively to the broadest possible number of people. I'd expect that when we're collecting materials for such features, that they may find a way of leaking out the side en route to deployment. ;)

Ok, that's quite enough from us for now.

Best,

RiE

Sounds good!

Only that "soon" in the OP... Hmmm... How about a "NOW"?

And...

Ok, that's quite enough from us for now.

Ok, but honestly you didn't tell us that much!! ;)

There's a saying that screenshots say more than thousand words... :)

Anyway, thanks for taking your time to answer and inform us!

EDIT:

Btw., can a specialist analyse every pixel and links / picture(s) of RiE's post? Since in the meanwhile we should know that he likes to play Seek & Destroy, ähm, I mean Hide & Seek games.

I read his "reason for edit" posted a few up and come to the conclusion this is most likely him.

They all thirst for it.

It is gold.

Moravian gold.

And on this picture you can see Lord Buchta in the battle of Brno leading the Bohemia Interactive Army into victory!!

You can ask, but certainly not without being scoffed at.

In fact, we're scoffing right now. :)

At the moment, we wouldn't intend to have weekly updates, but we'd hope to get some info information out next week or soonâ„¢ thereafter.

Best,

RiE
