    1.96 and 1.99

    I just got the game for 3 bucks off Steam and decided to try it out since I heard many people praise the game.
    But, Steam has it patched to 1.99 There are 3 multiplayer servers for 1.99 and dozens for 1.96
    Question is, can I just download an ISO of the 1.96 game somewhere and use the CD key I got of Steam to play multiplayer on that? Or is there some patch to downgrade the Steam version to 1.96? The multiplayer is almost dead, but there are a few people playing on 1.96 servers, but non on 1.99 servers.
