Mission Briefing Gear problems...

I cannot actually change my gear before a mission Spoiler:

I've tried multiple missions, even my own, my gear does not seem to save when i click close in the briefing , I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but I would very much like to know, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply, but I believe my question is more basic, I do not even start the mission, I select my gear in the briefing menu, click close, open up the gear screen again and I have my default gear, not the gear i selected 5 seconds ago, not sure what I'm doing wrong. This is in single player as well. I'm about 99% sure this is a user error.
