Arma 2 ancient coding bug resurfaced, From the Cold war

Recommended Posts

Well people, upgrading to 24Gb of RAM have revealed a bug that have been with you since Flashpoint 1 and it is quite a gamestopper.

Essentially the game will run OFP, Arma 1, Arma 2 but... the problems start once you are done and you exit the game.

In Windows 7 Arma 2 and Flashpoint 1 appearently sends a signal to shutdown Windows aero, since I am not running Aero it works rather nicely but has another nasty effect.

It kills dwm.exe aka Desktop Window Manager, the issue with this though is that it is used by nearly web browsers and some software and they will instantly crash upon launching and if they are launched, they will crash.

Restarting dwm.exe is also impossible as it just crashes, the only fix is a computer restart.

So now for Arma 3 and your Free Arma 2, it is time to squash this bug because it is bloody annoying.

It is also related to how you handle the graphics driver essentially, because even if you run it in a Virtual machine, it does the same thing.

The reason it can be tracked to you though is that ONLY YOUR software does this, anything else, even more graphically and CPU intensive does not provoke this bug.
