gossamersolid 155 Posted August 12, 2011 I see the message "BattlEye: Exception Caught" once in a while during gameplay. What does this exactly mean?
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted August 12, 2011 I've had three of these as well, during the last couple of months.
$able 2 Posted August 14, 2011 It happens when there is an exception during BE's execution, most likely when scanning memory that is no longer available (race condition).
gossamersolid 155 Posted August 14, 2011 race condition?
.kju 3241 Posted August 14, 2011 $able is it possible to give it a more meaningful name/error message please. With people asking, it shows clearly that there is room for improvement. Ty
gossamersolid 155 Posted August 14, 2011 Also instead of telling us ingame, how about putting it in the Client RPT? There's no point in printing out "BattlEye exception caught" ingame as: A) Nobody seems to know what it means B) There's no details to the message, making it useless
$able 2 Posted August 14, 2011 race condition? Google it. ;) $able is it possible to give it a more meaningful name/error message please. With people asking, it shows clearly that there is room for improvement. Ty There isn't a more meaningful description because it cannot clearly be said what caused it. Also instead of telling us ingame, how about putting it in the Client RPT?There's no point in printing out "BattlEye exception caught" ingame as: A) Nobody seems to know what it means B) There's no details to the message, making it useless It exists to point out potential problems when reported to me. That way I know that I will have to improve certain parts of the code to prevent this message from appearing at all.
gossamersolid 155 Posted August 14, 2011 It exists to point out potential problems when reported to me. That way I know that I will have to improve certain parts of the code to prevent this message from appearing at all. Right, but I think it belongs more in the RPT (where all other errors go) rather than in a global chat looking text.
.kju 3241 Posted August 14, 2011 How about "A problem occurred during the BattlEye check" or "A BattlEye check could not be completed".
$able 2 Posted August 14, 2011 Right, but I think it belongs more in the RPT (where all other errors go) rather than in a global chat looking text. Then most people would never notice and report it.
gossamersolid 155 Posted August 14, 2011 Then most people would never notice and report it. Even if somebody does report it right now, how do you know exactly what caused it? Plus how many people have reported it? Nobody on these forums seemed to know what it meant.
.kju 3241 Posted August 14, 2011 Well my vote would server and client rpt+server console+global chat.
$able 2 Posted August 14, 2011 Even if somebody does report it right now, how do you know exactly what caused it? I know certain parts that could cause problems in rare cases. Anyway, I will try to fix this problem for you, so you are no longer annoyed by it. :)

I don't think BI guys are really that slow. You gotta remember that Suma is probably working on about 4 projects including OA/CO right now. - TKoH - CC - A3 Since his title is Lead Programmer I assume he has his mitts involved in all (well maybe not CC, not sure on that one).
