I am not a pilot, so I may be wrong here and if so please correct me. I believe Torque-Induced Yaw is being simulated incorrectly. The way I understand it this effect should be tied to the throttle not the collective. The more throttle there is the faster the blades spin, which would cause right yaw and require left pedal to counter it. Changing the angle of the blades, which is what collective does, should not cause this.

Currently it seems this effect is tied to the collective. Also, my craft does not yaw to the right, it rolls or banks to the right.

The throttle in most helicopters and all turbine helicopters is linked to a governor that attempts to keep the Rotor RPM at 100%. When you increase collective, drag on the main rotor system also increases, which should slow down the rotor RPM if it weren't for the governor. It's important to understand that in flight, rotor RPM changes very little, lift is primarily controlled by collectively changing the pitch of the blades, not the RPM of the rotors. So except for situations such as a governor failure or autorotation, collective changes will cause the aircraft to yaw.

    Thanks, nice explination.

@LeftSkidLow, Thanks! That was a good explanation. So there should be some Torque-Induced Yaw when using the collective, but that doesn't explain why my craft rolls to the right. Any thoughts?

Just would like to say thanks to BIS for being such a great developer -- I can't think of any other game studio that gives out a free toy like the MD-500 for us to play with like this.

I crashed a whole hell of a lot but I'm only a good pilot in ArmA, so...

It's the retreating side of the rotor blades. If you're in forward flight and you change the collective, it changes the amount of lift being generated on the left side, where the blades are moving into the direction of movement, and the right side, where the blades speed is effectively reduced by whatever the speed of the chopper is. This imbalance of lift will roll the chopper to the right side, given clockwise rotation of the rotors. Now if it's happening while in a hover, I have no idea.

Anyone tried this with keyboard and mouse? I found it rather hard and pretty annoying The helicopter seems to live its own life, and mouse input doesnt do much even with maxed out senstivity? I mean as soon i take off and only press Q the helicopters starts to rotation in all different directions basically. I thought the easiest settings would be like Arma2 but its not even close :P
I had exactly same problem flying helicopter in FsX, i skipped it totally, and just enjoyed flying planes which is alot easier even on full realistic settings. Is helicopters just alot harder and annoying to fly then planes in real life too or whats going on? Maybe you need proper controlls to enjoy or?

You should first try to fly with "Auto Trim" enabled. This means you don't have to constantly adjust your trim, which gives you more time to concentrate on other things, particularly while you're learning.

Also be sure to start on the easiest difficulty mode. That'll automatically disable things like wind-effect on the FM.

I'm sure the other guys here can get you flying though!

Arma 3 is a combined arms military game with an infantry focus. Built upon appropriate, useful and engaging elements of simulation, it's an accessible platform for a variety of official and community playable/sandbox content, based on the principles of authenticity, diversity and opportunity.

Tried yesterday recruit and it was alot better and more fun. I probably used regular setting before. With recruit alot easier and it feels like Arma2.

    Lightbulb

    I use mouse and keyboard.
I started using Autotrim and learned how the flight model works.
However, I've since learned that Autotrim takes away about half the capability/sensitivity of the rudder control. I am much more effective with Autotrim disabled and the shackles off.
    Spoiler:

Once you learn to compensate for the aggressive torque that causes the chopper to tilt back and to the right, you can use that effect to your advantage, ie; circle strafing
