    Problems with Radio volume

    Hello ARMA2 Community !
After the 1.59 patch, it seems like the radio volume (in radio i mean when the AI speaks. either through radio communications or normal speech) has gone way down. i can barely hear what the AI says. It happens most of the time, except for some that I CAN actually hear. for example, in the Eagle Wing Campaign, I cant hear the HQ (Sierra) when it speaks, it sounds almost like static, and the man that speaks is barely audible. I can hear the two pilots for a change.
It happens in all the campaigns, missions, and even in the editor, when i try out what I created.
I tried to lower all other volumes and increase the Radio volume, yet it does nothing at all.
I tried also to disable any modfolder, which in my case were ACE and its other stuff, and Blastcore. But it seems like those were not the problem. as even with no mods on at all, I can't hear what the AI says.
I also checked that windows doesn't lower the game sound. it doesn't.
I must also mention that other sounds are OK just as before the patch.
It drives me mad, please help me.

If it helps, here are my system specs:
    Intel Core2Duo E8400 3.00Ghz
    Gigabyte G31M-ES2L Motherboard
    Gigabyte GTX 250
    1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD
    4GB DDR2 800 RAM
    Windows 7 build 7600 SP1

If it sounds like static are you sure your not using a mod or there's a mod left running? Do you use the "addons" section in-game, make sure that is empty becuase static sounds like JSRS soundmod or a mod that adds noise to radio.

Temporarily change to a new profile/create one ... does it then work? If that does then you know the profile you use is still loading a mod.

Other than that have you simply selected default button in sounds section?

Hello and thanks for the reply!
I have tried some of the things you said.
first, I am using modfolders only. nothing is in the addons folders, I double checked.
I checked the command line to make sure absolutely no mods are on, and non are. I also tried a new profile and to press the default button in the sound options, yet the problem remains.
Anything else possible to try? (I purchased Combined ops through steam, along with the BAF and PMC DLC's, i tried using the verify integrity of game files, to make sure that there are no missing/corrupted files, but nothing was found)
Also, I do not hear static. you can somewhat hear what the AI says, but it sounds so low, that it almost sound like static. the problem is that some voices are crystal clear and other aren't. for example, in the Eagle Wing campaign, I can hear the pilot Ed very good, loud and clear, yet the gunner Tim and the HQ sound almost like static. this is not just on this campaign, but on others as well.)

Whats the sound card you are using? Unless I missed it I didn't see anything listed?

Have your tried defaulting and then upping the amount of channels in audio settings (or lowering), you can go very high, have you tried 16 upwards to see if that works for you? Try each one by one and test it.

BTW I dont and have not used steam install so patching via steam and anything steam related I cant help with im afraid (although seems odd that would be some issue with it though). When you say you patched what way did you do it, via steam (although I assumed steam was not running with 1.09 yet) or did you patch steam install with download patch?

If some sounds are clear and some not, it is odd because all those audio files are being sent through that same level so maybe its a corrupted patched install for audio? Hard to say. Do you have a dedicated card or on-board card? Do you have a way of maybe using a dedicated to test it other than on-board or visa versa? Are you making sure there is no 5.1/7.1 surround settings on for your card?

I am using an on-board sound card. i believe it's a realtek one.
I tried changing the amount of channels, nothing interesting happened though.
now, just to clarify, in Steam there's an option to verify the integrity of the game files, that means that Steam checks the currently installed files with the ones that are supposed to be installed (I believe it compares the source files size to the ones on my computer to make sure they are not corrupted. But that again might be compared in size, so files might still be corrupted, but of the same size, so steam might not actually detect it.)
Anyways, Before i delete the game and re-download it on steam, I must ask again if there is anything else to try.
also, i checked, and I'm not on 5.1/7.1 mode.

Before reinstall I would have a search through these here forums under troubleshooting and general and even google for key words for Realtek and arma2 etc and see if anything else is reported just in case its been mentioned before.

Could be an actual realteak 1.09 patch issue (guessing) or also might be a simple driver update maybe? Have you checked your mobo manufacturer website for latest audio drivers?

I know you mentioned pre patch it was ok so thats another stab in the dark, but last thing to do is complete reinstall only to patch back to 1.09 and fins the same, so bleed that dry first and then do an "all else fails" reinstall.

Other than that I cant think of anything else.

Try updating DirectX 9 & 10 and then run dxdiag, maybe it will tell you if an issue is there.

Well I tried a couple of things, I Updated my DirectX 9 and 10, I also tried a possible solution that was brought here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthrea...ighlight=audio
But, none of those managed to help me. I guess Ill try to reinstall. If this won't help, I guess Ill have to play the game like this... well, until the next patch which I hope will fix it for me.

kernel debugger session can reveal cause exactly[inst of guessing wtf with sound routing], but easier was to rollback backup/system restore

    p.s.
some commercially-available malware had sound spying option[with similar artefacts on some codecs]

    p.p.s.
good to hear that Windows 8 promised to have hard reset option and "soft reinstal" variation of it.
and end-user had no need to learn about partition imaging/backing up or sysprep/WDK&etc.
