Recommended Posts

we released utility to resolve the problem with installing DLCs from ARMA 2: Reinforcements DVD

Dwarden, this link simply takes us to http://www.bistudio.com/

Same with all the links to www.arma2.com that I have tried.

It only does that if you've previously not correctly completed the 'what is your date of birth' question at the front of the bistudio website.

Does this fix the "Runtime error" when trying to install BAF or PMC expansions?

I tried to reinstall them after upgrading to Win 8.1 and no matter what I tried, I always get the runtime error message.

- Installed all visual C++ runtime libraries (x86 + x64)

- Disabled antivirus

- Uninstalled antivirus

- Tried to run the setup in Vista compatibility mode and as administrator

No chance to install these two expansions at all :(

I recently got a new laptop that came with Windows 8. I only got around to trying to reinstall all the Arma 1 / 2 games and ran into a problem with BAF - the BAF installer crashes on Windows 8.1:

---------------------------
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
---------------------------
Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Users\<username removed>\AppData\Local\Temp\BAF\setup.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install Arma 2 1.02 (Direct2Drive version)

2. Patch Arma 2 all the way to 1.07

3. Install A2:OA (Sprocket)

4. Install A2:OA 1.54

5. Install A2:OA BAF (Sprocket, BAFsetup.exe)

The installer starts up, asks for email address and serial number and then it crashes. Subsequent starts just display the splash screen for a short while and then the installer crashes.

Note: this is a double-post; I also posted this problem in

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?167534-BAF-setup-crashes-on-Windows-8-1

because this thread didn't receive a reply in over a week - I decided to post a new thread to make the issue more apparent.

The above utility doesn't work as it is intended for the DVD version of A2:CO. My Arma 2 is from Direct2Drive.com and A2:OA is from Sprocket. BAF / PMC are also from Sprocket.

*Edit*: I got a PM that pointed me to this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?131764-Arma-2-on-Windows-8/page5

I followed the steps in the thread to set "Run as Admin" for the installer .exe-s but it didn't work - I still get the same crash. I also tried to just simply copy the BAF folder from C:\Users\<username removed>\AppData\Local\Temp\BAF to the game - the BAF extension shows up in the game's main screen but I get an error during game load:

---------------------------
ArmA 2 OA
---------------------------
Failed to load file "BAF\addons\air_d_baf.pbo" - decryption of headers failed.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Is there any solution to this issue?

System info:

Windows 8.1 64-bit

32 GB RAM

Intel Core I7-4700HQ CPU

NVidia GeForce GTX 765M

I haven't tried installing VC++ redistributables yet since the game runs and I also have VS2008, VS2010 and VS2012 installed, along with a number of other programs.

PS: it's strange that I ran into this problem with BAF - I went through the installation of Arma 1 and - although I ran into some minor installer problems - the game installed and runs better than ever before.

is it so hard to read? the utility is for ARMA 2: Reinforcements DVD ...

also your problem is likely related to archaic versions of both games ... update them first

Dwarden, I'm not sure if your reply was to my post but I did actually double post (since this thread didn't get a reply for a week to IcyDennis' post). My other post has a lot more detail here:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?167534-BAF-setup-crashes-on-Windows-8-1

I tried the above utility as a last resort since the BAFinstaller simply crashes now. Contrary to your suggestion, it has nothing to do with the game's version since I installed the games and all patches the same way how I always did (the OS is different this time, of course). This is the first time I've seen these installers fail. (ArmA 2 and ArmA 2:OA both run and show the right version.) It's BAFsetup.exe (and setup.exe in the package) that fails, not the game.

I'm still looking for a meaningful reply to this problem so if you have anything useful to add, please do so. (Preferably in the other thread so that others can find it more easily - I did some searching before I posted in this thread and didn't find much useful information.)

Yes, I tried that, along with 'Run as Administrator' - same result. This is what I get in the event log:

I also have the crash dump - it's 24 MB-s compressed with 7zip if you need it.

Do you happen to know of anyone who successfully installed BAF on Windows 8.1? I'm asking because there're at least 2 known cases of this same problem. I'll try installing the VC++ redistributables but as I wrote in my other thread, I have all versions of Visual Studio beginning with VS 2008 (and VC++ is installed with all of them).

Note: I updated my earlier post in this thread with all the details of the problem.

ok, i just checked , the reason why your sprocket BAF fails is the installer ...

my suggestion is to login to our BI store and re-download BAF with new installer which works under Windows 8.1

Dwarden,

Thank you - the new installer solved the problem. I had no idea there was a new installer out for BAF/PMC - I only got this machine (and Win 8) a month ago.

I recently bought 3 copies of ARMA II Complete from the BI store. The first copy works fine, however when either I or my other son tries to run our copies we get decryption errors for PMC. Would this utility solve the problem?

Hi everyone,

I bought the Reinforcements DVD some years ago...Windows Vista timeframe I believe, I don't exactly remember.

I have a new computer with Windows 8.1 and I installed Arma 2, Arma 2 OA from disk with no issues and Army of the Czech Republic, which I bought from the BI store, with no issues.

Everything installed on Steam fine.

When I tried to install the "Reinforcements" DVD I only got the "Lite" versions showing on my P.C.!

No full version when launched from Steam.

After I snooped around here for a bit, I found a BI developer actually saying that a new installer was available (which was only available via the BI Store Steam downloads) that made the PMC & BAF compatible with Windows 8.1

I asked BI Tech support to tell customers with Windows 8.1 to not buy the Reinforcements DVD disk, so far I see no communication along those lines.

I rebought the 2 DLC's from the BI Store which are Steam downloads and now both show regular full copies.

So, Do NOT buy the disc version of "Reinforcements" but stick with the Steam version.

After sending many emails to BI's tech support, I got no credit from BI for rebuying the 2 DLC's, even after giving them my serial ID key for the Reinforcements DVD showing them that I legitimately bought it.

They didn't care.

BI tech support is still emailing me and I've gotten no resolution other than "We don't give refunds" and "Go back to the retailer that sold it to you."

What's going with that? "Don't give refunds?" "Go back to the retailer"........Right.

You've been warned!

this thread is obsolete and no longer relevant, STEAM is the only install route for anything A2: OA and A3 related
