    PROGETTO FLOTTA (Navy Project) - PedagneMOD

    Hi, below, you can find WIP images (not textures yet) of all 3D models of the “Progetto Flotta” (Navy Project) spin-off of the PedagneMOD.
    You will see 3D models about Italian Navy (MMI – Marina Militare Italiana) and about a fictitious “enemy” Navy, that i have called “Red Star”. The hulls of Red Star fleet are taken from their of Italian Navy. I changed some polygons and applied weapons and TLC systems of east europe.
    The models that you will see in the next 245 photos, are yet not textured (not for a long time). I will speak, for every ship class, about the model for ARMA2 and not about the real unit. You can find info about real units in many web sites (i.e. http://digilander.libero.it/en_mezzi...ml#englishpage)
    Generally, the small units will be dinamic and the large units will be static platform. For every units will be possible to use the service boats for the link with the land. Naturally, it is possible to land with Heli in the units that have the hangar …and we don’t speak about carriers and LPD! In the large units you will find a briefing room or a briefing-space in the hangar. Many parts, every time is possible, will be walkable. Only the Service boats have inside dashboard command, other ships not. Big work for a bit playability in ARMA2.
    All the large units have over than 20.000 vertex (the carrier CAVOUR have 100.000). So I will divide the model into a sections of each 15.000 vertex.
    Every class will be at play menu with all units with different number, name and motto (many time in Latin, as the tradition of Italian navy.
    If you want to see this photo, not all in one time…they are 245! More than a married party!
    N.B.: All the models are “made in PedagneMOD”. Only the SSK Todaro and some of RHIB, not.

    2. SSK “TODARO” class
    Two units of german-italian U-212A, where the submarine model is made by my mate NGHENGO. I have just added the propellers and the cilinder for Special Operation, fourth image (Sciré).

    3. PHM “SPARVIERO” class
    Seven units of hydrofoil Made in Italy. This hydrofoil was discharged for the high operating costs (as a frigate). So, to justify its presence on battlefield, i also added seven fictitious units with a traditional propellers. I have called them Sparviero2000, with lower operating costs. The patrol boats of Red Star navy are based on this hull.

    4. AOHR “STROMBOLI” class
    Two supply units of the Stromboli class. This units are very near to be discharged. Here was very laborious to make the supply pipes hanging to the portal. There is also a briefing room with a romantic view on the deck.

    5.2. LPD “San Giorgio” class
    This images shows the other two amphibious assault in present configuration, after the work in 2000. The hangar is the same of San Giusto unit, with a fictitious variant of inclined ramp (real, the ramp is elevator).

    6. DEEP PATROL
    6.1. PSOH “Costellazioni” class
    Four units. In the story of the PedagneMOD will be placed in the Harbour of the capital of the Island. When “enemy” will invade the Island, this unit embark survivors of land-units and leave the Harbour in the midst of shots of invaders artillery .

    6.3. PSOH “Comandanti” class
    First units of Italian Navy with the “Stealth” configuration. They was the first ship that mounted the naval cannon 76 caliber with a “stealth” hull (Oto-Melara). This is a monster that have a fire frequency similar to an M2. With an ammunition DART, it can hit…all, ships, tanks, missiles, airplane, your mother-in-law, from 70-90km too.

    The corvettes all Made in Italy in every parts, that are “stealth” for a careful design, having a low radar tracking.

    8. FRIGATE
    8.1. FFG “Soldato” class
    Four “iraqi” frigates, Lupo class, that Fincantieri builds in 1991. After the delete of the order, after the gulf-war, the four frigates were incorporated in Italian Navy as Naval Group Patrol ships (their standard was too low, as frigate, for the Italian Navy standard). The “Bersagliere” units, is testing the new naval cannon 127 in stealth configuration. The 127 with VULCANO ammo become as middle-range missile launcher, infact launch his guided ammo to 120km. The Heli hangar is telescopic.

    8.2. FFG “Maestrale” class
    This frigate class is the pillar of the Italian Navy, but not for a long time now. Infact, four will be deeply restructured and four will be discharged.

    8.3. FFG “FREMM” class
    The new french-italian stealth frigate…I don’t know very much about it, ‘cause the info on the web are very contradictory. The news are reliable only about the builded french frigate. My reference is a static model of 2008. All the units for ARMA2 are in GP (support to land operation), ‘cause the ASW (anti-som) is not playable. Moreover in a deck under the air deck, there are two RHIB(in the real ship, only one)

    9. Destroyers
    9.1. DDG “Luigi Durand De La Penne” class
    The “new” Destroyer, born old. Infact it’s been so long time between design and constructio, that the “line design” was yet old. In any case, despite the old line design (certainly not stealth) and after the last modernization of weapons and radar and tlc system, this ship can compared with modern NATO units.

    The line stealth of this new french-italian class of destroyers is so nice that seems designed by an industrial designer.

    10. CARRIERS
    10.1. CVL “Giuseppe Garibaldi”
    The first carrier of Italian Navy (one was built during the second world war, but did not see the sea). The 3D model is walkable in all uncoverd parts, there isn’t hangar but a briefing room linked through corridors and staircases to the landing staircase.

    10.2. CVH “Cavour”
    The admiral unito f Italian Navy i salso the more articulated model. The 3D model has the hangar for vehicles and heli/airplanes. The hangar is linked with the land trough two vehicle ramp; and it’s linked with the air deck trough two elevator ramps and two staircase that link also the decks of service boats, the briefing room and the 25mm naval cannon outside, over the back hall where are placed two zodiac.

    10.3. CVH-LPD “Cavour”
    This units is fictitious and is inspired to the design n°168 of Fincantieri that involved, over the carrier configuration, also the LPD configuration. The High cost did opt has choise for the present confirmation of Cavour. There is not many information on the web about n° 168. So i designed a floodable basin near the vehicles ramp on the back. This basin is large to contains two LCM side by side. Under the airplane hangar, I have designed another hangar only for land vehicles linked through ramps to the upper hangar to the land and to the basin. Moreover is possible to cover the floodable basin to enlarge the airplane hangar surface. Other parts of the model are equal to the previous Cavour.

    When i have finished the 3D models of the Italian Navy, i thought: “now? In ARMA2, who can fights these ships now?” So i invented an “enemy” fleet that i have called Red Star. The hulls of this fleet was built with the hulls of respective units of Italian Navy. I have changed some polygons and added real weapon, radar and TLC systems of east europe.

    Preferred configuration by many small Navy, for its economy and the potential lethality of weapon systems. An example was the egyptian patrol boat that sank the israeli destroyer Eilat, directly by inside the harbour. The 3D model is derived too from the hull of Sparviero2000, and has two twin launchers for missiles surface – surface, a naval cannon AK-176 and an AA system AK-600 on the back.

    Destroyer derived from Italian Durand De La Penne class where i have added an enlarged telescopic hangar of the Soldato class. The weapon systems are: two quadruple launchers and two twin launchers of missiles surface-surface, a naval cannon AK-130, two AA missile launche (SN-3 ahead and SN-7 on back), two rocket launcheri RBU-600 and four AA systems AK-600. All remember just a bit the “Sovremenny”.

    To the hull of Cavour in LPD configuration, i addes the Island of Garibaldi. The most of hangar was not changed, but I have mixed some polygons and added big antennas in soviet style and this weapons systems: two twin launchers and one quadruple launcher of missiles surface-surface, one cannon AK-130 ahead, two naval cannon (one ahead and one on the back) AK-176, two AA missile launchers SN-3, four AA systems AK-600 and three rocket launchers RBU-600.

    Thanks to apprecciate this first images. Now the next problems to right import in ARMA2 are: divide the model in sections that have not over 15.000 vertices and glue them with a script, compatibility between moving and vertical staircase, assign a right hit /armored parameters

    Not so hard as you might think. Attachto is your friend here. Split out your weapons and other key bits into separate models and just attach them via the scripts it will reduce the poly count per entity then. This has the added benefit of making each component damagable too.

    Several people have made a moveable LHD and JDOG made an rather impressive USS Nimitz. I'd go have a chat with him.

    You can do this several ways. But the best way I've found is just to use class house for the main sections.

    Use normal roadways for the easier shallow ladders. And defined ladders for the verticals ones.

    Again you have two options.
    1. Use the new "armour" rvmats in your fire geometry lod. These set up the armour penetration values.
    2. Or use attachto again to stick on invisible armour panels around the hull etc to take the majority of the impacts.
    But probably a mixture of both would give you the best results.
