Thread: Raster?

    Raster?

I am trying to follow one of the tutorials but I kind of got stuck somewhere.

I am using I get to the part where the author -zgm- maual to help me. He shows a picture of
ASTER GDEM EXPLORER 1 and 2, but doesn't specify if i need both or to just choose either or. I have been using 2 because the link on the aster #1 to register, doesn't do anything. so i just use 2.

Now when i get to the part where he says this: "go to FILE, then EXPORT RASTER AND ELEVATION DATA and the EXPORT XYZ GRID.

Now when I click on file and scroll down, there is no EXPORT RASTER AND ELEVATION DATA.

    There is only this:
Export raster image format. And when i try to find the xyz option, it's not there.
Then above it there is this one:
Export elevation grid format. And that was has the xyz.

SO what I am supposed to do. I see people talking about Raster, and also xyz. I don't know what Raster means but what should I do?

    Thanks.

Basically Raster is just another name for Bitmap - whereas all the Elevation Data filetypes are various grid-based formats specially for heightmap-type data...

Depending on what you're doing you may have both data types overlaid in Global Mapper and you can export an elevation data file to use as a heightmap, plus a raster or bitmap file to use as a satellite image and/or mask, and when you bring them both back together again in Visitor they'll still match and overlay properly...
