Simple models replacement.

Recommended Posts

Now the mod is fully playable.

It´s all about performance.

Those who like large realistic battlefields.

And ofcourse those who like playing cti games multiplayer with full groupsize.

This mod is fully multiplayer compatible now.

It does a huge difference in youre fps, the good way.

Now i think this mod is good for Operation Flashpoint, think of all poor african and chinese who can now play with us in multiplayer.

The mod still need a lot of improvement in the models, but now just take a break and play it.

Well. You could try a file sharing service.Although the time it remains active

will be limited.Unless you have an account with them.

For a start you could try rapidshare, megaupload, sendspace or multiupload.

There's many others of course. So have a look around. You upload the file.

They provide a download link, which you post here.

Or someone may decide to host it,on a more permanent basis. If they think

the appeal is broad enough.

Can you describe what exactly it is you've replaced?

Beta 0.36

I replaced many models with simpler ones.

Like

t72

ural

jeep

bmp 1

uaz

shilka

truck

m113

eastern soldiers

weapons

Some bushes and woods.

houses, some small bugs need to be fixed.

and a lot of small things.

But as it is a 0.36 beta, there is much more to do.

Now it´s just a taste of what preformance improvment it could be when it´s done.

Would say this is just 1/3 or maybe even 1/4 of what is possible and it will look somthing like in the picture above.

It´s really just a tryout what preformance gain is possible to get, so far.

And i desided to share the experiance with others.

(Beta 0.37)

US soldiers

(beta 0.38)

New model t72

Fixed LAW now 2D

(beta 0.39)

T80 New model

T80 new textures

BMP-2 New model

Tree bugs fixed.

New tree models.

M1 Abrams new model.

Soldiers east and west new model.

Improved LOD´s on main units. (preformance gain)

On

t72

t80

soldiers both sides

Breathing

Beta 0.40

Doing right now.

Replace trees.

Forest.

Muzzle flash.

Res UAZ

Res jeep

Stones

Rocks

Bushes

Flowers

Us fuel

Us repair

Ural fuel

Ural repair

Us ambulance

Res Ambulance

Special forces east and west

t55

LOD trees

LOD grass

One picture of almost 600 units on dessert island with viewdistance set to 5000 meters with a old 2 ghz CPU.

It dont go below 17 fps.

The shilka is as good as it get.

Thats the aim of the mod.

http://img686.imageshack.us/f/flashpointresistance201.jpg/

Nukes and artillery should work really nice, Whit this it´s possible with huge dessert maps with long range anti air facilities.

map of som dessert or even snowy siberia maps will do this mod good.

And all generals would be happy, they dont like the ctf style, they want somthing serious.

They want to be able to do everything, if it´s no other option they want to be able to send the special OPS to destroy the S-300 AA witch is guarded by smaller AA, and the smalest and with the shortest range will be the shilka.

Uppdated.

Beta 0.37

http://rapidshare.com/files/433127588/Data3D.pbo

Now the US soldiers also are uppdated.:)

http://img405.imageshack.us/f/flashpointresistance201m.jpg/

This is going to get the preformance upp on both sides, and will be very notable in CTI games.

I've got a lot of experience with this kind of low poly units. I tried many ways to achieve this, with more or less success, from less than 100 vertices units such as yours to 2d units. The real performance test isn't to put static units on the map, but to make them fight and move, and sometimes, the performance isn't that better with low poly units.

With units with normal polycount, thanks to "lod" system, only units close to the player will show their "big polycount" by showing their most detailed lods. So if you create those lods carefully, the impact on the performance isn't so big, considering you're maintaining texture size/number to an acceptable level (or like me, if you create decreasing texture sizes according to the lods).

Sanctuary WW4 mod is the best example of what can be achieved performance-wise with good looking units.

I see what you mean, Sanctuary´s mod is just to good looking to me.

As usual i want to go a step or three further, exclude everything that is there for the looks of it and only leave the things that will interfere with the game.

A spec ops will need to know where the turret pointing of a tank, to sneak upp behind and place a bomb and sneak away.

So the rotating turrets i will be forced to leave...

And it is how far i will go, wheels rotating and that kind of un neccesery stuff will go away emidiatly, to save preformance, better would be if the wheels dont even exist´s as in the shilka.

The tests i did with running units are also satisfying, the other thing is fighting units.

When it comes to explotions and these kind of stuff, BIS has also left some space to improvment.

In many cases it would be possible to improve it.

I suspect explotions exist, even if you can turn them off, not sure.

However it´s a huge difference in preformance to turn them on.

And yes, 2D will be needed as well.

And im not really satisfied with the present units either, but for now they are ok.

The backpack will be removed.

As you may allready noticed, the weapons are 2D.

Imagine there is preformance to save when using only one texture on a model, instead of a grater number of different textures.

So on the lods, you can use just one texture on the whole model.

And when it comes to movement, it´s all about the animations, at least what i can understand.

And i forgot to mention, the downloads are not compressed, thats to free the power of the CPU.

Yes, animations are CPU consuming - unanimated models are FPS friendly, i made some of them to recreate a napoleonic wargame for my personal use, look here .

Moving / fighting are also a matter of AI calculations and pathfindings : for example, i'm using a lot the melee combat in my current mod, and it's more CPU unfriendly than shooting as the AI must calculate very often a way to reach its target by walking or running.

Like youre units very much:)

Just made some test on dessert island with full settings in preference and in options, exept that i allow the fps to drop to 8.

With 32 of bis normal tanks it droped and stayed at 19.

With 32 of the new edited it never went below 60 fps.

As i cant se more than 60 fps i dont know how hi it really was.

Anyway its a preformance improvment by at least 200%... In this case and with those settings.

If you have every setting on lowest in both preferences and options the difference is just 20 fps.

104 BIS tanks give you 28 fps.

104 new tanks give you 48 fps.

104 Beta 0.38 tanks improves the fps even further, sorry i cant measure it, had to reinstall te game...

But they is twice less CPU consuming than the beta 0.37 tanks.

So i imagine it would have be 60 fps on 104 tanks there.

Update to beta 0.38

Fixed LAW to 2D like the others.

New model t72. = less lag.

With beta 0.40 there is a big improvement not only at dessert island, every other island exept Nogova has totally different less lag trees.

Everon, malden and kulgujev has now a "little" different enviroment.
