Installation instructions:

1. Following programs must have been installed on your Linux-box:

tar, gcc. Optional: md5sum (for setup integrity check)

1a. On some verions of Linux (this was reported for RedHat 9

and Gentoo linux 2.4.20) the NSCD deamon must be installed to

run ArmA 2 server successfully. Caching of DNS would be sufficient.

2. Copy the whole "ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead" directory from Windows

to some Linux-directory (arma2arrowhead). DON'T DO ANY DATA CONVERSIONS

(even "dos2unix" translation of text files is not necessary).

Example: you can use PKZIP (WinZip, PowerArchiver, etc.) on

Windows and "unzip" on Linux.

Don't use upper case letters in the ArmA2 directory name

(/home/bob/arma2arrowhead will be good, /home/bob/ArmA2ArrowHead

may cause some troubles).

ArmA2 directory should contain subdirectories "Addons", "Bin",

"Campaigns", etc.

3. Copy the "server-x.xx.tar.gz" (x.xx is version number) file into

the arma2arrowhead directory. Unpack and install it with commands:

arma2arrowhead$ tar -xjf server-x.xx.tar.bz2

arma2arrowhead$ ./install

Watch the messages - they will inform you whether your installation

is successful.

4. Dedicated server can be started in foreground:

arma2arrowhead$ ./server

Or in background:

o$ nohup ./server > out.txt 2> err.txt &

[1] <pid>

5. Running server can be stopped by executing:

$ kill -s SIGINT <pid>

Where <pid> is process-id of mother server thread (printed out in

"nohup" command).

6. ArmA2 ArrowHead server has a feature: command-line parameter

"-pid=<pid_file>". It causes creation of <pid_file> with

PID of root ArmA2 process. If IP port specified in "-port=<nn>"

parameter is busy (in usage), ArmA2 will terminate immediately

and <pid_file> won't be written..

7. The "arma2server" script is provided for automatic server

start/restart/status query/etc. Please be sure to edit

CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS in lines 12 to 18 !

After this is done, install (hard-link?) the script into

"/etc/rc.d/init.d/arma2server" file. After that it can be managed

by "chkconfig" (see info/man).

Just now updated the linux server to 1.55 (arma 2 CO version), using server beta patch. After server became yellow. What is the reason?

that's should happen only if some data differs ...

could You make list of directory structure and all files on server including either MD5 or SHA1 or CRC32 checksums?

My problem has been solved. Reason - different files on serverside and clientside...

I think what is being mis-understood, is that people are thinking the Beta-PATCH is an actual patch. Most particularly since it is titled patch.

In reality it is not a patch, it is a completely seperate executable.

For a Linux dedicated server, your install needs to be patched. Since the server is not installed, and merely copied over... wait for it... wait for it...

The server install must be patched, 1.55 for OA, 1.08 for ArmA². Once your server installation is patched. Then copy it back to Linux. Then you can extract, set up the 1.55 Beta server.

On a windows machine, if the server is actually installed, and not copied, all you'd have to do is run the patch, because the windows registry would be correct.

oh i'm sorry i didn't mention that i have patched the files...

i controlled the 1.55/1.08 files with md5 they're the same on client and server.

If you would like to reduce the amount of data to upload, use RSYNC.

The real difference between 1.54 and 1.55 was about 60MB thanks to the rsync fuzzy function.

"rsync -avzyh --delete /home/arma/arma2server/* arma_user@se-corps.de:/home/arma/arma2server/"

Addons, common, expansion - great. Get the "dta" and "keys" folders there aswell and you should be OK. (Remember to run the "tolower" tool to convert all filenames to lowercase) Edited by Killswitch

Hi,

have a problem with running 1.55 on my linux server.

All pathes installed on the windows dedi server and running.

All data was copied into linux again.

If I try to run the server (doesnt matter if it is 1.54 latest od 1.55 beta), it says:

Data is copy of my game and there is BAF Full version bought.

Checked repeatedly filesize on Windows and Linux and it is a right file (or it seems cause it works on Windows dedi server).

Could anybody help me? I saw something about not running BAF full on the dedi server or something....

okay update.

of course my server has all files which are needed.

i made a VM (virtual machine) with a virgin debian x64 and installed the arma 2 server from scratch (with ia32-libs and so on). the problem now is the same jirkaelda experiences. when starting with ./server i get the same error messages on the same file. reuploading from my own and from other pcs makes no difference.

You need to remove the BAF folder from your linux server. The server doesn't need it (BAF lite will suffice for the server, and it's included already with ArmA 2 OA), and it can't even read the BAF pbos (that's why you're getting the error message Data file too short 'baf\addons\tracked_w_baf.pbo'. Expected 11158172 B, got 4170832 B)

Some Problems on my linux boxes, suse 64bit.

If player connects and mission begins to start, server dies. I have no idea why:

First of all you should reduce the warnings by doing what the system is asking for, enter values for 3D_Performance, Resolution etc. here is an example for the arma2cfg which should work:

MaxSizeGuaranteed=1024;

But I m sure this will not fix your crash.

Have you renamed all files (including maps) to lower case letters?

You can do it by just running the ./install script again, it will do the trick for you.

You should also make sure that the folder expansion is in lower letter, the install script does not rename it from Expansion to expansion.
