What has changed so drastically in OA that the game requires hardware upgrades?

What has changed so drastically in OA that the game requires hardware upgrades?

My Pc meets and exceeds the min and the recommended requirements for the games from OFP - Arma 2... Why is it that in OA the recommended hardware has changed so drastically from Arma 2?

My PC meets the min req for OA but does not meet the recommended req. However for Arma 2 it meets min and also the recommended req for Arma 2...

What gives BIS? What changes did you makes hardware wise that has raised the bar in OA?

extremely high detailed tree models. they figure since there's less trees in the desert, why not go crazy on the polygons.

That is your own assumption, which you cannot back up..

@Baz: that is most likely because of the new AO SSAO and maybe the new lighting system

    Indoor environment with furniture?
But honestly if you can run Arma 2 okay you will probably run OA okay as well.

well that assumption got a point. try to run chernarus map on combined ops. you will experience a lots of fps downs comparing to the vanilla arma 2.

My guess is the ArmA II requirements weren't high enough, and they just changed them for the OA release, to something more accurate. I mean who has tried to run ArmA II on a 7800GT? According to CYRI, my Laptop(Acer Aspire 5251-1658) can run ArmA II, but I know from personal experience that it will not run, at least not smoothly.

    EDIT: It's actually probably SSAO.

why doesn't can you run it detect the right gfx card in my rig? :P

The have done some engine improvements from arma2 to OA, and it might be a few of those that needs more power for the puters?

OA was alot harder to run for me, my 4870x2 struggled to run it at even lower settings than I ran ArmA 2 at, I ran A2 at Very High settings all maxed out, had to upgrade to a GTX 480 just to get 40 + FPS.
