List of "Armed Assault 1" addons that work in "ArmA II" as well

Recommended Posts

Greetings

Today I found out there are certain addons from "Armed Assault 1" what work perfectly in "ArmA II", without any modification, just drag&drop them into your addons folder.

I know Im probably an idiot, and its old news for most of you guys, but judging from the replies on my original post back in the "porting addons"-thread, there are indeed some people out there who, like me, didnt know about this.

So, Ill think Ill start a little list, of the Addons that will work without any editing in ArmA II. Please contribute any addons that you know about!

It looks spectacular in game, plus the weapons work (the cannon shake looks especially cool given the high quality cockpit). Only major issue is that i'm not getting any sound for the jet engine, inside or out. Same for you? This definitely deserves to work in ArmA2, fits perfectly aside from that issue.

That is really cool, I'm gonna dl that addon. I hope more addons get posted here!

EDIT: There's a few errors, gotta place it as empty so you can get in.

Most of the addons have smaller bugs. No sound, no working pilots, etc.. I just choose them if they appear in the editor list and are controlllable.

And for the non-working pilots, just use "this moveindriver XYZ" in the command line.

This here f22 works perfectly as far as I could tell:

surely theer must be someone who could make it work in arma 2 fully (ie with sounds in arma 2 pilot and without the pop up that I get about missing file error).

I hope there is, I'm sure the Mig-15 is anything but a stealth plane! I also wonder why the f22 has the sound, and not the mig; What could be missing?

f-22 must have custom sounds whilst mig-15 must have used arma defaults.... It will just be a simple config change for those surely...... The addons will just glow unnatural white on thermal scopes...

dePBO it and add an vanilla engine sound and change the pilot classname.

Very cool list. Thanks for sharing!

Now, how do we add a sound file and pilot to the PBO?

:)

I do know how to dePBO, but that's about it. Never messed with config files before.

Before doing anything like that, ask the original author if he permits to change his work! At least before you release it.

I looked at the pbo file already. the sounds for the mig15 are all included as .wss files. are these not compatible with arma 2? The pilot is easy to change, just need to substitute in the config a class name for one in OA or Arma 2 vanilla.

the wss is the format used by A2 too, might be problems with the defined access routes...

oh really? What the difference the path in the config is something like sound/mig_15engine.wss, does it need to be different, like mig15bis/sound/mig_15engine.wss?

I took a fast look into the config, and it seems that not all the sounds are assigned. The plane itself inherits from the "Plane" class, I guess in A1 it had the sounds defined, and in A2 (I guess) this class might not have any sounds assigned. The config has to be re-written a bit.

I will e-mail the author and ask for permission, it would be a giant waste if we lost this great addon, because there are no others like it... Although remember guys if the author doesn't respond within a sensible time like 3 weeks it means that you can modify his work (in a sensible way, like repairing bugs etc..) but must give credit to him which is our case with the Mig-15. Lets hope all goes well. If he doesn't reply I or one of you guys can fix the addon, I'll certainly do it.

Thats right. As long as you dont include it in any mods etc.

Just a simple "Look this is the Addon by X, I made it work in ArmA II as well".

This is probably the best way and avoids a lot of duplication of effort. Let's hope that there will be some responses. It would be sad to lose these wonderful assets for ArmA II.
