Thread: No grass but high terrain resolution?

No grass but high terrain resolution?

Is there some nice addon somewhere that will allow me to have zero grass but normal/high resolution terrain? It seems to me there must be a desire for this combination, if grass is not desired because of the grass-AI thing, then having higher terrain mesh to compensate might be a good alternative setup.

Set terrain detail to very low in video options, the lower it is the less grass there is, the textuers itself is effected by texture detail.

Hmm no I don't mean the texture resolution I mean the terrain grid resolution you turn down the grass setting by reducing the terrain grid resolution, what I'm after is an addon/method to lose the grass but to retain or even increase the terrain grid resolution.

You can check out the GLT Framework addon (version 2.7 I think) which has a function for that included (mp compatible). But to be honest, I don't recommend the use of it for long time services because a more superior version of the GLT Framework has been already developed and will be released "in the near future".

Hmm thanks for the answers guys, but I think I'm suffering from a misconception

I had thought that increasing terrain grid resolution would have the same effect that it did in OFP - that is, to make the terrain more complex with more terrain grid points, but after messing about in the editor just now I can't see any terrain difference between the highest and the lowest, apart from the grass visibility.

So, for me to simply set my terrain grid resolution to 50 will have the desired effect it seems.

Afaik Suma said a long time ago that the OFP terrain detail settings (lots of ditches for high detail) can't be implemented in the ArmA engine.

Oh you mean how bumpy and rough the terrain was?

I really miss the high detail bumpy terrain from resistance. Especially chernarus is much too flat in too much places where that bumpyness would do wonders. Yet I also remember broken missions due to bmp's that didn't arrive due to beeing stuck in high detail bumps, hehe.

that bumpiness made no sense. terrain is continuous and slopes in gradations. it is not covered in mud pillars and miniature hills.

However small bumps and holes in the ground should not be as rare as they are in ArmA2.
I think Outerra has it spot on in this video.

And small ditches would be pretty neat to have as well.
