View Full Version : RCon server administration coming to ArmA 2!
Hmm,
it seems that Battleye is sending all data correctly whereas the arma 2 server itself is not.

I can open the program fine, but I have a new problem for you
As soon as I connect I see the player list for a split second, then it disappears. I click refresh and it does the same thing.
I took a video so you could see it:
have you run the program as admin?
I also have a question?
Is there any special thing to do for a Linux server (ubuntu 10.x). server works is tracked by gametracker and gamespy with no problems but i cant connect with the RCon tool
i have a folder inside the:
Arma2\battleye\beserver.so
Arma2\battleye\beserver.cfg
Containing:
RConPassword 1234
Maxping 300
be = 1 in server.cfg
port is forwarded in router

OK,
i uploaded the alpha version of V. 1.5. Now the player list should not be get cleared at least. Hope it works now. If so do you get "Waiting for response" messages?

Is this an OA server? If so, put the beserver.cfg into .\expansion\battleye.
Hi Soner,
Thanks for the Gui RCon tool.
What planes do you have in the future for this tool ? As someone else has mentioned adding a admin chat feature would be terrific if possible.
Hi luap,
thanks for your kind words.
Well I am currently working on V. 1.5 final which will enable the user to store all player data contained in the player list in a sql database. So you will be able to track player activities on your server or just create statistics.
As someone else has mentioned adding a admin chat feature would be terrific if possible.
I am not sure but I think that there is currently no server command supporting this feature.

No this is a standard 26slots Arm2 server named: Battlegroup-=XTRA=-Arma2. But what im wondering is if BE reads from the Arma2 game folder? (In windows this is a different folder). And if Linux can read the 'RConPassword' with the capitols this might not be right?

The capitals aren't a problem. Are you sure the file name is lower-case though, i.e. "beserver.cfg"?

Well, last version working for me was 1.3. Version 1.4 just crashed everytime i tried to connect.
In the latest version I get this error if I try to connect to the Linux server:

$able, it seems that the ban reason part of a bans.txt file gets truncated to 31 characters when it is transfered to the RCon client. For example, if the bans.txt file on the server contains this line:
11112222333344445555666677778888 -1 Silly person ruining the game for others...then, when querying for the ban list using the RCon bans command, you'll only recieve the following:
GUID Bans:
[#] [GUID] [Minutes left] [Reason]
----------------------------------------
0 11112222333344445555666677778888 perm Silly person ruining the game f
Is that a bug or a feature? (BE server v1.113)
EDIT It may also be a 72-characters-per-line limit in the list that's sent back when you issue the bans command
I have tried every trick listed here to get the rcon working, yet continually get "could not connect"
Frustratingly I have had this working on other servers in the past !
It is beyond me how there are no decent comprehensive instructions for Battle Eye or for any of the GUIs.
$able - Can you please explain in one comprehensive page the instructions for getting this installed and working. It seems reading all 27 pages that a lot of things have changed and some pages even contradict each other. If I could just get the official version connected it would be a start.
It seems that most confusion is over where to place the beserver.cfg dependant on where your profile leads. I appreciate you have explained this somewhat here but and example would help a lot.

It seems that most confusion is over where to place the beserver.cfg dependant on where your profile leads. The first post phrases it like this:
All you have to do to enable it is creating a BEServer.cfg file in your BattlEye working directory (in the application data / profiles / BEpath folder, not the install folder)This then begs the question of where "the BattlEye working directory" is. The parenthesis in the quote suggests it has to do with something called the application data folder or the profiles folder or the BEPath folder. A further question arises - what are these three?
The BattlEye working directory is a folder named BattlEye in one of two places:
The ArmA II application data folder
In Windows Vista, 7 and 2008, that's the path given by %LOCALAPPDATA%\ArmA 2 for ArmA II and %LOCALAPPDATA%\ArmA 2 OA for the Arrowhead dedi. A typical value is C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ArmA 2.
In Windows XP and 2003, the application data folder is %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\ArmA 2. A typical example is C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application data\ArmA 2. These locations are the default and are used if you launch the dedicated server without using either the -profiles or -BEpath launch parameters.
The path given as the -profiles=... startup parameter used when launching the ArmA II dedi. If, for example, you would launch the ArmA II OA dedicated server using
arma2oaserver.exe -profiles=D:\Games\ArmA2then the BattlEye working directory would be D:\Games\ArmA2\BattlEye
You can also specify the BattlEye working directory directly using the startup parameter -BEpath. Example:
arma2oaserver.exe -BEpath=D:\MyBattlEyeIn this case, the BattlEye working directory will be D:\MyBattlEye.
Here are examples of the full paths to the beserver.cfg file for a few different cases. The examples assume that the username of the user that will run the servers is "jimbob". "ArmA II" means running the arma2server.exe whereas "Arma II OA" means you're launching arma2oaserver.exe
ArmA II, Windows 7/Vista/2008, default:
C:\Users\jimbob\AppData\Local\ArmA 2\BattlEye\beserver.cfg
ArmA II OA, Windows 7/Vista/2008, default:
C:\Users\jimbob\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\BattlEye\beserver.cfg
ArmA II, Windows XP, default:
C:\Documents and Settings\jimbob\Local Settings\Application data\ArmA 2\BattlEye\beserver.cfg
ArmA II OA, Windows XP, default:
C:\Documents and Settings\jimbob\Local Settings\Application data\ArmA 2 OA\BattlEye\beserver.cfg
Any ArmA II, any Windows, -profile=D:\profiles:
D:\profiles\BattlEye\beserver.cfg
For Linux dedicated servers, the default locations are:
For the ArmA II dedi, it's ./battleye
For the ArmA II OA dedi, it's ./expansion/battleye
Killswitch,
Thank you, a comprehensive instruction at last :)
However it didn`t cure my particular issue, but at least I am now confident I have the beserver.cfg in the right place.
I now however get a Battleye Server: Unknown Command message on startup, I only have the RConPassword XXXXXX in the beserver.cfg

Problem solved :p
You need to use your external IP(Your ISP IP) to connect to your Arma 2 server with RCon.
I don't know why you can't connect from your own local network with your local IP using RCon.... i can join my own arma 2 server using local ip here, but for some reason this is not working with RCon...

its real simple for AOW server: make a file called : BEServer.cfg in the battleye folder (i think it was the one in the temp folder or users) and make sure it has this in the file:
RConPassword 123456youpassword789
Maxping 400
i made an alternative Battleye rcon client.
it works by using the chatline.
basicly you will have BE power on the chatline.

http://www.bildedump.no/pics/f1011c9e4462597209a0060100ecf9b1.jpg
still needs a bit more development before a release can be done.
its written in python so it should work in both windows and linux.
altho its not tested on linux yet.
this is a server application only. no need to install anything as a client.
admin premissions are checked on the server. only admins listed in the auth file will be able to issue commands.
autokicks on bad languages. this can be enabled, its optional
you can also enable a autokick function on none english/latin words. like cyrillic
this is enabled in a config file, also optional
altho im going to create a exe version for windows instead of a bunch of *.py files
more to come soon
i made an alternative Battleye rcon client.
Very good! That what I need)

indeed
im suprised none of these excellent rcons have some kind of chat messaging capabilities yet
i dont know how to do any of this but i didnt think it would be that hard, see'ing as we can already send global messages throo BE when we kick or ban somone, cant it just work off that system to send BE messages?
anyhoo keep up the good work with the Rcon's

Sending messages throught BE is beeing worked on. but according to able. no eta on it.
its already possible to send messages from the server using packet injection. but that is something most people want to avoid.
and most people dont know how to do that. and is not really a optimal solution.

Sorry if this has been asked before.
Why cant you have "space" in BattleEye path?
i.e.
ArmA 2 path
"C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\Combined Operations"
BE path apparently does not allow space between Bohemia and Interactive. So when you launch server.exe it creates new forlder in:
C:\Program Files\Bohemia\...
Why is that?

Is there a limit to how many bans can be held ? Reason i ask is that lately BERcon stops responding when i type the "bans" command. The "players" command still does like it should but "bans" BERcon disconnects. Think i have aprox 140 bans in the list.
Another thing my server plays Doomi and every time a be-banned player tries to connect, a player slot will be occupied by ai. Only way to remove the ai from slot is for loggedin admin to got to lobby and force himself into the ai-taken slot.

OK, found the problem. Here is the deal for those that do not know. When using AOW Central they have a R Con contol panel to acces the server information, start, stop the server etc. In the control panel it shows the ip address for your server. That is the one I was using. Same one I use for FTP access. It did not work for BE Rcon at all. I even asked tech to check to make sure I was using the right ip address. Well, I have recently added a gametracker banner to my website and while playing with it I linked to the details page and notice they have my server with a slightly different ip address. So, Yes. I used the ip that gametracker recognized and it worked fine. So if you are using AOW central and have this problem. You now have an option to check the ip. Funny thing is. FTP uses the other IP. I think there may be two ip's per server or something. Not sure. Hope this helps any that are lost out there.
Sorry for not getting back to you soon $able. I have left you a PM as well. Thank you again for your help my friend.

2 quick questions:

1. Not planned right now. It should be easy to create a similar Linux client though (the RCon protocol specification is available here: http://www.battleye.com/downloads/BERConProtocol.txt).
2. UDP.
Hello guys,
just wanted to announce that I continued the development of the RCon tool.
And it seems that I have managed to fix the known crash occuring at random when starting the tool. The issue can be traced to the GUI lib I had been using.
I will release a new version soon and I hope that everybody who had to struggle with this issue will test it and give me a report. Thanks!

Looking forward to next version.
I will try it and report back.
Ok guys,
here is the new version: http://dev-heaven.net/projects/rcon/files
I integrated a brand new version of the GUI framework and do hope that it will not cause any further problems. Otherwise I will remove it completely from the tool and use another framework.
Now it must work without any compatibility mode! If it does not please report!
Thanks for testing!
If you like the tool please donate in order to help me to keep up the project.
Will there be a Linux version of RCon, too?
If there is demand I will start to develop a linux version. But first I have to make sure that the Windows version runs without any problems.

It the server in the same (local) network as your client PC?
BE Server v1.117 adds the new BE command "missions" (similar to ArmA's #missions), that allows server admins to retrieve a list of mission files on their server and subsequently load a mission using the game's #mission command via BE RCon.
for everyone else, if you have reasonable feature requests (like missions was)
feel free to post them or mention to me (will see what can be done)

Reasonable Feature Request:
Reserve Slots?
Allows GUIDs in a file named reserved.cfg (or something like that) to be able to join the server if it's full and it'll kick somebody to make room (say highest ping?). Other reserve slot players should be protected from being kicked by another reserve slot player.

Feature: Being able to see the ingame chat in the be-console.
Bugs: The problem with over 40bans makes the "players" command not work, and BERcon looses connection to server.
: BeBanned clients trying to connect taking up slots as AI .
Edit: Sorry its not the "players" command that makes BERcon disconnect, its the "bans" command.
I am about to release a new version of ArmA 2 RCon. It will support the new missions command as well as a new black GUI skin.
Version 1.7 has been released!
The update contains the new missions/#mission command as you can see on the following screenshot.

Not going to happen at this point due to possibility of manipulation (yes, that's possible with PunkBuster as well). As I said in the past though, the community could always create their own global ban system similar to PunksBusted or PBBans using BE RCon (ban streaming).

IP bans already exist, just not range bans.

Great update! Thx a lot for all the work, this makes live a little easier for server admins.
To add to the date and timestamp feature request i would like to know if its possible to add a PID in the recon tool. Now if someone reports there banned from the server i have a hard time searching for there account without it. And as far as i know players have no option to view there personal GUID.

BE has no access to the PID right now, but the player name will be added to the ban list in the future.
And yes, a player can view his own BE GUID by entering "#beclient guid" while playing on a BE-enabled server.

Is there any chance that BE can start working directly from server connect rather than waiting till the player is "in game".
I was trying to GUID ban somebody yesterday that was sitting in the lobby (dirty script kiddie), but I couldn't because battlEye thinks he's not in the server yet (as it only registers after he loads the map).
it has anoyed me a little as well.
but you could always use addBan [GUID]. if you know his guid on prehand. this way he will be autokicked when he joins the mission.
he cant do much harm sitting in the lobby except taking up a slot.
but it would be nice to see be work in lobby as well.

It would be nice because it would eliminate the need for player ID bans at all. (Some people will come back in and spam chat or call a bunch of votes to kick someone or make themselves admin, after they're GUID banned.)

I will talk to BIS regarding this as it would require integration changes. There were problems in the past, which is why it was never implemented like that in the first place.

is there eny way to make sure that if someone is using the Loki Lost Keys and joins the server that it will detect it in battleeye that works on the MP side that it will detect the hack.
coz there is a hack out and it works!
Afik Be is not designed to prevent client joining with addons. that people are able to join with cheat addons is a BIS security issue with the key system. not Be's fault.
$able.
is there any chance you can increase the length of the ban/kick message players get when they get booted of the server. or is that something bis needs to do.

verifysignatures=2; in your server.cfg - it has nothing to do with BE.
And loki is not a hack, its a tool for missionmakers. If servers run without
signatures on, they should expect to be ruined by players misusing tools like that.

Today none of my team could get onto our server. I opened up RCon and tried to join and noticed right away that I didn't have a GUID. I was then kicked by Battleye for not having a GUID as was everyone on my server.
What's the cause of this? I had to turn BE off to allow folks to get on the server.

I'm having the same problem on two servers running ArmA 2. One is linux, other is windows. It just started today after the BE update apparently. I've tried manually updating the beserver.dll, beserver.so, and beclient.dll but no luck. Everyone, including myself, gets kicked for Invalid GUID or something. Of course, turning off BE solves this problem but that's not really a permanent solution for me.

yes and no..
global and lobby gets broadcasted to server all the time.
but for side chat to get broadcasted and logged . players on your side is needed.
vehicle chat only gets broadcasted and logged if players are in your vehicle. so on..

I am having the same problem but with the 1.148 client BE update and server build 1.129. I have joined with 1.147 and the server said updating to 1.148 and it said complete and i still get kicked for Unkown Game Version and im on the latest build.
I think the BE server/client version got updated to (v1.127) and now some people get kicked by BE : mssg: You Were kicked off the game. BattlEye Unknown Game Version. This seems to happen to users all with CO 1.6 with or without a beta patch loaded.

Hey guys,
I am back and working on the next RCon GUI version right now. The known kick/ban issue is going to be fixed and I am also about to implement the new chat interface (see https://dev-heaven.net/issues/29116 ).
Any ideas on how to realize this new feature for the GUI?

Nice to hear that i hope the missing information problem will also be solved so that we can fully enjoy the tool once again. For the chat function maybe you could use a seperate tab (like players, bans and info tab) just displaying all the ingame chat and admin chat (in different colors)?
The new beta version (1.8.2) released!
I fixed the annoying kick/ban bug and added a simple ingame chat feature (only global for now, private chat is planned for the final version).
The list of donators will be added to the final version.
Thanks for testing!

The chat function seems to work just fine thx allot for the update. Next is testing the kick/ban function but there are no bad players at the moment :) Maybe it’s possible to make that RCon window resizable? And if you sort the players on ping/ms the list will pop back to its original form within 5/10 seconds maybe this function isn’t really doing what it should.

love the new update cant wait for direct messages to single players
So do you guys think that it's ok how i implemented the global chat feature? No need for an additional tab?
larsiano
Mar 14 2012, 14:43
It works fine as it is but I think a separate tab would do the trick better or a changeable size of the app so that both fields can be made big enough at the same time. btw is there a way to change the player list updating? This seems to be only 10secs now and maybe this can be increased to a higher number a little to 30 / 60 secs? Or with an update button on the menu tab that would be even more awesome!
Yes, you can change the update time by editing the settings.ini file.

AutoRefreshTime = 10

very nice, seems to work perfectly. And the window is now resizable too, great feature! Would it be possible to save the 'last known' window size in the .cfg on exit?
Today I finished version 1.8.3 FINAL.
The tool is now capable of storing the GUI data in the settings.ini (Not only the window size..). Finally I also added the list of donators (see Info-> About).
Have fun!

Works like a charm! Maybe its an idea to get Sickboy or Kyu to help out with the new protocol they seem to know a lot about it already. Thx for the support!

Oh yeah,
I forgot to fix this. Sorry.
Any other suggestions or requests for the next version?

Dont know if possible already or if it has been discussed but.: Is there a way to directly login to the server by changing a shortcut link? And maybe it would be nice if it would show somewhere what server you are connected to right now (for multi-server monitor) and with what other admins you are doing this (maybe even with direct admin > admin chat?).
>Is there a way to directly login to the server by changing a shortcut link?
You mean via command line parameter?
Sounds good! But unfortunately I am not able to query whether other admins are also present (limited by BE).

-block direct chat when player is on lobby
- block chat if all player´s are in lobby.
-block direct chat when player is on lobby
- block chat if all player´s are in lobby.
Waste of time if you ask me.. this will be working in next arma patch afik. so removing something that will need to be reimplemented againt isnt best solution imo.
just dont send msg to players in lobby as they cant see them anyway. ;p
Is there a way to use Rcon on Linux even via shell? I couldn't find anything on the forum.
btw, thanks so much for the gui Soner!

Pfft... "very easy to use". I followed every tutorial here and on Bohemia Wiki on how to set up this RCON tool to a server.... this tool still can't connect to the server.
Here is my BEserver.cfg file:
RConPassword jacob
Very simple :)
Here is where it is at on my server:

I am currently having several problems using Rcon, which is a great program btw.
My biggest problem is that Rcon keeps crashing after several minutes. Another problem is that Rcon crashes if i send private message to certain people. It also seems i cant kick anyone, i need to use the in-game option for that
Some side info:
Server is running Linux and the mod on the server is Project Reality. My own system is running Win7 64 and i am using Rcon 1.8.3
Hey,
I think I found the bug making the tool crash. But unfortunately I am not able to test it intensely as I do not own any servers and the one i got access to is sometimes empty.
It would really help to get access to a popular server with much traffic.
Sorry for the inconvenience but without the right testing environment I am not able to avoid those problems.

have you setup a BEServer.cfg file in the BE working folder ( C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ArmA 2\BattlEye)like the manual said? with RConPassword xxx in it?
yes i setup a BEServer.cfg file (i uses my profiles folder). it is also marked as active when the server is runing. i can connect from any PC at home, but i cant connect directly at the server when i start the tool there. i also seems the server is crashing when i use it there / or try it to often, but could be a mission crash (we tried allot at this moment)
Hey,
i'm using rcon and it works as it should.
But i would like to be able to run commands from a file, i.e. make it executable.
The login from a .bat file works, but how can i automatically execute commands after the login?
Is there a source of the rcon? Or any libs working with rcon?
Thanks,
stice

BEC doesnt work, i always get the "for security reasons you should move the bec folder out of the OA folder" message.
Even if i moved it to c:/bec.
stice then you didnt use the latest version 1.44, that issue is gone now.
as armatech said. you can use bec, but you have to use the scheudler system, altho you will not be able to send the wannted command on connections. minimum 1 min delay with it,

Hey guys,
version 1.8.4 featuring many improvements is out! I replaced the whole network lib using a more reliable and stable one now. Also some internal core changes have been applied (the whole network interaction is running in a separate thread now). Due to these changes the tool should be more stable from now on. I also added some nice features like displaying the server info in the titlebar as well as in the new status bar.

I'am using the new "ArmA 2 RCon GUI 1.8.5 BETA II".
Problem is, that i can't see the Score, Death and Team (kills?)
There is only a "?" for every player.
Is it because of Linux, or did i setup anything wrong?

So connecting to 127.0.0.1 doesn't work?
(...)
I confirm this, curently running a test server and can't connect from the pc running the ARMA OA server (but can connect from a virtual machine hosted on it :) )
Trying to get it set up on my server running Windows Server 2008.
Contents of beserver.cfg (Located in C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\BattlEye):
RConPassword test
Using TA2DST to launch the server, I check the box to initialize BattlEye, everything goes smoothly:
17:28:29 Dedicated host created.
17:28:31 BattlEye Server: Initialized (v1.151)
17:28:31 Host identity created.
However, when I try either the BERcon.exe or the RCON GUI Tool, I get the same error:
Could not connect! (case of GUI) and Could not connect to server (in case of BERcon.exe)
I'm using BERcon.exe/RCON GUI on my personal computer, trying to connect to the game server. People can connect to the server and play on it, but admins cannot administrate by RCON

same as above.......coult not connect...i m using ta2dst 1.4 also... any help?
Edit: i try everything and still cant connect...
i found 3 possible places that maybe may put the beserver.cfg.
i found 2 in arma2 install folder, one is on root folder called battleye (this folder i cant remember if i put it there (comfirm someone that the folder exists from the initial install by default)), second is in expansion folder.
the third is on appdata folder.
i try all the places , with BEServer.cfg and beserver.cfg. confirm someone for sure what is the right cfg name (with capitals or not? )
the only command in the cfg is "RConPassword test" without quotes ofcourse.....
nothing.
i try over lan without firewalls..........still cant connect.
i m running the battleye option from TADST . the battleye working on my server and initialized , i can connect on my server lan or wan and im playing , all good.
when the beserver application opens ,read the cfg without a specific command like "-beserver.cfg"?

Yeah, I also cannot connect via this tool. Always "could not connect" message. Tried with localhost, 127.0.0.1 and my internet IP. Ran out of ideas. Is there a tutorial on how to set up this thing? I got the .exe in my server's BE working directory, BEserver.cfg in every needed place.
This "could not connect" seems to be a new global error. I've used Rcon GUI for months on multiple servers but since the update that was released on the 15th of AUG, Rcon seems to have been broken. It's not a server side issue. It's an Rcon issue. All your files are in the right place, the tool is just broken until the developers fix it.

In the new version, after the nag screen, the RCON stops responding. I found a fix though - delete the db file in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\ArmA 2 RCon
I guess it's some incompatibility with older files.

Hey Soner, great program you got there. I noticed on the Issues section of your ArmA 2 RCon GUI Projects page that you have "Extended Chat Features." What does that entail? I have a hosted server so can't get BEC (Battleye Extended Controls) on our server and trying to find a way to get scheduled messages to show up automatically when server is restarting to warn players. Is there a possibility that you could add something like that? Haven't been able to find any other way to do it besides BEC or typing them in manually with your ArmA 2 RCon.
Soner, we just love your ArmA 2 RCon GUI 1.8 and are learning how to use it. I have a question.... Where is the log stored on the server and what is it called?

22:43:42 BattlEye Server: Initialized (v1.168)
This message get repeated every 30 seconds i think
What usually worked was replacing the file manually after downloading from battleye.com. I did just this but after a restart of the server nothing changed. I've also made sure i replaced the right file (replaced them all) due to the 'old' file being locked by the running server and replaced it while the server was shut down. Maybe i'm missing something or should also replace the client file to make it work?

Hi there, I was just wondering, is it possible to do an IP Range Ban on an ArmA 2 Server? Or do I have to type out all the IPs separately into the bans.txt? Any help is greatly appreciated, I have been googling for days now, and no website has my answer, so I have decided to ask here. We have a hacker who keeps changing his IP within a range cos it's dynamic, so for us to slow him down a bit more, we wish to just do a full IP range ban. We know the possible consequences of what this may incur for other players, but we're ready to deal with that. Thanks in Advance!

are you sure that the battleye exe have admin rights to run? if i understand right , if you put the file manualy, you are ok, and if the battleye updates the file you have problems.
maybe this is the problem.
