How embarrassing...

I'm making a mission, over 6 hours invested just today, and with so many adjusting, trying, saving, etc., somehow the mission was saved and now when I open it in the editor the "preview" function is not there anymore. :banghead:

Could anybody tell me how to get the preview option back?

I hope this is not irreversible... :sad_o:

Thanks. Splicer.

If you can open and edit it in the editor, just add a playable unit?

Hi Mosh,

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. :(

As soon as I open the editor no "Preview" option is there and if I add more units (e.g., player, playable, non-playable) the "Preview" option does not return/show up.

Gee, I can't possibly be the first one to run into this. I hope that there is a fix.

Nonetheless, thanks for the help Mosh. Very appreciated.

My best, Splicer.

Do it again, then save the mission. Open the mission file in notepad and check you only have one line that says:
player="PLAYER COMMANDER";

If you only have one, exit Arma and restart the editor. Make and save a quick mission with a player controlled character to check that loading it doesn't break anything. If it doesn't, load up the problematic mission.

Does it come back if you clear the mission and put a playable character in there?

If that fails, try to merge the mission with something else and see if that fixes anything.

No, I've never heard of this before except for the obvious non player characters in there.

If everything fails, share it and I'm sure somebody might find the problem. Manually editing the .sqm file in a bad way, tends to end up in a crash.

Just to make clearer what happened.

I was previewing a mission when I paused the game and by accident I clicked on the "save" button instead of "suspend".

Thanks much in advance. Splicer.

Hi Carl,

Thanks for the pointers. I tried the all, but neither worked.

I manged to get back the "Preview" function by deleting my player character and creating a new one. However, as soon as I start making modifications and preview them I start getting the same problem.

Anybody.... Help please?

Thanks. Splicer.

Thats a mystery.
Try opening a new project, choose your little man and place him on the world, then do a copy/paste and save it under another name.
Or did you try that already ?

Might help, might not...

Hi BoneBoys,

Well, I had to bite the bullet to get this going. :pill:

I tried your suggestion and I got 2 errors coming up: (1) Cannot handle more than 144 groups (?), and (2) some scripts were not being read (?).

I had to take yesterday back-up (thank goodness for being anal about making backups! :D) and then copy/paste all the units which, lucky enough, also copied their corresponding markers.

At the end I lost 1 hour of work, and that's because I had backed up yesterday's work.

So, to me it is still a mystery why if one is playing the game when using the editor and saves the game by mistake (I got finger-clicking happy) then the whole mission cannot be edited any more and gets fubar.

I still would like to know if there is a way to fix this because -I know- it is bound to happen again.

In any case, thank you so much for your help BoneBoys. I truly appreciate it.

Now, back to scripting. :yay:

All the best, Splicer.
