Release Notes
It has been nearly 3 weeks, and 9 successfully deployed updates, since the A.C.E. Advanced Combat Environment Mod, Beta 1 was released.
These 3 weeks have been very intense, with a very alive and vibrant Report -> Fix -> Feedback (Repeat) cycle, for both the mod and its distribution system.
We want to thank everyone who has contributed to the projects by reporting bugs, giving feedback or making suggestions!
Today we would like to announce our Public Beta 2 Release.
As a bonus in these x-mas times, we have added ACEX: PLA (Chinese Expansion), by Fromz!
We intend to keep updating our Mod following a set schedule.
We do this to get as much feedback and bug reports as possible, as soon as possible, and provide everyone the latest code to test.
This means the development will be ongoing, new improvements and additions will arrive as we go

What is A.C.E. and what is it not
A.C.E. for ArmA 2 is a full conversion mod and is based on A.C.E. for ArmA 1, which was based on WGL for OFP.
The WGL and A.C.E 1 roots were "When realism matters". And with A.C.E. 2 it is no different.
We try to keep a balance between realism and gameplay. We try not to sacrifice either in name of the other.
We try to please as many as possible, but it is simply impossible to please all.
Please feel free to give constructive feedback on our choices.

CBA and ACE are a requirement, while ACEX, ACEX_SM and ACEX_PLA are optional expansion packs.
This way, we hope to support our users who have requested smaller mod size, and ability to concentrate on their type of units/vehicles/weapons for countries they like to play with/against.

Much of the Mod has been rewritten / optimized, and we have based our workflow and tools on CBA methods.

Installer, Updater, Patcher
There have been significant changes to the way we distribute our Mod.
Due to the ever growing sizes of content, and thus installers and updates, we have switched to a realtime patching system, called rSync, which is the core tool of the "Six Updater" Suite.
The software, once installed, can be used to install, update, maintain and repair managed modfolders.
It uses smart technologies to minimize the amount of data that needs to be downloaded, and is a very lightweight and fast protocol.
The technology has been in use for several months by the ACE team, and individual testers aswell as communities.
Documentation will be provided, and support delivered where possible.
Our milestone releases will be available in easy mirrorable 7z files, to minimize the stress on the rsync system, and give people casual means to download the initial install.

Please click Configuration, and Synchronize. The A.C.E Mod presets will by default have ACEX_PLA, otherwise you need to add it to your custom preset.

Thanks for report, fixed in six-updater-0.13.3. You can get it by running "Six Updater - Update Rubygems" from the startmenu Six Updater Suite group, or by closing the GUI, and restarting it.
I ran the Six updater GuI and donwloaded everything, but i dont see any PLA ingame.
Edit: Ah now its DLing... NO idea why it wasnt half an hour ago.

ACE beta 2 and Call of Warhammer for Medieval 2 both released today...not a bad Christmas for mod lovers.
A quick question for Fromz & the ACE team, are the CAVs implemented on the armor found in ACEXPLA? From what I remember from beta is that the Tank could take 4 hell fires and still move, was this fixed?

can someone help with medical module, im a corpsman and Ive got the module set up. I then shoot an AI teammate, so that he falls on the floor injured,(hes not dead) and I press interaction key and nothing happens. im not sure how to use it.. what am I doing wrong? ive got my bandages and everything too

You can choose which side Independent is allied to (including neither) using the mission editor. That way the PLA can fight "BLUFOR" or "OPFOR". Or both.

true, but what if you have other 'independent' units that you want to be allied with, but not allied with the PLA?
PLA will most likely never to be allied with BLUFOR, and almost always going to be allied with OPFOR.

The US and Chinese have mixed areas of interest, some that benefit both sides, some that only benefit one side. The same goes for the Russians and Chinese. Since you can choose which side the independents fight for in the editor it gives the mission designers the most flexibility to create missions based off of different political situations.
Who is China more likely to get into confrontation with (disregarding Dragon Rising)? America or Russia? Besides, it's a moot point anyway; you can group units to a leader that doesn't exist of whichever side you want, and technically have 2 platoons of PLA fighting each other!

You can say that again for the US and Russian relationship. However, the Russians are considered OPFOR? Realistically the Chinese Government is not allied with the US. They should automatically be considered OPFOR:D

I think Independent is an excellent way to go. It seems pretty reasonable to me. Besides, fromz has explained his reasoning in the past. The man is Chinese, so in my opinion the side designation should be left up to him anyways. What ever he's comfortable is fine with me.
It seems fitting though. For as long as they've been around the Chinese have always prided themselves on their independence from the rest of the world. They've done a pretty damn good job at it I might add.

Yeah I was trying to find it for you, sorry I couldn't post it. Now that I think of it, I believe he posted it in an A1 thread. I wish I could find it. I'll keep looking though.
For sure though, personally when I think of the Chinese that's usually my first thought. Hell, they invented gun powder way before and completely independent of the west. Along with just about everything else. ;)

What does that have to do with the PLA mod? I assume that by saying you want to be aligned with Russia you are meaning the US? That has nothing to do with this mod. You can be aligned with whomever you wish by scripting but the point of this debate was why was PLA released as Independent.
I was actually worried that the PLA would be released as Opfor because I really like the idea of some Russia/Pla conflicts (I'm Amercan, but thats been done to death).

First synchronize. Either click main, wait until done. Or Click configuration, click synchronize.
The mod's already attached to A.C.E. Mod Presets so just go Main, execute after that.

I just went to the home page of the updater and hit execute. It added ACE_PLA. Just make sure the Autoskip box isn't checked, it's just below execute.
I hope that helps. It's the only way I could get it to DL.

You should leave autoskip enabled. Only disable it to reset skip status if you think your files are not correct/complete.

You can also click Configuration and then Synchronize (under the login fields which you leave empty). Your mod list will synchronize with the server, then you can edit your download profile under Configuration - Presets and add the mod that you want, hit Update and then execute that.

WEST setFriend [EAST,1]; EAST setFriend [WEST,1]
And you'll have Russians and US Marines arm-in-arm drinking together while watching the go-go girls in Chernogorsk ;):D

Question. When I go to the web based client to update my presets, and I save them in the MAIN page, it does not update my yml file, it says it does, but the actual yml is untouched.

Go into the editor, click on the 'Intel' button on the bar on the right, and then at the bottom of the new window, change the 'Independent is friendly to:' setting.

LOL yea..after spending half an hour in the updater trying various options, I manually entered acex_pla to an earlier backup of yml ..
I now have a renamed copy which I added to the commandline so that you wont be able to move it around anymore :p

Thats where your wrong. You can -as explained before- with 1 click set them as OPFOR. Or 1 click to set them as BLUFOR. Where is the problem in mission making? Mission making this way makes it easier - dynamic. :)

Thats where your wrong. You can -as explained before- with 1 click set them as OPFOR. Or 1 click to set them as BLUFOR. Where is the problem in mission making? Mission making this way makes it easier - dynamic. :)

I just tried all the Chinese units in the editor and I think they're very nice. I really like the weapons, textures and vehicles. The only thing I would point out is the soldiers have very strange looking necks. They're too long and when they turn their heads it looks like their heads are being twisted off.

All the Chinese vehicles and weapon textures and models are beautiful however, as stated above, there is some issue with their necks which makes the infantry look like some hybrid of human and E.T.
Apart from that minor problem the entire mod is the best availible for ArmA 2.

Hmmmm. Was the wounding system fixed? I read that somewhere. I'm wondering what they meant by fixed cause the AI teammates still do not heal other teammates.

Another great release from the ACE team! :D
Im really loving the Updater now, it takes a bit to learn it but it really is the way to go!
My main issue right now is with the rate of fire and burst fire of the A10's cannon. You line yourself up for a fast burst on a target click a little and bullets hit the target and you turn away... And keep spewing bullets all over the place and tk everyone for an eternity before it stops shooting.

The lazy method configuration files were updated yesterday with ACEX_PLA, and last week with ACEX_SM. Redownload the configuration file. That still only gives you access to ACE related mods, but at least you'll get PLA :p
(six-updater.yml must be placed in other folder than before (http://dev-heaven.net/wiki/six-arma-updater/Six_Updater_Suite#Usage))
Please create a screenshot of the GUI window once the software is running, and attach that incl your logfiles to a ticket (http://dev-heaven.net/projects/six-arma-updater/issues)

Trying to get my server running with ACE but ran into some trouble, hope someone can help. Just updated with six-updater have @<hidden> @<hidden> @<hidden> @<hidden> @<hidden>
Starting server with:
mod=@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden> -cfg=basic.cfg -config=server.cfg -winxp -netlog -profiles=default
As i understand it the server dont start missons from usual "MPMissions" dir, but from @<hidden>/mpmissions - but when i log into server as admin and use the "#missions" i dont see the ace-missions only the ones in the ones in E:\Arma2\MPMissions.
How do i put the ACE-missions in my server.cfg's "class mission" section so the server starts up with the mission of my choise.

i was playing around with it today and i noticed for the first time that if you throw a smoke grenade then check the smoke it moves in the direction of the wind when you press shift+K never spotted that before.
allso one thing if i press shift+V to set me scope up when im a sniper with the PLA guns I have no such calibration window.

hi all again im still getting a very weird problem that is if i tell AI to get out of a vehicle they seem to warp very badly when they move even when they are very close to me there movement seems very jerky has this been discussed befor im sure some one else said about this i know i was moaning about AI warping when looking threw a scope at long range but this is at close rang and when i tell them to get out of a vehilce.

As with the previous beta release we have seperated the mod and the rsync files. If you wish to be able to update your ACE mods with the Six Updater you will have to download and add those rsync folders!!

Hellfire works fine on my end, ACE 195. It used to be bugged, but it is now fixed in the latest update.

I has messing with ACE features and found something that has asked a lot on sugestions but havent seen many people talking about it after the release.
Being able to get ammo from a Friendly without the need to him drop the ammo, this is awesommeeeeee!!

So I have my old ACE folders in my arma 2 installation folder. Now when running the update should I leave "autoskip" checked or do I need to leave it unchecked? I'm not so clear what the instructions on the autoskip actually mean , specifically this "(If you enable "Autoskip", it goes faster, but future updates will not be picked up "Six Updater - Console")". That's a problem with the game engine itself, not ACE related at all. It has been reported many times on dev-heaven (bug reporting website for the game and certain mods).
I'm not sure if it was this issue or another one, but a dev replied to it saying that it's somekind of limitation that they're unable to fix right now.

A real-life GAU-8 takes time to spool down. A burst is just that, a burst.

Can't join any games. Installed 'ace' mod and up to 1.05 patch.
I also see 'ace 2' in server names now and again ,,, Is that another version or something ? I'm getting frustrated. I hate installing mods, thought i'd do this one so i can join my favourite servers but now i can't join sh^t anymore
Mods are ok and all, but if you need to install another mod (or multiple) for every single sever it will REALLY thin out the playerbase .

Yestedays uptade changed the signature files so if you couldnt uptade it yesterday to beta 2 uptade 10,this could be the problem.And maybe your favarute servers are running diffrent mods with ace.check their website and forums.

Hi folks! Imagine what, I cannot install ACE2 mod!!!!
That crappy updater v0.4.1 refuses to work at all and the developer site seems built to be read only by programmers or IT specialist. I cannot understand a single word. Any video or instruction posted anywhere presumes that the Six updater works, that is precisely my problem, infact:
When I use the GUI, I got this message: ERROR: NO MIGRATION WITH VERSION NUMBER 2
Six updater site tells: If it doesn't please try surfing to: http://localhost:16333 or http://127.0.0.1:16333 ... too bad that both links are broken.
Using the CONSOLE presume you have a cfg file that is created by using the the GUI... are we are again, it doesn't work! And there isn't any copy of that cfg file in the Dev site!
Now, what am I supposed to do with the 600MB 7Z file of the ACE mod? Why the hell didn't they used the good old, simple method? Is it too simple for you guys? Big downloads are not a problem for us, remember we got through FFAR mod, ECP, LIBERATION 41-45, FDFmod, Pedagne mod, etc.... a new bunch of GB to download will not scare anyone.

For those with database/migration issues, please uninstall the software, make sure you remove the configuration files (http://dev-heaven.net/wiki/six-arma-updater/Six_Updater_Suite#Uninstall).
Then reinstall the new 0.4.2 setup (http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/six-arma-updater)

Its not that hard... But I would guess that sooner or later, we'll see a single file .exe that install all mod files, the updater and preset it? That shouldnt be too much work I think.
I havent experienced any of these issues myself but at a glance its quite obvious that the first step (ie basic download of the mod) really should be easier or ACE will loose out on players. And that's not good for any of us.

I havent experienced any of these issues myself but at a glance its quite obvious that the first step (ie basic download of the mod) really should be easier or ACE will loose out on players. And that's not good for any of us.
I don't think that anybody here will explain again why we are using SIX-Updater, specially during beta phase (which still isn't over yet).
There are enough other methods to get ACE 2. If someone isn't able to invest a few minutes to get things sorted and only comes here to write crap then he won't get any support. It's easy as that.
And as you can see, Sickboy is allmost 24/7 here in BIF and tries to fix problems related to the updater and helps where he can.

Mind you, if you reinstall the software, and needed the 'chcp workaround' before, it must be reapplied after installing the software.

So who had the wonderful idea of making the tusk armor even stronger ? Not trying to disrespect the creators, the mod is awesome, but cmon, didnt ace claim to bring balance ? You just made it even worse so far. I rather have ka's 1 shooting armors from 6 km away like in vanilla then hitting a tusk with 2 metis and 4 rpg7 and they are not even disabled, 4 vhkr hits to kill a tusk, really ?! t90 vs tusk battles are also pretty pathetic now and lets not even talk about giving so many new toys to blufor while giving pretty much nothing to opfor, besides a nerfed metis. Will we ever see any balance in ace or this is how its gonna be ?

Ive now been able to install the new beta after copying .cfg file to app folder. But i havnt been able to launch the config. website and i got no launcher so i launch it with alpinestars
I don't know if this is a genuine problem or not, but for some reason I don't have an aiming reticule in-game anymore. So the only way to aim is by looking down the sights/ through the scope. It also means that I can't move the reticule over other units to see who they are (really annoying when playing medic).
I understand if this is part of the ACE mod for the purposes of realism, but I seem to gather from other players online that they do have an aiming reticule. Is there any way to fix this problem.
N.B When I play without the ACE mod I do have an aiming reticule, so I doubt it's anything to do with my personal game settings.

It's true, that ACE 2 has some disbalance behind Opfor and Blufor. Playing Warfare, for example, M1A1 and M1A2 Tusk have very big advantages in armor. In this case, 4 or 5 M1A1 tanks can eliminate everything on there way. ACE 2, without doubts, excellent mod, but this disbalance brings many inconveniences...

hello, today playing in the island quesh-kibrul, we were with a bar of infinite of wire and this did not let to us pass, furthermore it did not take any concentrated demolition charge, and it would not have although it, will activate it either. exists some possibility that in some future some option is implemented or tool as tiles to cut these you go of wire and power to follow the course without problems?

I never ran with a 12.5 Kg MG, but it seems a little bit too much. Soldiers are not that weak.

ATM = At the moment.
You only need to be concerned with vanilla since there are no beta patches for Arma 2 at the moment. Everyone is using 1.05. So download vanilla.

Hello everybody,
at first a great thank you to all the developers for their effort and thousands of hours they spend to provide fun to us. But since the pla Modfolder has added I am no more able to update to the latest versions. I installed the 4.1 version and got the problem that the DOS window appears and disappears a few seconds later without doing anythings.
Sickboy posted about that Problem and announced the 4.2 version of six updater. I installed this but the problem still persists. I dont know what I am doing wrong. I installed by executing as administartor and executing the updater as admin as well...without any success. I dont know how to handle that problem cause I dont know what sort of problem it is. Are there some more information around there about that special problem?
My sytem config:

HD3850 512MB
4 GB DDR2Ram @<hidden>

i try everything but can´t get AI heal AI with wounding system working..
even if i´m the player AI wont heal me (i give them any necessary morphine etc.)
only player can heal with new wounding system...
is that feature not yet implemented? or is it a bug?

Hey guys, yesterday I updated to beta 2, also I downloaded the ACEX_PLA and the ACEX_SM and installed them, but both the SM and the PLA can not be used. I do not see the extra units and the sound has not changed at all.
I tried to delete he all ACE files and the updater, and install it again but with the same result.For the record, I added SM and PLA to the shortcut and I have the newest Six Updater. Pls help me, I do not know what to do anymore...
PS: In the main menu the version it shows is 0.1.195
PS 2: Shall I add the logs?
Sixupdating way sucks! Any other way could be used?? I've asked the second time for such help.

How about changing your tone and maybe some people will be more than willing to help you. Or you can do what most people do and follow the directions given in the previous posts. Or if you are really motivated go and search through the 3900 posts here http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=91500 and I bet you will find your answer among the posts.
Probably the first suggestion will get you the quickest answer.

Except that you're not running with 12.5kg... An M240/M60 with respectable amount of ammo (ie you dont run out within 5 minutes) will net you like 50kg+. Which is very heavy indeed... If you're only carrying the machinegun and a couple of boxes and let someone else carry the rest of the ammo, you're gonna be just as quick as the rest. But of course this doesnt happen in your average game, need some more serious teamwork to have ammo boys.
If you want to go solo with a machinegun in ACE, pack an M249, MG36 or Para. They go up to around 30kg, much more tolerable in terms of stamina.

I dont think ACE likes the UAV when i access the UAV terminal Arma 2.exe vanishes from the taskbar, you end up in desktop yet you can still hear the in game sounds like radio chatter and the uav engine. The game is still running in task manager but you cant get back into it. the only thing to do is end task. and reload the game

You can disable the sm sounds by removing it from your shortcut. Also, PLEASE buy more ram for your sigs rig. It pains me to see such a nice system being handicapped like that.

From some\(little) DOS experience I've had, it's usually something wrong with a command line, but I don't know. Update: Please try enabling legacy mode: In the program files\six-updater folder, create a new text document (.txt), and name it legacy
Save your six-updater.yml into the program files\six-updater folder (like before the changes), and then run the console.
Update2: The new six-updater-setup-0.4.5 has improved exception handling; it is recommended to give it a spin; http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/six-arma-updater
At least the windows should remain open for a while on error.
(If you tried legacy.txt before, after installing the new version you'd have to make the file again)

For those with database/migration issues, please uninstall the software, make sure you remove the configuration files (http://dev-heaven.net/wiki/six-arma-updater/Six_Updater_Suite#Uninstall).
Then reinstall the new 0.4.2 setup (http://dev-heaven.net/projects/list_files/six-arma-updater)

I uninstalled the previous version and cleaned directory DATI APPLICAZIONI (I have the italian version of WinXP 32), installed the latest 0.4.5 version of the updater. Created the LEGACY.TXT file under its main directory and started the GUI... nothing new.
the error log says: ERROR: No migration with version number 2

I tried to delete he all ACE files and the updater, and install it again but with the same result.For the record, I added SM and PLA to the shortcut and I have the newest Six Updater. Pls help me, I do not know what to do anymore...
PS: In the main menu the version it shows is 0.1.195

Except that you're not running with 12.5kg... An M240/M60 with respectable amount of ammo (ie you dont run out within 5 minutes) will net you like 50kg+. Which is very heavy indeed... If you're only carrying the machinegun and a couple of boxes and let someone else carry the rest of the ammo, you're gonna be just as quick as the rest. But of course this doesnt happen in your average game, need some more serious teamwork to have ammo boys.
If you want to go solo with a machinegun in ACE, pack an M249, MG36 or Para. They go up to around 30kg, much more tolerable in terms of stamina.

Anyone encounter the problem of something like "can not find ca\weapons\abojnice_762.p3d" at the start of any mission ????????
Playing with original 1.05 is ok, but only with @<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden> After some check, I found the problem lies in the @<hidden> Help!!!

Urhhhh, Help! :(
Ran the updater to the letter and everything seemed to download fine, no errors or anything, however when loading the game it gives me this message:
Addon 'Extended_EventHandlers' requires addon 'CAData
I hit OK and the game loads but it has missing textures and the screen is messed as if something didn't load. I then tried running the game through the updater but the same thing happens. Someone asked about this earlier in the post but didn't get a reply, any help is appreciated.

But everytime I look in said file, I see it right there plain as day. So why isn't ACE2 starting and why am i getting this message?

Unintsall uptadr snd then remove schönyan to your win7 account name ,just try Daniel.Maybe that non english letter "ö" could cause problem.Teh insatll and run it again.

Hmmm. Open up the old thread and do a thread search, I believe there's an answer there for you. It may be in the FAQ on the DH site as well. I'm pretty sure this problem has been discussed in the past, can't remember the solution though.

IIRC the userconfig folder is in the ACE folder after the first download, put it in your main arma folder and you should be fine. IIRC, that is...:o

There are two ace_clientside_config.hpp files.are you sure you are checking the real one ?
@<hidden>/Userconfig/ace_clientside_config.hpp wrong one (this knid of backup)
Arma 2 root/userconfig/Ace/ace_clientside_config.hpp true directory.

Which updater? The updater most of us use to DL the Mod and keep up to date. Check the first post if you don't know what I'm talking about.
Can you confirm the location of the ace_clientside_config.hpp. Are you looking at the .hpp file in the @<hidden> folder? Or the other location?(The userconfig folder in the main A2 directory.) As snakedoctor34 there's two of them.

The issue seems to be that it cannot find the default addon that defines CAData. This is ca.pbo located in the ArmA 2\Addons folder.
Either your "Start in" setting of your shortcut is invalid, or the mentioned file is missing or corrupt, please restore the proper version in that case.

Having a strange problem since last update.
getting kicked from our server for wrong signature files
for CBA common and arrays pbo's.
Now I know server files are up to date and I know Im up
to date, after countless deletions and re-installs.
has anyone come across this problem and is there a solution?

Don't use that one, use A.C.E. Mod preset.
Since the official ArmA 2 1.05 is out, better to use that than 1.04/5 beta :P

Fixed it, it was indeed missing the default Addon directory, on reflection I must of deleted it when un-installing a sound mod. Reinstalled the full game and now it works fine, thanks.

I've just updated to the v195, and still having two minor glitches:
1. The tail rotor still not slicing me up. Actually it does no damage at all to any infantry.
2. The IR strobes can't be seen on the HuntIR monitor in any mode.

They new ones are "CBA_Test2.bikey", "ACE_Test2.bikey", "ACEX_Test2.bikey", ""ACEX_PLA_Test2.bikey" and "ACEX_SM_Test2.bikey", whereas the old ones were called "*_Test.bikey"

thanks, but the provided link (Version 4.5) hasent changed anythings, still the same issue persists
But I figured somethings out with my Problem. As my screenshot (http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1526091&postcount=191)says so a Errormessage (or whatever it soposed to be) appears: Errno:ENOENT. This is visible in the quite small part of a second where the three lines are visible in the disappearing DOS Window. Googling for it told me a lot of crap I dont understand cause it has somethings to do with servers and clients and other crap..:confused::confused:..
May be one of you guys have an idea what it is soposed to be.
EDIT:
Creating a new ticket don´t (yet) make any sense cause I dont have any Configuration files not speaking of logfiles. I checked the path where they actually should be located, but I dont have such a file in my AppData/Roaming directory. So the whole Installation process seems to be wrong. Any Ideas about that?
EDIT2:
I renamed my Computer to a Name without a Space and without ö. But problem still persisits. Six-updater Folder will still not beeing created in AppData/Roaming directory.
