Conversion of Ivans OFP unit by Gnat
Retextured again by eddyD
Includes Aircraft Tug

Notes
- READ THE README before whining !
- Kuznetsov is not up to ArmAII quality expectations, it needs lots more work, but is functional enough and the community probably needs it.
- Note that "assemby it at sea" script is not as effective as the ArmA version, theres more chance bits will be out of alignment.

UPDATE: Beta 5 (June 30th 2010)
- fix several P3D files after CTD on ArmA2 1.07 patch
- improved access to Catapult actions
- added animated blast plates for catapult
- tweaked lights

HOOK / WIRE USAGE for Kuznetsov

Place your Kuznetsov and then place 2 NEW GAMELOGICS like this;

Now come is slow'ish (~250) and at deck height and the "wire" should grab you. If you're too fast or too high (>2meters) the wire won't wash enough speed off and you'll over-shoot.
Once you touch the deck you need to be "de-accelerating" *(Z key etc) hard until you stop ..... unless you start to over shoot *:tounge2:

To place stuff on the Deck
Place this in the INIT field of the object.

this setPosASL [getposASL this select 0, getposASL this select 1, 17];

Supossedly he was going to release them this week too. At least that's what he wrote in the Mando Missiles WIP thread a couple of days ago. I hope he releases upgraded versions soon. I have ported the frigates and the subs from Arma to Arma 2 but there are a couple of errors that I cannot solve


And Gnat, good work!!!. Now we can do a USN vs Morskoy flot scenario.

A carrier has an enormously long wake that you can use to line up with. Would there be any way with a texture, persistent particles or such to make one for your addon?

Oh, I agree. But I was speaking about the 'meaningful feature' side of things. If there was a simple wake texture 1-2 km long, not visible in the closer LOD's (maybe getting more and more transparent as you get to the closer LOD's), one could use it BVR to line up, instead of the usual "Where is it? Am I close? Ah crap! it's way over there!" approach method :p

That is, until we get the HUD and A-G radar functioning.. :D

Just use Mando Missile and create a named location and it will appear as 3D marker in the HUD's navigation mode.

In fact you might create 3 or 4 locs there to form a line of 2km or more. So, you simply fly to align these marks on HUD and they will drive you directly to the carrier's deck.

Really good job, gnat. PS i think it would be a good idea to add a catapult, as i'm having trouble launching A10's and SU25's off the deck, even from behind the rearmost launch position (hell, they're nearly falling off the deck from where i launch them!) The ramp helps, but...

Lol, when that happens, gun it and come around to try and land again, US Navy calls it "Touch & go". Wrong, yes, but it works :p

nah, you're good. As in part one of my mega post, i've been launching and landing A10's, F35's, AV8B's the previous two in VTOL, YES F16's, and i even tried a C130, didn't turn out well, LOL :D

Awesome!!! I had small hopes of ever seeing animated blast plates, just brilliant!!!
I have toyed with the previous version a little in the editor but never got it to work in my own mission for some reason (muppets kept falling in the water/ troug the boat), i guess i should just try harder :).

In your p3d I think you can have points/vertexes in your Resolution LODs, but not ONLY points.
There has to be some faces or shapes also in the Res LOD.
Or it has to be empty.
Named or unnamed I don't think matters. My Res LODs had "Component01" for some points (just by accident) and I also deleted this, but again, I don't think that was the problem. The problem seem to be a Res LOD with ONLY points/vertexes and no faces.

That's simply not the point. It's not what you say, but how you say it.
Don't you realize that people create addons in their (often scarce) sparetime just for fun without getting anything for it? It takes a lot of time. And noone forces you to use it. You guys are free to create an addon yourselves.

About this addon - newermind, i dont need this carrier so much, i can use BIS carrier for missions. But if this addon will be good, i will use it. Today - it not so good as i need, so... So it unuseless for me. It imho.

The point of the matter is it doesn't really matter what you/we think, considering you/we didn't make this addon. If you want a "better looking" carrier, i suggest you make your own.

I'm grateful we even have a Kunzetsov CV in game. I don't care if the textures are bad, I still use them because it just "works" and that's what I want.

i work and contact with most quality studios like RHS (OTK, Sarmat, ORCS..,). So, if i really need some addon, i can just ask people to make it.

Have you EVER tried ANY of Gnat's work. Are you a complete and total idiot? Gnat makes stuff that's amazing. He only brought the Kuznetsov to A2 because, while people may have requested it, he wanted to see it as well. (I think that's right.)

If your going to talk shit about the Kuznetsov, then you'll have to insult a good portion of the aircraft addons, some of the major mods, and plenty of others that use OFP stuff.

I don't need this addon now.
I haven't missions in development which can be need this ship.
My posts here - just a wish to the author to work better and improve his work. If he want it.
As by the current moment - quality does not at ArmA2 level.

haha, i was just having a discussion with a friend how you released a crap addon with a even crappier screenshot and you got hundreds of comments "wow, downloading now, can't wait to test".

Now if you put hundreds of hours into something, making it top notch and post it there is like lynch mob trying to come up with most bugs and stuff.

Its like the "American Idol".. everyone thinks its cool to trash talk stuff.

I put some Zu-23 on the deck and tower whit west soldiers and they keep shooting at the ship(empty), is there a way to stop them from shooting the ship

I think you can create a Blufor higher rank AI and then group the ship with the Blufor.

Guess people keep missing that rule about bringing up old post.

To answer your question place the carrier and then group it to a us soldier and set his probability of presence to zero. Now the carrier will be on your side and AI will not shoot it.

Gnat, there's someone in ChinaVME forum already announced that he did used your Kuznetsov and Su-33 mods to re-textured as Varvag and J-15. Even did make a short video demonstration.

Hey, will you ever retexture the Carrier? Seems a bit on the dark side in its original format. Your Su-33 can use some updates you added to your other planes, like an opening canopy. Folding wings would also be a nice upgrade. Seeing as the Nimitz and Meatball's F-18 is comming along quite nicely, the Kuznetsov and the SU-33's need to get ready....LOL

I think the PLA VME owes you some free textures anyway.... :)

Mando may need to add the Tug into the MMA Rearm vehicles list.

At least you will get something, Towing tractor will be by default a rearming source for MMA, so just add some of them on the carrier's deck ;)

Gnat are you going to port Admiral Kuznetsov, su-33, ka-27 to ArmA3? Since both maps are Islands and there is diving I think navy could play a big role in A3.
