Sweet!
It's about time we had a map w/ two countries on it!
(had to resort to splitting Chernarus in two!)

I prefer the map of the World or Europe .... :)))

MaxRiga: Terra is too big project right now (not to mention that we would need new object packs), I'm fully busy with Isla Duala after the release of Panthera v2.31.
New details: Isla Duala is bigger than Panthera, around 56km2 of mainly desert, savannah and jungle areas. Its very similiar to OFP's Tonal regarding the vegetation and setup. Old Tonal users will find themselves in familiar areas, but of course layout will be different and objects up to date with current technology ;)
Isla Duala will be primarily intended for:
- anti-terrorist coop operations when you have one active FOB
- brand new TvT gamemode where two leaders have to take care of their country (North or South) and both can declare war or peace. Your platoons have to patrol border and report back if enemy is gathering troops in certain sector so leader can send in reinforcements. Although 56km2 sounds small at least 50 players would be needed for that kind of TvT mission ;) Side wins when they control enemy's Capitol Town and have in control theirs.
- typical Domination/Warfare scenario
I saw the picture,I already know that this will be another must have, just look at the hotspots...this slovenian boy is a dragon...
---------- Post added at 02:08 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:07 AM ----------
and a little exclusive info about the jungle?

Man i want your babies  well maybe virtual babies haha :yay:
The word Tonal and In Arma2 fourm makes me burst for more information :P !!!
I wish you good luck!! and will watch this thread! :p

any pics of the demil'd zone?
what about the airports? will they be dirt? concrete?
Thanks for all your hard work you share with us IceBreakr. You kick ass man. :)
Screens seem to show a very very nice island.

you do another island, so maybe on this island you can do war-zone ?
something like Kolguyev was, some area of destroyed cities, ruins etc.
it would give "there is real war" atmosphere "D not only peacefully and good conditions

Looking GREAT so far IceBreakr!
I haven't seen Tonal in a long time, but I remember...
Little shantytowns with corrugated iron huts...
Piles of old tires...
BIG Grass! - like - shoulderhigh elephant grass... (just looked like ordinary grass but Really Big - theres a couple of clutters that look similar - maybe they can be scaled up?))
A quite big town that was all sortof rundown and crumbling - once probably quite nice tenement/apartment buildings with balconies people RPG'd you from as you drove past in the street below.... quite Mogadishu-esque...
Swampy areas where you were ankledeep in water but still surrounded by jungle - just deep enough to make going prone a Bad Idea (the AI didn't behave well in those areas sometimes tho)... Sometimes there were deeper areas - you could boat thru the jungle like a mangrove swamp almost, and it was all misty and confusing - with those wierd unidentified jungle ambient sounds...
BIG Sunsets! - really awesome purplesky ones... (dunno how effective setting the lat long settings in the island config to equatorial would help there??)

Will try to recreate some areas, but as far as I've been looking Tonal is missing a lot of details that is possible to do in A2 now ;)
Mangroves and jungle is already on the map, mainly E part of map and there are streams that you can traverse with small boats.

but you say about destroy of all objects, but look at such thing :
http://ofp.gamepark.cz/_hosted/vilas/screens/wyspa4.jpg
from OFP, so can such border war zone is possible ?
cause all destroyed buidlings in Arma will be small heap of bricks, and war-zone will be flat
is such thing on border would be possible ?
cheers guys will repost later with some screenie..
love the idea Ice
Unless im missing something Scopey mate, proberly best to start your own thread and share you hard workings there rather than using Ice's one.
hi IceBreakr just a short one from me as you mentioned before it will be mostly Desert mixed in with abit of Jungle, how will the changing geography of the two interwine i.e. will it be normal desert upto a point then straight into different kind of follidge?, i only ask because i am a big fan of panthera, and i noticed a rather ubrupted change in scenery when it went from 'green' land to more deserty. It may not seem a really important question i can understand just something i can bare in-mind when doing using it.
Regards, Jeza
...
Not to put you down, but 25x25? :butbut: are you sure you want to go with something THAT big?
Largest City on the west coast. it will be an island with 4 bridges from the main island.
Bridges in Arma with the current AI pathfinding are a bit of a mess.. Anyway, good luck with your project ;) But i think you should start with something "little" ( assuming that is your first map )
Oh yeah you should open your own thread for your projects. :)
can we have some pics of the cities?
IceBreakr
Nov 8 2009, 09:23
Jezaa: well, oasis will have ubrupt change, forest will pass to savannah first (bushes, grass) then thick jungle.
Aelin: will post 'em when they're done, at least capital two ones.

Beautiful work IceBreakr, looking forward to creating very large scenarios on this island! Keep it up!
I am really waiting for this new supreme work..my fantasy is flying through duala's skies looking for.....places to put in triggers to blow up the tension at the border...
Man that's really starting to look good. Like Pantheras I think we've got another masterpiece on our hands.

Nov 23 2009, 22:09
Guys, I'm seeking a helping hand. I would need someone to make:
- smaller FOBs & camps
- road checkpoint areas
- fortifications on hills
Nothing fancy, just empty areas so we can put down - no details needed, mainly only walls and couple of buildings (depots, hangars etc) - details will be done by mission makers so I need really clean stuff, with empty space to put down vehicles, crates etc - nothing fancy.
I need these "templates" in blank Visitor3 PEW file so I can copy&paste them to the map when I'm wrapping up the settlements phase of this project. Only official Arma2 objects may be used!
List of required stuff: (*DONE* = already complete!)
- 4 airports (2 major, 2 makeshift) *DONE*
- standard armybase
- road block checkpoint 1 (small)
- road block checkpoint 2 (big)
- fuel depot
- training camp
- border watch camp
- ammo storage
- ammo depot big
- border tank bunker wide
- aa site
- jungle cammo hidden camp
- tank factory
- heliport
p.s. size of bases shouldn't be bigger than 150m-200m, since island is 10x10km. I'm looking for nice African feel to it ;)
Anyone? Please assist if you have cool ideas, making of these doesnt take long and your assistance would considerably speed up the release of this island (first in beta state). Thank you.
NZX's M1151 loves the water ;)

Hopefully I'll have alpha done by Thursday (err tommorow), terrain is complete: rocky desert that slowly passes to savannah. Bigger slopes all feature high res textures of rocks and on East (as on Tonal) you can find a thick jungle. Greatest addition to my island is Berghoff's outstanding work on vegatation, Africa really comes to Arma 2 with it ;) I just got sick and tired of all the promises on African islands (even going back to A1) and decided to make one myself.
I'll post a pic or two after my team makes an alpha test. Don't worry, I won't let you down folks ;)

I think the map would suite armor too, great to finally see pictures of this ever-getting-better looking map! Like I once mentioned before, I absolutely like to break through a heavy fortified border, or atleast what a missionmaker is free to place around the border.
Good luck finishing this splendid project to all who have a part in finishing the final product!

When this is done I will be creating some missions , might even group them in a campaign, to losely recreate the activities of executive outcomes in sierra leone in 1995 using schnaps desert mercs addon.

Some kinda sweetness there. since i'm not too swift at making missions, but bend others work to my will, may do a BE warfare port to it. a version of Zonekiller's battlefield2 may be nice here as well.
Nice, ill defo be making missions for this too, loved Tonal so i will definitely love this.

Update:
- I'll do alpha testing with my boys at 2100 CET
- redid satellite textures to be 20% more hi-res
- added more grassy patches and a jungle/marsh section on East
- putt together more outpost/depot/town/village templates to be used later
- drawing plans of big towns based on real Africa counterparts (various countries)
- two large airports while still checking out location to put down 2 dirt-strip ones
- making rivers passable with humvees on couple of places
- added smaller islands that will feature villages and thick jungles.
Hopefully I can enter beta stage soon and share the work with you. Of course I'll listen and add/change stuff according to good ideas you fellas have :)
this might or might not be usefull.
I know a site which has alot of photo's of a particular town in Congo (drc not brazzeville) called stanleyville which was the site of heavy fighting during the congo crisis with it being overrun by simba rebels, belgian paratroopers..etc
the problem is that the site is in french and it can be pretty difficult to find suitable pictures but if you look closely you can find alot about the buildings and layout of the town during the period right in front of and during the dekolonisation.
http://www.stanleyville.be/
see what you can do with it and if you have questions regarding the site or the congo crisis just ask
IceBreakr

p.s. your nick means "tits" in Slovenian ;)
well my nick is derived from the a rather old dutch name "jos" with the diminutive -ke behind it.
but there are also slavic language names that sound ridiculous in dutch, like i once heard about an immigrant from the eastern block called "lulzec kakzec" or something which means in dutch something like dick-zec shit-zec.
it is time to ask for african guerrilla troops!

Update:
- 2 days work on new textures, now soil is more red/terra-rossa (Sierra Leone like) and features a new additional texture of dried our soil.
- couple of trees will soon get their missing collision models
- made ~50% templates of FOBs, outposts, police stations and other facilities
- done sketches of both major capitol towns
Please help out complete this new map by supplying me with any photos of bases and other kind of facilities from Africa that I try to recreate.

Aelin: well I'll use non-entrable buildings so its a challenge to create a big city with realistic areas (marketplaces, commercial areas, industrial zone etc.). If anyone can give me tips on how to create realistic powerlines with powerstations I would be really grateful.
I got a help with templates today (bases, stations, outposts) so that will surely speed up the process of making. I'll have new internal version ready soon and as soon as we reach beta state I'll make it public for you to shred it apart but for mostly to give feedback on what you would like to get fixed in final release :)

Aelin: well I'll use non-entrable buildings so its a challenge to create a big city with realistic areas (marketplaces, commercial areas, industrial zone etc.).
So you ain't gonna use entrable buildings at all or did i missunderstand you?
to shape your power lines, you shoudnt worry about building power lines inside towns, most towns who dont have there own power plant have a transitor station, and in most cases this is located on the edge of town, and the town itself is then suplied trough underground lines.
on a bigger level your power lines should originate from a power plant and to the transitor stations at the edges of different towns.
the route these powerlines take depends, they can either take the direct route which would be trough the countryside, this is mostly used for the bigger powerlines.
secondly you can also build them along a road, although this is mostly used for small powerlines and telephone wires.

JW Custom: there will be both, but I'll have to use A1 assets (South Sahrani like).
joske: I know how stuff goes in RL, but I wonder how to build that in engine. I guess I would have to put down could of powerlines and set wires on correct height and they use copy/paste/rotate?

IceBreakr
Dec 4 2009, 06:54
Update:
- road networks completed, one highway, asphalted narrow road reaching major towns (12) and muddy paths to all rural places.
- completed library of South Sahrani buildings to use for all major towns
- further improved the object template system based on real images from various regions of Africa
- two makeshift runways done
Although it doesn't remind me of Africa to 100%, this is for sure
the best african-theme based map around for a long while.

Looking forward to flying over Isla Duala soon Icebreakr - been watching this with baited breath - any ETA yet?
IceBreakr
Dec 8 2009, 00:32
No ETA yet bfalcon, I'm populating the world with templates that me and my team-buddy El Diablo did. Its a big project and I'll release public beta as soon as I'm happy with it. Beta will already feature full road network, all major towns (12), villages, outposts, farms and 4 airport (2 paved, 2 dirt).
One comparision for Uglyboy and all of OFP fans:
http://www.vojak.si/photos/lorengua.jpg
http://www.vojak.si/photos/larenga.jpg
Bear in mind that this is *only* a tribute to old classic Tonal, no other areas will be re-done, although some might look similiar (jungle marsh). Isla Duala is a completely new map with everything made up from scratch.

Dec 8 2009, 09:42
Like that look although the first one looks
More african due the red white buildings
and "block" placement.
But good work
IceBreakr
Dec 8 2009, 10:08
Janowich: you actually gave me good idea, I'll repaint some of the buildings today ;)
Uglyboy: of course.
Icebreakr: No probs... it sounds a large job and it'll be worth the wait, I'm sure.
With Arrowhead, you'll have a bunch of units suitable for the map too, which should be good too, even though they probably won't arrive at the same time, it'll still be good.
And yeah, a repaint would possibly look better on that town, but it does look awesome.
Love the design of the map too, btw.
Just one request: decent sized airports for the paved - the chernerus ones are annoying when trying to taxi the herc around (the fix looks too fake when you see it turn). And no trees or buildings within wing-reach of the centre of the taxi-way... that's another thing I hate about the BIS airports/LHD. You'll make friends with so many pilots with that and your already awesome-looking scenery. :)
IceBreakr
Dec 9 2009, 11:30
Well, airports cannot be made huge just because BIS can't fix a simple config variable (turn radius on C130 is FUBAR since 1.00). Airports are clear of hills at both ends and vegetation is cut out.
Flags for both countries are done:
Molatian: (North, Pro-Russian)
http://www.vojak.si/duala/flag_molatia.jpg
Afrenian (South, Pro-American):
http://www.vojak.si/duala/flag_afrene.jpg
Excellent, thanks IceBreakr... just do what you can for us pilots and we'll appreciate it, believe me.
Nice work on the flags too.

Story goes something like this: Duala split up and gear of South Afrene marks progress/development and industrial advance. Since South part (Afrene) did did majority of the work and supported the laziness of Northern part in once one country a war broke out in 90s. Conflicts between corrupted North and hard working South took more than 10 years, bringing both countries in one huge crisis with many lives lost. Afrene took the old flag and added a sword to it - symbol of defense of their industry, technology.
Things normalized in 2000 after peace agreement and it took almost another decade to rebuild both countries on Duala. Duala is now split at major river with a buffer zone, outposts are set along the border with high fence and walls dividing Afrene and Molatia. Buffer zone is still littered with war remains and not much else.
Molatia and Afrene recieved substantial international help soon after drills struck into rich deposits of oil in Dualan sea near outer islands. North (Molatians) are spending a lot on new military stuff coming mostly from Russia. Their flag still contains symbols of hatred toward the south (blades) and consider Southern neightbours as traitors. Molatia might soon try to regain power of entire Isla Duala, so Afrene is worried that new conflict may arise. Afrene biggest strength is industry & export and recently they even found diamonds in Eastern Jungle open mines. Business is booming but their military power is still weak. USA and EU is now cooperating with Afrene government and their special forces are training Afrenian soldiers in several camps. New US military equipment is arriving to Kinsella International airport on regular basis, but Molatia on the other side is cooperating with Russia and their wealth is often exchanged for brand new tanks and weaponry.

So there a mission that reflects the Island's story IceBreakr? sounds sweet. this has brought up a couple of questions for me concerning a warfare port:
- will the border area be traversable by ai or will it be all walled off?
- the outer islands you mentioned - obviously will need to use 1 or 2 small rocks as temp respawn points but would love to have several islands out there to make into rich strategically relavent capture points. its very practical now with Benny's "supply by time" parameter.
@<hidden> - looking forward to it!
Thanks

Dec 9 2009, 17:52
Well, river is all along the border, so AI will of course have trouble moving over it. Fence is open at couple of points with army huts and bunkers guarding these spots. I will try to check this border issues with my squadbuddies tommorow.
We will all test it out in public beta and see what can be fixed for the final v1.0. Island is suitable for both: PvAI COOP or PvP missions.

rivers shouldnt be a problem if there are some ground level crossing points. been having a blast with warfare on sbrodj which has crosing points that dont seem to give ai squads too much trouble. chain link fencing seems to cause ai infantry squad confusion even with holes (at least on sbrodj). training object "climb over" placed along fence helped out in this case. ready to give the beta a whirl to see.
Are there gonna be any presidential palaces/villas so coups can be done.
Also nice to include a backstory, although its a bit too much good vs evil particularly if you are recreating a country in Africa. And it would be nice if it would be backed up by a mission/campaign.

Will there be any militias ice? Like mad half military half civi dressed guys with maybe caps and rag tag gear? Executive outcomes was hired by the SL goverment to put down the RUF attempt at staging a coup and they recaptured the diamond mines and drove the RUF underground with precision operations and sweep and clear of insurgents deep in the jungle and hiding in villages. They stole the initiative off the RUF and eventually defeeated them. Ill be using schnaps mercs for this role with BIS GUE BMP2's and CDF Mi-24 and Mi-8 Choppers in support as executive outcomes had armour and air wings

Internal beta test is complete. SBP Team is very happy with v0.8 and we'll be polishing it for the next couple of days so you can enjoy it too.
Since FDF showed so much of their island (heh) we decided to share 28 shots of this "pre-release" test version from tonight's squadnight. 6 hours of playing 4 MP-Coop missions passed quickly, we did a talk too and we wrote down couple of cool ideas.

Well...
Firstly thanks loads to IceBreakr for sending me an advance pre-beta copy of this island which I've only just got around to checking out properly...
Its great! - the little shacks, the stratified cliffs, the coastline and waterway, the seacolour tint, the trees (a refreshing change), the ground texture...
Less good... the clutter maybe, lush stuff could be even lusher - dry areas maybe the occasional well placed dry looking bush, as I believe was mentioned, a few more named settlements, nail the airport down to a final location...
One small error - flying over Kishna...
"Cannot load texture ibr\ibr_dtowns\data\dum_mesto2_jih2_nohq.paa"
All the other small niggles are just that - stuff that isn't finalised yet...
Certainly no other major problems encountered - great FPS as you would expect - even on the ground... it's all looking Very promising!
As promised, I've already dragged over the latest version of basic Domination to this island - it all works so far (even the Yoruba music clip :) ) - so as soon as the Airbase positioning, etc is finalised and I sort out a list of targets I'll finish that off - I'll also take a look at Xeno's "Two Teams" version of Domination - see what differences there are internally, coz I think this map might be ideal for a Two Tribes version...
I'll see what Frankie Says... ;)
Excellent job all round IceBreakr!!

New stuff:
- island will *maybe* feature a new music by my friend, musician... I hope he's listening to Hans Zimmer Barra Barra a lot :)
- airports are finished, two of them are now dirt, without any asphalt/concrete with only couple of shacks nearby and a fuel station.
- bunch of trash added to streets, its a dirty country now :)

Excellent news m8 - I needn't have bothered to send you that last PM then :)
Nice to see the AI using the crossing points too - I tried them last night and they worked a treat even in a landrover, so should be good.
I think one thing I do like about your map is that there's lots of room to make mission-specific installations, such as military camps, without it looking cluttered... keep it up. :)
I especially like the news about the dirt runways - I think they'll look especially good if they're the ones I think they are (ie the smuggler strips)... that'll suit them perfectly.

Hi IceBreakr,
just curious if a beta release is still on track for this week or do i have to stick myself in the eye with a sharp instrument?
IceBreakr
Dec 16 2009, 18:37
I guess I'll have to remove that "no pets and people were injured during the production of this island" from readme.txt :o
Gutm@<hidden>: I'm working hard... tommorow is another closed beta test (~16 players) with added towns.
Absolute priorities are:
- increase both main FOBs and add road paths from the main one
- complete all 12 towns
- add several small villages, farms
- add details (mostly trash) to towns
- add marsh on SouthEast area
- add rocks on road curves
- add bulldozers, signs, rubble mounds to end of unfinished roads
- add more border outposts
- fix ground at towns so there is no high grass
- add "vegetation walls" to some villages to block view, only couple of entrances
- add Schnell(tm) fuelstations (3 south, 3 north)
- recheck config for proper ground sounds (sand, grass etc.)
What do you think Gutm@<hidden>, can we pull it off in few days time? =)
Luckly object templates are 90% done, but I also make new ones from Africa resource database I've collected, A1 Sahrani photos (mostly Southern part) and by watching/flying over OFP's Tonal. Oh and from Marines TDGs collected over the years ;)
One more question: should we add Molatian Army (infantry & T-55s) to the Island itself or as a stand-alone?
Gutm@sher
Dec 16 2009, 18:43
lol! I've decided to get on with poking myself in the eye! thanks IceBreakr!
This project is just too sweet. It looks like this map will become a must-have, a complete classic that's going to be sitting in everyones arma2 folder. :)
Awesome progress pics IceBreakr, I'm loving how you manage to add so many wanted stuff into a single terrain project and still it doesn't look overdone or stupid.
Darkhorse 1-6
Dec 16 2009, 20:37
IMO you should release it together at first and then later release the Molatian army as a stand alone.
I'd prefer a standalone version as well, since I was planning on using CDF militia/pilots/officer/crewmen as government troops and NAPA rebels as, well, rebels. All they need are black faces and you're good to go. Add in a bit o' ACE (M60's, FALs and M79's) and you got yourself a wicked little african adventure!
The BIS models are surprisingly versatile. Civilians are another matter altogether tho, haven't really figured out how to solve that one yet.
Maybe just use the blue targets that BIS provided for us, and call it abstract art...
Oh, by the way Mr. Icebreakr, is SBP planning some sort of inaugurational special activity night, like the one you guys had on Ohau(?) back in the day (and where you got soundly pooned, I might add :D )?
Those were the days.
IceBreakr

Hund: Shabazz is working on Molatian troops, currently they are using good old AK47s, but G3/FN FAL might be a good choice. He also changed the camo-pattern so it suits more to Dualan countryside.
All big towns now feature slums and CQB clearing of them might be damn hard and long process. And other stuff like pre-war resorts are also progressing nicely:
http://www.file.si/files/g6106y86yhebhrm3xbhh.jpg
About that special event. I can organize that but I would like to host it on a very capable server, so we get at least around 50-100 players? Anyone willing to set one up please PM me. Pooned = heh, we loved it anyway, to bad AI guards didn't shoot back due to a bug ;) :P
Yeah I saw some pictures of those around.
The reason for using already existing models with a slight config job would primarilly be the size and easy implementation into ACE, which we use now. However if your man gets around to creating some civilians (after all, what african conflict doesn't have at least a bit of genocide), I'd be very interested indeed.
On the topic of a possible african adventures night, I'll talk to the boys.

Just thought I'd drop by and praise this project a little more! :)
I've been privileged to receive yet another beta version of Duala from IceBreakr, and I just have to say it's progressed ENORMOUSLY!
I'm a terrain maker myself (sortof.;)) so I have a tendency to be VERY picky about islands, tearing apart the mechanics, thinking "hmmm... you cheated there... you missed that bit", etc. Frequently with user islands, especially with Betas, it's hard to get past the "viewing the machinery" stage and actually start believing in the terrain as an actual landscape. This is made doubly difficult when the terrain-maker has chosen to represent a completely fictitious landscape.... Nature is hard to imitate!
Duala is starting to mature past that initial "quick - get all the basic components in place!" stage and the "little touches" are starting to become apparent... and it's the little things that push a manufactured terrain over the edge into believability... look at any BIS or FDF island and you'll see what I mean.
With some good beta feedback, and some extended fine-tuning this island has the potential to become a classic terrain!
Anyway - thanks again to IceBreaker for the sneak preview! We've had about 2 feet of snow in 24 hours here in Scotland, so I've been sidetracked mightily - digging out the car, the dog, the house. the neighbours! (and also some rushing around the fields with a camera photographing snow on trees and bushes) :) - However, I'm now officially on holiday (yay!) So I can now devote the evening to porting a basic Domination for Duala - so I'll shut up and get on with it - since I believe the beta release is due VERY soon! :D

Tell me about it... I got to see the 0.8 beta, but not the later ones, and believe me, it's worth the wait from what I saw there...
From what he's added since, it sounds like it's even better. :yay:
Truly one of the classics, I think.
Uh, well, the longer the wait, the more I´ll enjoy this masterpiece once the public beta is released. :p
Yes the wait will definitely be worth it so don't rush the man.
As Bushlurker has already said, IceBreakr has really paid attention to detail. The towns are great and will allow for all out street fights and CQB in some of the shanty sections. The map really caters for mission makers and there are plenty of little spots on the map that will really assist with story lines if you are so inclined. After testing this I wish I was 100% with the editor as everywhere I travel new story for a campaign comes into my head.
It truly is a great map.
Keep up the good work IceBreakr.
Merry Christmas to all.

Teleportation is the new thing Cole. Everybody is doing it these days!
I am flying myself. AMA offered a deal I couldn't refuse. I may get there a bit later than everybody else but atleast I wont have fingers on my face and eyes on my hands. Not to mention a "certain" body part sticking out of the back of my head.
Teleportation may be faster but it certainly ain't safer. Unless you count the not getting shot down my MIGs.

you do another island, so maybe on this island you can do war-zone ?
something like Kolguyev was, some area of destroyed cities, ruins etc.
it would give "there is real war" atmosphere "D not only peacefully and good conditions
i think this would make sense for the demilitarized zone landscape.

Meant "by migs". Also all flights going into the country are flown by AMA, Aeroflot, or Letoun Velkopopovicky AN-2 Aircraft until suitable replacements can be bought. So MIGs are a real threat. :D

Ill be doing a HALO jump into country once everyone is arriving, because i've already been running covert operations around Duala. I can assure all of you that no problems will occur when you arrive if you have your paperwork in check.
Ouch Darkhorse, I think I could live with eyeballs on my hands but having a certain body part sticking out of the back of my head.. HELL NO!
Black1ron mentioned a nice thing - HALO. That's right, jumping down at night might actually be the best idea. I don't think many of the local soldiers are equipped with nightvision :)

Guys, tommorow is the day we board C130s and go to Duala :)
Today I'm making final touches to towns of Kinsella, Orellan and Kingala.
Molatia will finally get their main airport with new army FOB.
I'll try to add a training camp in v1.0 (won't be included in this public beta v0.99). It is in the remote desert area valley, "SBP Camp Noobia" will be very useful for C/Os of squads, all facilities available for drill and fire practices based on Dslyecxi's manual.

ISLA DUALA FOR ARMA 2
Version: v0.99 "public beta"
Release Date: December 30th, 2009
1. INTRODUCTION
===============
El Diablo, IceBreakr and Tourist board of Afrene are inviting all of you to visit a paradise on Earth - Isla Duala. Tropical forests, sandy beaches, wild savannah, clear water and... nasty neighbouring Republic of Molatia threatening to overrun friendly Republic Afrene in Southern part of Duala.
Current peace can be very decieving. Marks of previous decade-long war can be seen even today and no-man zone still divides both countries with high fence running all along the border. Only few of the natives dare to travel across. With recent diamond and oil findings in Molatia their war machine is growing, too. European and US peacekeeping forces are currently present on Afrene in small numbers, but this might change very soon. Russia and China are in close business ties with Molatia and Afrene is mainly providing services for US and European tourists. War between Molatia and Afrene might be just around the corner...
Project took exactly two months to reach beta v0.99. Many many hours went into it. Consider this as a present to the greatest gaming community ever and a tribute to BIS that is supporting us and for all their dedication!

WHAT IS DUALA?
==============
Duala is a fictional ~56km2 (10x10km map) big island, divided into two waring countries: Afrene on South and Molatia on North. River divides the two countries with a buffer-zone/border in between, monitored by international peacekeepers.
* Vegetation
African vegetation can be seen everywhere: towns, savannah, desert and jungle. Duala is pretty dry land, but some areas near water feature lush forests. Savannah covers most of the land, while sand and mud is around river beds and beaches. There are no large hills, rare feature rock formations. Guys travelling savannah will find shelter from the sun under acacia trees. Some water rich areas feature thick undergrowth with large datepalm trees and other palms and bushes.
* Military installations
Biggest strategic importance in both countries have airports. There are two major ones used for military and also civilian traffic. Two more are dirt runways (NW Molatia and SE Afrene) and used mainly by small planes. There's a word that drugs and weapons are shipped in and out of the country this way.
* Border & Buffer zone
Afrene didn't build fence wall, but Molatia constructed it all along the border marking their territory they gained in 10-year war. After peace treaty Afrene and Molatia build couple of outposts along the border. There's no confirmation on mine fields, but in decade long war a lot of them were placed and later removed by international mine clearing teams. Afrene built a wall around a border town on East in order to stop Molatian terrorists travelling around. Both sides also have powerful air radars covering most valleys. Afrene set up a heliport near border to stop smuggling operations. Molatia uses helicopters stationed far North in safe cover of thick jungle. There is a rumor that jungle outposts also house Russian instructors training local troops, but there is no official word on that.
* Settlements and towns
Both Afrene and Molatia have capitol towns: Kinsella and Balabango. Slums can be found in both, majority of people living on Duala are very poor. Smaller towns feature markets, industrial compounds, rent houses, offices, etc. All towns and villages are marked on map.
* Sightseeing tips
We don't want to give out info, because we want you to explore! Rent a car from airports or travel in old An-2 to see all the places and pick out favourite spots! There is a nice lake in central Molatia and almost all seaside towns rent out villas. Special adventure is going into jungle on SE part of island where old villages are located. Be extra careful on roads: many of them are in terrible condition and accident can be just around the corner! Its a pretty bad thing when you smash up your vehicle and there is a big desert between you and a nearest town. Therefor military uses mostly UH1 and Mi-17 transport choppers. Foot patrols are only way in jungle, but car convoys can be great in vast savannah. Be sure to keep eye on gas meter since travelling around whole island can empty it up pretty fast. But don't worry, gas stations can be found near all big towns.
* Mission possibilities
Hopefully players of OFP Tonal will switch to Arma 2 to enjoy our new African themed island. It allows mission makers to perform a huge variety of scenarios on it.
Hopefully someone will make use of a new Arma2 patch 1.05 mode Diplomacy to make a war between two countries and maybe even throw in a third rebel side.
