Yo!

I was just going through my stuff on a machine I have and found that I still have the .3ds and .p3d file for the Aliens Colonial Marines Dropship, the UD-4L Cheyenne.

I also have the SR-71 in .3ds and as far as I can see I have the B2 Spirit. Well, I have tonnes more .3ds's but didn't get round to converting them to .p3d.

If anyone should want them, maybe to bring them to life, I'd rather that be the case than me attempting to and then getting too distracted with other commitments.

Just let me know how I can get them on here and I will :D

Phew, I didn't know it was that easy!!!! Like I said, I don't really have time anymore. Unless its teaching my 5y.o daughter to fly in Arma.

Ok so I have uploaded a few for now until I get back from work later. Then I may sift out the crap ones.

EDIT - Before I forget, These are not my own models (if you haven't already guessed!) I probably did spend a hell of a lot of time getting them from free sites and converting them to a format that could be converted into a format that would be imported by O2. Just so you know.

Well there you go for now. I hope they inspire people with more time and more skills to bring them into Arma/Arma II. I just can't remember where I got them from but they seem to be all over the place!

I have had to remove 2 of these due to copyright problems.

There's way too many polys. I tried to reduce them as much as I could but there were still too many.

How many is too many? I vote it gets made anyway.

over 20,000. lol

Norsu
Sep 9 2009, 10:30
That shouldn't be too much unless they are all 4 sided polygons. It's the tri count that really matters and 20k tris is still very acceptable :). I think BIS A10 has almost 20k tris too.

Sep 10 2009, 04:44
Ah! Well thats some good news. I heard that it wouldn't be able to handle over 20k. And just think.....Arma 1 has the Colonial Marines and the APC addon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hope someone can do something with it!

I remember, and I do keep going on about it to friends, an addon in OFP. I think it was OWP MI- something. It was a big mother that you could drive a vehicle into and lock it into place, fly about and then take it out. You could even sit in the vehicle as it flew. The only problem the addon had was the wheels of the vehicle rolled as if it was driving.

Now with that, can you imagine a dropship starting a mission @<hidden> flyinheight2000, a trigger activating a Marine saying "I gotta bad feeling about this drop" and near to landing, another from the dropship pilot "Coming around for a 7-0-9er". Tres cool!

Thank you Sir! That Aliens UD-4L Utility Dropship is one wicked cool stuff, we've been waiting for it since 2002 OFP release!
Vilas: choppy chop, finish up your addon :)

Vilas was doing a drop ship for Operation Flashpoint. But its now a dead addon I think.

Here is something for you to c*m in your pants for....

I have the addon for the apc somewhere but I think its only for Arma 1. I searched for it on Armedassault.info but they have taken it off. Luckily I have Vilas's Aliens APC (inc USCM+plasma weapons) on my external drive if you want me to post it. But like I said, Its only for Arma 1.

He brought out the Pulse Rifles, APC, Squaddies and Smartguns over a week or two back mate. If you check his thread in the completed stuff board, you'll find it there!

Good god, I want this drop ship done. NOW! :bounce3:

So. Many. Missiles... :yay:

I implore the community to get somebody to get this done, and right. Maybe after Fortran gets done with his F-117, I'd be willing to wait. Seriously, Fortran, Please.

So... is anybody interested in making this?

I think its more of the case of just waiting for someone to release a beta now. don't think anyone will hold their hand up and say "Yeah, I'll make it". I'm sure given some time it'll be brought to life.

Can't someone contact guys from OFP where they already have a functioning model? I even saw that movie from multiplayer when they load the APC and take off :) and OFP is not much different to A1/A2 as you would think :)

I remember emailing him ages ago and seemed like he wasn't too bothered about bringing it out. Which is a shame but its not he first time someone will feel like that. For example, our lovely Gnat has loads of aircraft that he's not releasing, but just using for his own devices....

Have you got the link to the multiplayer one? I'd love to see that!

I don't think it was from Multiplayer. I think it was just a WiP taster for the old USCM Mod or Project Alien, one of the two.
Anywhere, here it is again. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8au-P3J_roY

Whenever this gets churned out someone needs to liase with Vilas to make sure his APC will fit inside!

Sometimes it not as easy as just releasing stuff, currently my HD I have 20 jets converted to Arma2 in various states and 60 for arma1 (same condition).

Now it doesn't for one second mean that I can release them, as

a) I have to get permissions for each one I want to release (mostly obtained)

In most cases the models I use are from OFP and the authors either do not reply (most of these were made like 5 years ago) or won't allow a release (rare but has happened).

b) the community expects a certain level of quality in the 'free' addons, hell if they weren't so fussy I could release 5 jets by the end of the week :)

The amount of work just converting from arma1 to arms2 is actually quite high hence why I haven't released anything other than the F1 Ferrari and Kiowa.

For example from memory the F35 or F15 I converted for arma1 both had in the region of 2500 lines of cfg coding each.

I do almost all this work alone except for the textures and some scripts.

You will see addons just not as quick as we all would like :)

It still would be a lot quicker to get the working OFP addon and convert it.

Isn't it all just swings and roundabouts thought? I mean, starting a new addon for arma / arma II and having to change all the configs and LODS from the old one? They'd both probably take just as much time as each other.

I'm not too sure. I remember that there was a lot of scripting involved so wouldn't that need to all be rejigged to work with ArmA 2?

I have some OFP conversion still using to some degree the OFP scripts, they just need tweaking in most cases.

From experience, I can get a OFP addon jet working in Arma1 in about 10 mins, just the basics, to bring that upto release standard might take 15/20 hours.

Arma2 release standard would be higher and take more time.

For me personally an OFP converion would be easier.

Don't get me wrong Elbe mate, I understand what your saying. But getting our paws on the OFP one would be a challenge seen as they never released it, and the guys who were involved in the old project Alien mod went quiet a long time ago. :(

Or... we could just use this model, add animations and write up some code... :j:

I'm sure that SOMEBODY is up to the challenge, considering ArmA 2 code is "supposed to be easier that ArmA 1's" from what I hear. Granted, there is probably a lot of code involved regardless. I've also noticed that the parts of the model are nicely partitioned, I imagine that it would make adding animations easier.

Getting the APC to stick to the dropship should be a lot easier now, it could be done using the attachto command...

Sep 22 2009, 00:17
Indeed. This is going to come together nicely, the attach-to command just seals the deal and adds some icing and a cherry to top it off. :yay:

Threads older than 4 months should not be dug up unless something significant is being added. If in doubt as to what is "significant", contact a moderator and they will give you their opinion. As always old threads will remain open or be closed at the moderator's discretion. Digging up an old thread simply to ask "any news" is also not acceptable, PM the thread starter or mod leader to ask.

If there are any news about this project, don't you think they would be posted here asap?
