Although I was disappointed with the end. I want to start playing multiplayer. Can anyone clearly tell me how to do this?

Know this:

I am playing the coldwar crisis out of the box, I bought it sometime like 4 months ago.

I have not upgraded ANYTHING or registered online or ANYTHING.

I am computer illetarate. I don't know crap about bytes and bits and zip codes or anything.

Can someone explain how to start playing online? Clearly, like what buttons to push and what not.

get the "all seeing eye program". Trust me its a hell of a lot better than gamespy. (for me atleast). Ask around for i, im not sure where i got it. That or run a search for it on Yahoo or something.

If you bought the US version of the game, it should say "1.20" in the top of the main screen when u come into the game.
If not, it says "1.00"

This is what u do:

If u have 1.00, upgrade to 1.20.

Then u upgrade to 1.30

The you upgrade to 1.46
You can find all the patches on one of the links above.

If you currently have 1.20, u just upgrade to 1.30 and then 1.46.

Fire, ICQ is like you AIM but ICQ allows you to send and receive files or share them.

You cold war crisis should have you patched to 1.30. Go here http://www.flashpoint1985.com/index2.html and download the .46 patch and you will be good to go.

Ok. I started the game and it said "version 1.20".

I guess I will download the next versions. But when I download them, do I have to install them too? And then where do I put them? I don&#39;t want to put them in the wrong place&#33;

It doesn&#39;t matter where you download them, just open the zip and double click the exe, it will find your installation.

after patching to 1.3 you should have new weapons like G36, Steyr and XMS. if you want to check them, goto mission editor, and place yourself by double clicking anywhere on map. when the choice comes up, under rank, there should be &#39;type&#39; or something like that. scroll down, and you&#39;ll see &#39;Soldier(XMS)&#39; and so forth.

and make sure you are in advanced mod in mission editor. on top right, if it says beginner, click beginner and it should change. to &#39;advanced&#39;

What is the mission editor? Is it hard? I don&#39;t want to accidentially mess up my game.

OK, I downloaded it. Then I told it to extract it. I did that.

Then I went into the game and nothing happened. It still says that it&#39;s 1.20.

I don&#39;t get it. What should I have done? Should I go and delete the thing that I downoaded?

goto the folder that you extracted patches in.

in there, ther should be a file calles OFP_Patch_V130(or something like that) the icon should be that of OFP shortcut on your desk top(the Soviet union flag)

double - click it, and it&#39;ll patch your OFP.

mission editor is what you have in OFP. it&#39;s not gonna screw your PC/OFP up. when you start OFP, you see the picture/animation of cars, right? on top left is your name, and there is one horizontal line and vertical line on the screen.
on the bottom lefft isde, there should be s phrase called, &#39;mission editor&#39;

click on it, and you&#39;ll be given choices of 4 islands. choose any one of them.. then you see some maps of an area.

there is a simple tutorial on how to use this.
Start->Programms->Codemasters->operation flashpoint->readme

You have to run the .exe file.
If it did not do that automatically, find the extracted file and doubleckick it (make sure you have the Operation Flashpoint cd in you cd&#39;rom drive), a box should come up saying "Upgrading to version 1.30". It doesn&#39;t take long.

The Mission Editor is a really nice toy, that wont fuck up your game in any way. You can use it to make your own missions, play around with the weapons and units, and last but not least: Sightseeing&#33;
Open up Mission Editor, start a new map on any island you prefer (Deert Island is not so interesting http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard301/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ) place a unit soldier and an empty chopper or HMVVV or whatever.
Hit Preveiw and you&#39;r free to look around the beautiful island of your choice.
If you do as Wiggum says, and set it to Advanced, you can change the timeof day, weather conditions etc.

Where are my new weapons though? I went back into the campaign but couln&#39;t see the streyer or what not.

And I played battlefields. In it I used the M-16. I went into weapon mode. Where are the optical sights?

Another thing that is weird. I played battlefields and I saw all these green lazerss being shot around. What the heck are these?

This game is supposed to be realistic? Are one of the new guns some futuristic sort of lazer rifle?

Those are tracers.
You can turn them off in your options.

In order to use the new weapons, you have to play a mission that includes them. Check some of the fansites for missions to play, or join a server through ASE, if you did download that...

Load up the Mission Editor and have fun. Place yourself as different kinds of soldiers to get to know the weapons and vehicles...

tracers are bullets with some paints (i guess) that emits reflected lights as it is fired. by this way, you can see where you are firing, and so can your buddies.

so think it as bullet leaving it&#39;s trace so that you can see where it&#39;s flying at.

Ok, I got into a multuplayer game.

But I don&#39;t understand some things.

How do I change my name? I don&#39;t like being "Default".

What do those first pages mean? I don&#39;t know about them. Before the game starts.

When I actually did play, that was strange. The leader didn&#39;t give me any orders. But everyone was a chopper pilot.

We all had XM&#39;s.

Everyone was boarding a plane. Not big ones. But those civilian ones. So I did too. And I followed everyone in the air.

Eventually we got to some place. And I didn&#39;t know what I was supposed to do. And I lost sight of all my freindly planes. I saw some red dots on the ground and started shooting at them. Soon, I sustained heavy damage and I ejected.

When I hit the ground, I was injured and could not walk. I was also confused because I didn&#39;t know where I was.

As I tried to crawl somewhere, someone came up behind me and shot me. I breifly saw him and he was a pilot too.

Then I got disconnected. Is that what is supposed to happen when you die?

Ok, I figured out how to change my name.

Now, I was playing for a while. Capture the flag I think it was called. And it was complete meyhem. No organization what so ever.

I expected human players to be more organized than the AI in campaigns&#33; All I heard was explosions and saw people running around all over. I expected to be under the command of a leader who would organize our attacks or defence.

Everyone was doing their own thing. Very disapointing. I guess Capture the flag is like that. Any suggestions? Maybe there are other styles of online play that are not like Capture the flag? Like one where you have a specific goal? Are there any like that? Because if there is, I would love to play it online with someone.

errm, the problem you had, wasn&#39;t really a problem.
You will have to find a server with serious players
connected, to get an organized game. For example,
if you want to use the web to chat with some people
outta your house, and you choose a chatroom with
11 or 12 year old boyz&#39;n girlz, you would never get
a serious conversation up running. (you got me?)
I&#39;m in a squad, where i know all the buddy&#39;s, i&#39;m playing
with. We prefer the same style of playing ofp, and we do
this organized (most of the time).
I suggest to you, head out for a clan, or find a couple
of players, where you know, they&#39;d prefer your favourite
style of playing too.

Ice Fire, you were kind of in a bad situation on Fraghaus&#39;s server. Guys they dont know they put together, and so usually there is a high number of newbies playing together, and some of them can be jackasses. however, if you continue playing on Fraghaus and get to know all the regs, you will learn the ropes of multiplayer gaming. I just played a mission on Multiplayer last night that I was actually very pleased with. it was called "saving private ryan".

There was a strong chain of command and there were like 5 players under a leaders command. We were in boats, and when we beached we had to raid the beach and take an objective.

When I joined, I didn&#39;t know what was going on because it didn&#39;t give me chanceto pick a position or even review the breifing.

So as soon as I got into the game, I was confused. To make things worse, I was #1. The lead,and they were all asking me for orders. So after a little bit of confusion, I managed to explain that I didn&#39;t know what was going on and they explained it to me hastely before the boat got to the beach.

There were hundreds of other AI good guys beaching too and it was like all hell broke loose. But it was a good mission because most of my men followed orders. 1 or 2 went astray and got killled, but the ones who stayed with me, we got a little far. After we all dies, due mainly to the fact that I was not properly prepared and the whole thing went so fast. We did it again and we got farther.

We stayed prone and crawled and constantly checked our horizon killing anyone that we could see. And kept on moving that way. I was emphasizing that we maintain formation and not get split up because there were so many enmies in that mission. If everyone always followed orders, we would have gotten real far. Anyways, I prefer to be a soldier. But I think I am pretty good at leading.
