Units for ARMA2 by SchnapsdroSel

This Addon will add several Desert Mercenaries, Woodland Mercenaries, Winter SpecOps,
BlackOps, Navy Seals, Desert Special Forces, US Army Soldiers, Pilots and Insurgents.

These look pretty awesome. I love setting up stealthy infiltrate/kill missions in the editor. These guys will look a lot better than Force Recon.

awesome! is it just me or is the merc guard (the one with the red beret and small xm8) wearing ACU camo??

is it possible to make a FR assault rifleman and grenadier with the ACU in place of the MARPAT? that would be really amazing! :yay:

To have the special forces helmet for your player you have to select it from the glasses menu in the player profile

is it possible to give yourself the helmet worn by the assault grenadier/rifleman? you know the tan one with the goggles on top. i see it's used by some of the models but it's not one of the scripting options.

well what im really trying to do is this:
in the 1st pic you can see the USMC unarmed soldier model is the same as the merc guard except for the camo.

the goal is to have the assault rifleman model use the camo of the merc guard essentially creating a (not very accurate) US army soldier, until dedicated army dudes are made.

Well, i made a quick test in the editor, But could not find any unit with the sf helmet. I checked all units in these cathegories Bluefor/Mercen../Desert & Black, but found nothing... Do i have some kind of "broken" version or am I blind as usual? :D

EDIT: Now i understand the sf thingy, The glasses menu :D Brilliant, Sorry for bothering

please outsource cfgModels and cfgSkeletons to a model.cfg (part of binarization job)

aaaaaweeeeesome. just what i wished for. there are around 24 different classes (though the black ops all look almost alike but still, different stock weapons) and love them very very much. thank u so maaachooo :)

one thing i wish would be the case - if the mercs and black ops could also be on both sides. not just the USMC.
i thought about fighting against the mercs or blacOps and i can't do that as marines, as far as i can tell. am i wrong?

if the mercs and BlackOps where "independant" (not USMC or OPFOR) so i can set who they are friendly to than that would be amazing....

If you wanted to fight the Blackops/Mercs as the Marines, here's what you do:

Set up your group of Blackops and Marines. Now, take a high-ranking OPFOR unit like a Colonel, higher than any of the Blackops.

When you are setting up things such as the skill level, there is a slider for "probability of prescence." Lower it to 0%.

Group the OPFOR unit with the Blackops so that the OPFOR guy is the Blackops group leader.

Now, when you start the mission, the OPFOR guy won't be there due to the 0% probability, but the Blackops will function as an OPFOR unit.

ummm.... im really new to mods and i barely play MP so i need to ask this out of noobness -

what does this mean? what is that file?
i know that the KEY is for MP so its available online, but im not sure what these files are, what's the difference between the files on the OP and the files here and what are they good for...

Updated the replacement (http://oac.arma-creations.com/download/misc/oac_r_fr_and_usmc_inf_bb_mercs_desert.7z) - changes:

* Split into USMC, FR and team razor.
* Split into BlackOps and Desert Mercenaries for each of the above.

Make sure to only have one for each type group active.

Schnapsdrosel can you pretty please release an update ASAP that is binarized (and
signed). Otherwise the access of RPT messages make it unusable during testing. :(

Tested replacement and signed addon on our server, no problems whatsoever. Pretty safe to say it´s MP compatible.

PS: updated replacement file because schnapsdrosel found one of my famous 0300-fuckups, just a minor fix. Same link as before, but version 1.1 now.

It's in the updated version (see download first page)... the unit is called rifleman

Well you can already have BlackOps with different Balaclava wear

Select the BlackOp (Operator), put

this setFace "merc_face2";

in the init, and there it is!
But I don't know if that's the "classic Balaclava wear" you were referring to...:rolleyes:

The soldier now has a greenish/tan looking helmet clipping through the black one.
It either does not work properly or I'm making an obvious mistake.

The same thing goes for other combos, whatever was supposed to show is clipping through the regular gear.

thats because it doesnt replace the units headgear.

So it only will look ok on a unit that has either no headgear or headgear that is smaller than the protec helmet which is pretty hard to find as the protec is tiny already.

i love blackops guys really great work i use thems always when i want to make urban fight mission or something but a litle sugestion the blackops should have more variaty like no helmet and only a mask with 1 hole, gas mask, cars yeah that would be really awesome those kind of cars like mercedes with machineguns in the back of the car :P nah this is really awesome

You can safely assume thatr this will also be done by defining it as glasses so you should be able to use them like the other headgear on the older units.

That's right, you will be able to set the gas mask using the setidentity command, but it only works on units that have either a helmet or no head gear, otherwise there will be clipping errors :mad:

You know what wouldnt be amiss, a mercenary with no head gear and generic weapons and a generic name such as, Operator, or something, so people could kit them out changing hats, faces etc, without the model wearing 2 hats or people being unable to put caps on people because they already have helmets and look stupid.

Gas masks are a perfect addition!

@<hidden> Stagler: The m1014 and Sniper, and i think the SD guys don't have helmets or balaclava, so there's something for you :)
however, i only ever use the blackops guys, so i'm not sure about desert.

Also you could make some tan colored masks for desert mercenaries, all it takes is changing the gas mask's black parts to tan and you have a perfect mask for both desert AND woodlands!

Aye i know they do, and its the same 2 classes for the desert ones that dont have helmets, but it would be good to have a generic operator class as the sniper for desert mercs has a bandana that sticks out of his hat and also when you dont want an entire team all labelled sniper but with different weapons. I think it would be a good idea to put this in tbh, but its an idea never the less.

It will cast a shadow, if you put a shadow model in the .p3d and since the jaw isn't moving down as far as it was in Arma1 when speaking there are no clipping errors.
The only problem that occurs is when you use NVgoggles the glasses/masks/whatever will disappear…

I think the duplicated class error stems from this area of code in cfgvehicles:

Could you post a screenshot of the menu error? Cause I don't have any errors, everything works fine for me... Some of the units look similar to the Arma2 insurgents since the are just reskins, but they should look like this:

Ok, now I understand, the reason for that is that I gave the class the display name "Insurgents", but I don't know why you don't get the list of the Gangstas/Terrorists/Taliban. They should display at least in one of the Insurgents classes?!

The problem now is that the OPFOR Insurgent list is duplicated, so I'm getting two lists with the same content. Like so:

I would suggest putting the terrorist and Taliban ones together. I'm basically saying that because not every single Talibany wears a turban.. and all the terrorist guys have Middle Eastern faces.. which doesn't seem right.

Also there is a cloned insurgent list on the opfor side.

Very nice units, definitely a keeper.

Have the same "problem" as Safetycatch (2 Insurgent classes).

Another thing I have in the rpt since the addon is installed:

Can't think of any other reason as I haven't seen these before. No big problem though but while you're working on the config... :whistle:

Oh yes and pistols in the holsters would be nice, too.

Yes, I know about that error, it's the only one that I wasn't able to fix.
But it's an error I have even noticed without using any external addons,
so I guess it must be an Arma2 error. If anyone knows how to fix this,
please let me know. As for the pistol holsters, I don't know if this can
be solved by scripts only, but I think I would at least need the
unbinarized mlods to add pistol proxies to the holsters...

Well, the problem was, that CAA1 overwrites the SoldierGB preferences.
Not only for Arma2 but also for my addon...
I had the Taliban/Gangstas attached to SoldierGB,
I changed it to SoldierWB and the problem was resolved.


Some thoughts:

* Please separate model from textures from config. Makes updating less huge.
* Please separate the different model types to various addons (pbos).

You are using the hex editor to repath the texture path right?
I recommend you to look into moveObject from mikero.
It makes repathing a child's play. :)

If you want the gas mask/visor for your own player you have to select
it in the profile where you choose the glasses for your player.
You will also find the balaclavas there in you face selection.

Guess you need to wait for a looong time then as i doubt there will be more than the released soldier and head.

Only reason why BIS released so much for ArmA was because they were under pressure beceause of the amount of hacked models that were released before by one guy.

And they made sure that this guy doesnt release more of that stuff afaik.

Yes there are class names, the are required. Place them in the editor, save your mission, and open the mission.sqm file and read it. Or if you need, I can post them here, unless Schnapsdrosel wishes to.

If you use the replacement+the addon and the server allows custom addons or these are signed then yes.

If u just use the addon then no cause a mission/gamemode can only be played with the units it was created with. Thats the reason of replacement, to be able to substitute the original BI soldiers with the one u want.

Extracting the file i get a 183MB one or 191,894,038 bytes

Ok, it was the filefront link. FTP1, it didn't even extract here with an error an the file was 88MB as the error u had.

The other one worked fine, not sure why u didn't try it :D

Anyways both links are the same now.

Sometimes when I die as a blackop (sd) I get an error Picture \#(argb,8,8,3)color(1,1,1,1) not found. I have side respawn so not sure if that has anything to do with it. It doesn't always happen either, I can die 10 times in a row on a fresh arma2 load and not see it.

in combat/"the field" these days, you don’t need to be an expert to
know that...
I made them on request and published these screenshots only to show
them of, I think at least the 2 people that requested these will find some
use for the berets.
You will be able to choose to wear/don't wear them
in the faces selection glasses menu. With that said,
I hope you will allow me to keep them... :rolleyes:

With all the lapses in realism that are inherent in any game, does one beret really make a difference? In any case the vast majority of people using this are going to be using it in the editor, or in missions made in the editor in which case if the inclusion of a unit with a beret terminally offends you or breaks the game's immersion (you know, more than the AI walking through walls) then nobody is pointing a gun at your head and forcing you to use it.

At the end of the day if you don't like it, make your own addon... with blackjack, and hookers. (with apologies to Futurama). ;)

I personally am all for having additional variety in the headgear department. :D

Man I'm looking forward to the next release of this. Bring on more SF dudes with beards!

Did I say anything about releasing it? I've ripped apart and customized tons of addons along with about half of this community. You must not know much about addons. I don't have to know how to model, I have people to do it for me. :)

Enough with the flamebaiting now and back on topic which is about Schnapsdrosels units he decides what they wear and what not. He wants one with a beret fine - if you can't live with the fact ignore the model or the addon at all and move on.

I don't know yet, where would you put it?

For the SF pack, i would say that the most appropriate thing would be the FR models using a mix of woodland camo, desert camo, ACU, and multicam. something along those lines. i guess i would lean towards SF for that pic based on the camo and cap. the reference photos from a couple pages back are kinda what im talking about. but its totally up to you :)

Well good luck getting the pack modified, if it ever actually happens.
As for that second part, I fail to see its relevance considering you can't model anything for yourself. And the fact that you've been in the community longer doesn't do you any favours, I have only 8 posts yet I have been actively modelling and actually have a release which I made as I learned how to model. So yeah, 8 posts and 2 months playing Arma2 and I've progressed more in the addon community than you have in about 2 years.

Well, for the first release of the SF pack I'm only planing to use multicam and acu and maybe tri color desert camo, but I might put in some more camo versions in further releases...

and put this code in the units init:

and if you want some variation you could also use:

for the SF pack are you planning on doing some mixed camo? as in tri color desert pants and ACU top etc? maybe same for woodland, like the old US woodland pattern mixed with multicam or ACU to give a less uniform appearance.
