I didn't assassinate him, and my mission bugged out after I captured all 4 towns and now I can't progress to the next mission... but I think that happens if you do assassinate him as well.

I killed him and it worked for me.

i killed him, conquered the four towns, rescued the village, but am stuck in limbo because the conquer territory objective is refusing to admit that all four towns are conquered.
