I don't want to be out of line here, but it seems that a couple of the sound modders focusing on the specific things, this guy on tracked vehicles, RH has his air vehicles. . . Could it not be joined together into one single sound mod seeing as these guys already have their area they are working in? And to emphasize, I'm not telling you what to do, just floating the idea out there....

<ON TOPIC>

I am downloading it right now, and will try it out with my speakers and headphones and tell you my opinion. It's been about a year since I've heard abrams roll past me, but I'll give it my best shot. :D

Hope you´ve as much fun playing as i had making it. :D

@<hidden> nikita320106
current plan is to eventually improve on it, depending on user input (especially those who operated the respective vehicles), and new raw material becoming available. For a new project wheeled vehicles are also on the roadmap.

Congratulations my friend superb work !

I'm really chuffed with this, it sounds awesome my only 'issue' if thats what you could call it is that you've used OGG. format, which is open to compression. Have you considered using WSS. format its a direct conversion of WAV. which as you know is raw an uncompressed. If your interested mate I have a good OGG/WAV/LIP/WSS convertor, it would take about 5 minutes to convert them over and re pbo. To be honest, most people probly wouldn't notice but I figure you maybe interested in trying it out for yourself :)

Other than that, which is tiny tiny tiny thing, this rocks my world.

A pint on me if your ever verture to Coventry :)

EDIT:
A link to the conversion software I use
http://www.ofpec.com/ed_depot/index.php?action=details&id=178&game=OFP

Btw, It was made for good ol' OFP, but despite some peoples issues using 'older' software this is a fantastic bit of kit for us sound modders. Every single HiFi sound has been through my copy an I've never had an issue :)

Cheers Mark! :D I´ll get back to your offer - even though the british are barbarians when it comes to beer culture. :D

Yepp, i tried both, .wss and .wav. For .wss conversion i used a tool called wssdec.exe with custom batch conversion. I still have all files as .wav format sitting my HDD, size is about 75mb vs. 17mb (.ogg). Imho using .wss/.wav instead of .ogg didn't yield a noticeable increase of sound quality, but your mileage may vary of coarse. If there's a request it wouldn't be a huge effort doing also a .wss/.wav package.

Wss is best engine wise. This alone might not be noticeable, yet it can add up.
In low fps situations you may hear a difference.

Jul 6 2009, 12:39
Ahh cool mate, I tried that wssdec myself along time ago and found soundlab just abit better for me I guess. Glad to see you've tried the formats too. As regards to the OGG format I tend to hear it distorting will high volume low end sound. But again this is myself playing with the volume set to 'stupid' :)

Like I said before, its not a big issue for me matey, after all most of HiFi has been packed down to 22khz at finalization so the size/quality thing is always a challenge. I recall people losing entire soundscapes when playing with my 1st release all because I wanted both 44khz SR and Uncompressed WSS files, the result was a massive memory hit since some of the smallarms alone weighed in at over 1mb each. Which by todays standards isn't much but when you consider the size of BIS games and the amount of units etc it soon hits home how much it hammers the system. hehehe I learnt my lesson back then..Smaller is better :)

These days I'm happy if A2 loads after I've made something for it ;)

Anyways mate, Great stuff and thanks for the quick reply

What I've heard so far is excellent, thank you for your work.

Are you interested to make it compatible to other sound packs?
Would love to see this and RH's chopper sounds modularised as you've proposed but locking the thread and linking instead to a totally empty page on dev-heaven isn't exactly promoting your (otherwise excellent) mST initiative.

I really like the M1a1 sound, very impressive! But doesn't it seem odd that the tank gun is quieter than the engine running lol ? Did you not mess with the main gun sound at all? If not ok, I can understand it being off. And also I was wondering did you modify ALL tracked vehicles?

Jul 6 2009, 18:12
Excellent high quality sounds! :) Very well done.

Guessing either its my crappy Audigy2 but the volume or range as you stated makes it crack up a bit. ARMA2 seems to do that by its own though when loud/too much happens and the sounds "crackles". Noticed also the turret sound if used long enough will have a hearable "loop end". That is easy fixable though.

All in all - Super high quality and well done work! Thanks.

Just tried the mod out. Absolutely top class work TangoRomeo. You can almost smell the diesel!

Its safe to say that the bar has been raised on the sound front. Couple this with RH's helo mod and we are already two giant steps forward to the soundscape from heaven :)

Thanks again!

Thanks all, but if i had not come up with it, someone else would have. Just browsing through the mods section, makes me positive on that. :cool:

@<hidden>

of coarse i am, it's just that i´m not very good with the scripting thing. This was a real time-thief. I just realized that it's one thing having release-quality samples, and actually making them sound "ok" ingame. :D

Realy great work. Best Tank Sound Mod i have ever heard. Hope you will continue working on the wheeled vehicles.
One note: I think the Extern Turbine Engine Sound for the M1A1(2) is a bit too loud ?! Also if i compare it to the t72 or t90.
(which is the right numer for changing the volume in the *.cpp?)

Jul 6 2009, 21:52
nice work TangoRomeo,
but i found a little but, the engine off sound oudside the T72 dont work.

in my soundmod @<hidden> i add a new sound in the tracked confic.
class EngineOut {
sound[] = {"\eliassound\vehicle\misc\kettensound.wss", 2.50, 0.90, 300};
frequency = "(randomizer*0.05+0.8)*rpm";
volume = "engineOn*camPos*(rpm factor[0.4, 0.9])";
};
(macht richtig schönes ketten quitschen und vor allem ketten klopfen)

have a look at my config.
when you whant, you can take the soundfile frome this folder eliassound\vehicle\misc\kettensound.wss. when its good enough fore you.

(ansonnsten tipp topp)
nice work.

Here is a fixed config:
http://dump.no/files/2d875320982c/TRSM_c_Tracked_Vehicles_config.7z

ToDo:
1) Put this config in a folder called TRSM_c_Tracked_Vehicles.
2) Pack to PBO.
3) Rename TRSM_Tracked_Vehicles to TRSM_s_Tracked_Vehicles.
4) Unpack TRSM_s_Tracked_Vehicles.
5) Remove the config.
6) Repack TRSM_s_Tracked_Vehicles.

TangoRomeo - Do you intend to make modular config addons for the sounds
you gather and tweak or allow others to?

PS:
Sound test missions for tanks, helos and planes available (http://dev-heaven.net/news/show/112).

also

You mean modular in terms of Dwardens description? Yes.
Since atm i lack extended knowledge in the config editing department, i don't see a point in disallowing others to improve it config-wise.

One Question. (i already asked )

How can i adjust the volume for the sounds? Or wich is the right number in the cfg to change. For examble the ext engine sound for the M1A1/2.
We often play with Teamspeak and especially the M1 is a bit to loud outside. OThers are ok :)
Thx

Jul 12 2009, 09:48
Steelhawk,

for exterior sound;

class Sounds : Sounds {
class Engine : Engine {
sound[] = {"\TRSM_Tracked_Vehicles\Antrieb\MBT-Turbine-Ext-Engine.ogg", 2, 1.0, 1000};
frequency = "0.80+(0.20*rpm)";
volume = "1.5*engineOn*camPos*(rpm factor[0.3, 1.5])";
cone[] = {1.2, 2.8, 1.8, 1.3};
};

Either try changing 1.5 to a lower value, or delete it. If it's still too loud for your taste you can also try decreasing the max range the sound is audible at.

I know how to sign a mod, but I will never sign someone else's work that is just bad practice. In my eyes it's as bad as those that port someone else's mod without permission.

Then you don't understand what the key/signature system is. What it isn't is a claim to ownership, rather it is an approved-for-use (on your server) mechanism.

you only need the key on server in ArmA\Keys directory

the bisign must be placed on client together with pbos

I´ll look into this. Peak volume for both samples is -4dB. To have ~ continous RMS power for engine sounds i used a multi-band limiter plugin. Config (.cpp) wise similar settings are used for volume also. If i´m playing the master .wav files on my setup via the sound editor or winamp, i do not notice any audible clipping. Ingame, it's almost the same, difference being the addition of processing added by the sound engine. I have EAX and HW acc. disabled in Arma² (running Vista). Going to experiment with sample volume a bit, and upload a new version.

Somebody give this man a cigar.

These sounds are awesome, only complaint I have is how deafening they can be for people inside the vehicles at time like if you turn out. It ruins communication for them. If there was some way the sound level for the crew could be lowered that would be awesome.

Other than that, this is a superb job and is just plain epic at times.

Also, awesome job on the Abrams, many sound mods and game devs forget the fact that it uses a gas turbine rather than a standard engine and give it a horrible sound.

I use this mod as standard. First tank sound mod which I feel doesnt need to be polished or modified in any way. Great job!

Have to agree on that. This Soundmod is just great and even more if you have a good Subwoofer

Apparently FileFactory is too busy to accommodate my download.
So here's a proper mirror:

Doesn´t matter, just upload it! I wish TR would make a proper OA Version.....I dunno,can i upload it to this forum,advise a good file hosting pls.Fix is signed,but signature is my,not TangoRomeo's.It's just sounds,made by TangoRomeo,which i've add to bradley(sound of engine-default,sound of trucks-from AAVP7),M113(BMP-2's sounds,M113 have a very similar sounds) and T-55(T-34 sounds).Sounds of bradley's trucks isn't quite realistic,maybe i'll make it myself later
