I'd imagine so. If you get shot in the head and it's not considered serious, then the game has some major problems.

Glad to see VME is continuing work in ArmA 2, this was one of my favorite mods in OFP and was disappointed that we didn't get a release in ArmA 1.

Hello every one! It’s been a while we didn’t update news for VME PLA mod.

Du to some reason, the schedule of VME PLA mod development has to pull back, but we are still working hard on it!

Recently we have finalized some of our infantry weapons, and they will be used for testing or single mission demos, the following are some images of them, on next press, we will have some heavy equipment such as fighter bomber, MBT, IFV, and so on. These weapons’ are remodeled and retextured.

Also we hope more friends who are interested in making mods will join our team, and share our enjoyment on mod development.

The equipment on the images are:

Type 95 5.8mm Assault Rifle
Type 95 5.8mm Squad Automatic Rifle
Type 88 5.8mm Sniper Rifle
PLA Camo Mi-17Helicopter (modified from offical model)

I know Fromz's Halfmoon and Alex.xp's VME are 2 different mods, but I cannot stress enough how intelligent it would be for both to collaborate, as they seem to have very complementary addons, both of high quality

VME :
- Attack Helicopter
- Reskinned MI17
- Main Battle Tank
- Units and guns
- Attack plane

Fromz :
- APC
- Modern Transport Helicopter.
- Jeep
- Other attack plane
- Other units...

Put the 2 together, and you have a whole set of chinese hardware. With a reskinned truck and zodiac, you'd be done...

If there ever would be same amount of stuff that you got in latest version of oFP mod, I ve would be hugely greatful. There was really enought units to full cti nation group and therefore would like to see that in A2 too. I wish your team would been enought keen to mod to this game, there really wont be any other ones where those addons would suit better. The community in asia is still too small, so some local militaries mods would certainly do some promotion. I cant wait to put China VS Japan/S korea type scenario instead old US/RUS. The quality you ve represent so far been 1st class.

Can any non-chinese person take part of ur team? I can easily read ur forum when translated.

Such one like you, ALEX XP,the MODer of OFP & ARMA &ARMA2, and of course OFP:DR , how hard bearing because of the buggist ARMA and boring ARMA2 to you, and how fantasitic looking forward to OFP:DR, you do force yourself into the never completed PLA MOD?
Come on, relax yourself! If you don't like ARMA2, why do you waste your time in ARMA2?
There is not only one group that is devoting themselfs to ARMA2 PLA MOD, and comparing to you, they do more than talking. Do you just think vme is somekind of qualified MOD group to make PLA MOD, and you were a chinese soldier, and you have promised to us that you have to complete an artwork of VME?
Oh no, don't do that stupid thing, showing us your painstaking VME PLA MOD for ARMA2, at the same time complaining that ARMA2 is boring, buggy and his physic engine is too old to recur the grandness OFP, furthermore fancy that OFP:DR shoud really be the succeeder of OFP !!!
Don't be self-deceiving any more!
If you like OFP:DR, wait for that, just leave ARMA2 firmly.
We don't want a PLA MOD for ARMA2 without sincerity.

Also, if at all possible, have the SAW have a Double-Drum (like on MG36) or single-drun (like on RPD) so it actually IS a true Light Machine Gun/Squad Automatic Weapon

Me too, as well as many others, but I'll wait for them to post their own info regarding updates, release info. I'm sure they are busy men and when they have the time and something to share they will.

I kinda agree with you. It will probably be done for me, although I really haven't touched the game for a few weeks already. But other people, for some odd reason, will still prefer DR. I'll still play it a little but no doubt I feel A2 is the better game. I like the new sig. :D :coop: :yay:

I've been here for a while now, never actually felt like posting until now but do you guys realize there is another mod that is revolved around PLA too, the ArmA 2: OHMOD, they actually got really great looking models, and i believe the people in charge are actually chinese, but not to say your stuff doesn't look good im just saying that there is another mod.

ROFL. I think Alex already knows there's another PLA mod and I suspect it won't be all that surprising to him that "the people in charge are actually chinese" :). Plenty of room for both mods, in fact as luck would have it, both are of high quality and appear quite complimentary in terms of the units realised thus far.

Thanks for the pictures bud. That is some stunning work! I gotta agree with vilas and others. After playing DR for a few weeks now, I'm looking forward to having the PLA in A2. A2 will probably completely take over my PC once again when this mod is released. Thanks for the time and effort.

I am very happy to see such time and effort being put into these mods. Cannot wait to see the release of this one (also, the Type 99 is one of my favorite MBT's out there, along with the Challenger 2 and M1A2, so definitely foaming at the mouth to get that one!)

Don't be so bloody rude. The fact is you don't know enough to know what you're looking at (namely that those latest shots are not in-game but taken in the modelling software), go look at the in-game shots of the Type 99 in the first post and tell me it doesn't look every bit as good as the ArmA 2 defaults. Finally if you want to discuss the Challenger (hopefully more politely) go do it in the Challenger thread. Honestly.

This Chinese stuff is looking really really good, its probably been asked but what will they be listed under in game? BLUFOR/OPFOR or Independant?

I think put PLA to all side(BLUFOR/OPFOR/INDEPENDENT) is very easy...

No, it is not in our plan, because S-300PMU is not a "Made in China" Weapon.

I think HQ-9 is better than S-300PMU, if we need.

Also, I have to say I don't have anything against China, not one drop of malice, but I think it's a bit of absurd to say that an aircraft carrier is purely for "defensive" purposes. I know that China doesn't plan to invade other countries, but an aircraft carrier is not a defensive asset in nature, but I understand that they want to keep up with the other local- and superpowers.

As Banderas said, a Carrier can be either defensive or offensive. If its carrying just 1 jet fighter/bomber with just 1 cruise missile ...... its offensive.

I love the new models/textures in this mod. They are very well done.

I do have a rather large gripe and that is that the configs need a lot of re-working. The Jet has a GAU-8 on it for example.

Keep it up though and this can easily be one of the best mods out there.

Will you be adding a voice pack to your mod? I realise it is a lot of work, (perhaps Fromz will give permission to use his pack?) but I'm sure you'll agree it adds a lot of atmosphere to playing as a Chinese soldier.

Yes the release on the VME forums was quite buggy for me, some of the .pbo files did not work for me, but i got the vehicle pbos and use this mod frequently. When bugs are sorted out, this will be a great mod.
2 questions though.
Will this mod be ACE compatable?
Are you going to put moving parts on the weapons? Some of the machine guns have ammo belts that dont move when you fire the weapon. But it is looking very good an I am anticipating the release:)

Will this mod have officers? When I say officers, I don't just mean riflemen with different names, I mean distinctive uniforms as well?

Also I think a nice idea would be to follow what BIS has done since OA, and include 'light' and 'off-duty' personal. I always think this is a great touch. :)

Maybe some boyd armour could be added to some units like in the project 85 mod. China is currenlty looking into a new body armour system, based on the protector line of armour but with many of the interceptors traits as well. The hard armour plate will likely be made of aluminum oxide ceramic or ballistics steel though rather than boron carbide.

May I suggest including both armour piercing and ball [standard] rounds. Penetration against walls and vehicles would not need to be added, but its effectiveness [for now damage] against people with body armour will be better.
Also, as you know, I am working on a ammunition and body armour simulation project, could you please tell me what ammunition will be included in this mod/ ammunition planned for this mod. For example if VME will include both ball and armour piercing machine gun ammo, we will be able to work on both :)

First, thanks for Alex.XP and his team for bringing us this mod!

Second, I must report another error. Everytime I try to load the ZBL-09 Wheeled IFV in the editor, the Game crashes and I'm returned to the desktop immediately.
Also, some pictures in the equipment screen and loadouts are still not correct; for example the QSZ-92 Pistol has a M9 Beretta pic, and the Grenadier is armed with an AK-74 with GP25 instead of an QBZ-95 with Type 91B Grenade Launcher. But I think this is the point of having a beta :)

Again. Thank you for making this mod! :yay:

You do realize these aren't the same people right and therefore not the same mod? There is no where to update the ACEX PLA mod. It was removed cause the author didn't update it. Best bet is not to use the ACEX PLA mod cause it's probably not all that compatible anymore. Hell I don't even think it has been updated since OA came out so there is bound to be some problems...even if they aren't apparent.

If you want info about that mod than look up the thread and contact the author.

It looks like he visits the forums, was active yesterday, but he hasn't posted anything since the beginning of the year. I'd like to hear why he won't update the ACEX version.(Unless he has explained it and I missed it) It's a damn shame cause I got a whole pile of missions I made using it that I can't release.

well i just had a play around with it and i quite enjoyed it, very well made and the weapons and models are top notch. good job!

few small issues:
- a popup saying Addon ´VME_Groups´requires addon ´vem_pla_eq2050 appears when launching the game
- a few errors when spawning mechanised infantry groups which results in a few members of the squad missing

good to see a nice full army that uses neither NATO or warsaw pact weapons or vehicles for once. any plans for the future? will you include the PLAN marines with their trademark bright blue camouflage in a future release?

Thanks for your work, the OH PLA's author - Fromz is my friend. He is very busy on his job. As the same problem, our VME PLA's progress is very slow.
The MOD is still have a lots of bugs in this time, so I think it can not use of make missions.

Thank you! I really liked the Half Moon PLA mod that was out there. I was severely disappointed to see nothing happen with it. I have been dyng for a Chinese jet and anti air vehicles.
So now that you brought this mod out, it gives us a much better ability to use it. All your statics, and vehicles and camo schemes finally make the PLA something that can be taken seriously in this game.

Unfortunately BI doesn't seem to think it is important to include statics, and support features for armies they give us. It drives me insane that BI releases "Reinforcements" but don't give us FULL armies. We have to rely on U.S. warfare buildings, and most statics, for Blufor, etc...
But thanks to you and your mod we have all aspects of an army that we need (except warfare buildings). But, hey you gave us more than what BI gave us with the British addon.

I haven't had any problems so far. I put all the units in the game and no errors.

For feedback, there heads look weird. Can't explain it. And I'm not to fond of the (T) camo. Looking at pictures online, the colors are correct, but the pattern is more scattered. The halfmoon pla mod, had a pretty close pattern. In fact your (C) pattern looks more like the way the pattern is, but too heavy. I think if you just added a little more to each patch of color, it would look right.

But that's just feedback. It's close enough to play with, and it IS VERY good work. Thanks



Wait, added this later, I did find a couple issues. I couldn't find a way to get into the artillery vehicle, or whatever it's called. I couldn't get into the driver seat. just the other ones. And on the tank, I had to stand to the rear and a few feet away from the back corner in order to get into gunner or commander position. I circled around it for a while before i found the way inside. but awesome.

First things first, CONGRATULATIONS on release. Very good mod I am loving it so far :)
In this comment I am not saying VME is bad i love it so far but I would like to give some constructive critisism.

Some bugs you may or may not know about:
QSw06 pistol crashes game.


Stuff that should be added:

1. ACE mod compatability. The majority of players use ACE mod. This mod does not need to become part of ACE, although a seperate file making it ACE compatable will make life easy for both ACE and non-ACE users.
Some ACE features that will benifit players include: combat deafness, range levelling for guns and launchers, improved armor damage system (very very good makes tanks fun to use), damage done to humans and damage done to vehicles becomes seperate allowing for powerful weapons that WON'T blow up a tank if shot enough. This also will fix some bugs that are caused by VME not being compatable with ACE.

2. Ammunition needs to be worked on. For example adding sub sonic ammunition and making sure VME weapons use Chinese ammo (for example the pistol suse m9 ammo) and it would be nice but is not neccesary for ammo to have technical names. (Does not need to be DBP87 and DPB88 but something like 5.8x42mm.) For example the Chinese 50cal machine gun's ammo has the same name as the gun. Also changing the names of the vehicle mounted weapons to their correct names would be a big favour :)

These are some feature requests that are not urgent but I believe will improve the mod a lot:

1. Sounds. Custom sounds would be great and add loads more immersion to your mod. RWS (Real Warare Soundmod) is a great sound mod and its creator Konrad may be willing to help you.

2. Give Optical Snare your config files so he can include your weapons in his great mod "WarFX Blastcore". http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=111985
This mod is very good and will improve the visual effects of your mod like he has for standard BIS stuff (muzzle flashes, muzzle smoke and stuff like that).

3. Adding the type-67 II machine gun to the game would increase variety for players, but the real reason for adding the type 67 II is because it can replace the coaxil PKT machine gun on vehicles.

4. Adding the type 92 (ZSL92) APC would be nice, it is a cool vehicle and I believe it is in service.

5. Moving parts on weapons. Type 88 machine gun and the "PLA23MMGUN" have modelled ammo belts that do not move when the gun is fired. I understand that this is only a beta and this is probably already being owrked on as we speak but just incase you were un aware I thought I would let you know.

All in all great mod best of luck for the future:)

No, no, no, no, no. Ace≠cba.

Sweet mod: I always love having the option of using the PLA.

I did find that some of the units disappeared (sometimes apart from their helmets) at certain LODs. Also, once the attack helo crashed, it didn't switch to a damaged skin and the units inside went into the base rigid animation - the whole lot then became indestructible.

Is the reticule on the sniper rifle actually white in reality?

Anyway, lovely models, will be good to have some Chinese voices hopefully in the future.

No, thank you for giving us quality PLA units. Tank fix is great.

@<hidden> and desmond many large communities like shack tactical, 31st realism unit, ausarma and many more all use ACE mod primarilly, although I'll admit I was a bit quick to jump to the conclusion the majority of players use ACE, although if it becomes ACE compatable yet not part of ACE it isn't hurting anyone, but it will no doubt get much more support and hits. :)

Beside the already mentioned points, there arent many other things to complain about ;)

Some suggestions for additional content :) :

1. Maybe adding the PF-89 single-use LAW to the mod, in the same manner as ACE2 does with the M136 (ie. single use, disposable tube and a short preparing time before usage)?

2. Suggest to add an "Automatic Grenadier" to the PLA weapon squads, who are armed with the QLZ-87 35mm Auto Grenade Launcher, to complement the QLZ-04 AGL already in the mod. But in difference to the QLZ-04, the QLZ-87 should be modeled as the light version, which is portable by one man and should work just like a MG, albeit with a huge recoil that makes shooting from the hip impossible.

3. Add the QCW/QCQ-05 5.8x28mm SMG for the Special Forces/TZBD in both suppressed and unsuppressed version. Generally, a silenced QBZ-95 with Aimpoint-sights for the TZBD would be great, since the silenced pistol alone wont cut it for some missions IMO.

4. The PLA now lacks a shotgun: Maybe add the new QBS-09 (http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2011/04/26/chinas-qbs-09-semi-automatic-shotgun/) semi-auto shotgun for this purpose?

5. Maybe, and just maybe, if you can spare some resources... With a PLA 'Land-Warrior' available, there will be some awesome missions for ArmA2 being made.

This weapon is still pretty new in the PLA, but according to the speculative sources, the PLA was experimenting with 'Land Warrior'-esque projects for at least a decade. With a PLA 'Land-Warrior' available, there will be some awesome missions for ArmA2 being made.

Wow, you guys are looking for so much from the mod which is still in beta so far! I know that the additional vehicle or weapon is a good idea, and even asked for ACE version. However, they're really too busy to ongoing the mod, they're focusing on bug fixing and config changing.

I hope there's more time and support can be given to them, they're really working on it. Good luck with the mod fixing, and of course, going for new stuffs is also a good idea.

You know I think that statement used to be true until OA came out. I kept trying to us ACE but with ACE it's all or nothing. It started to feel restrictive. Now with OA backpacks, and this new First Aid Module, it's easier to play without it than with it.
Personally I didn't like them saying BI Strykers were rushed, yet their models have invisible slat armor on the inside side of the slat. And if I team switched into someone who was dying i would be stuck in limbo and have to start over.

I will miss the afterburners, but then I don't have to black out anymore.

But back to this, I like the aircraft. Has the EQ2050 thiing been fixed yet. I can't play anything when i have this mod active. Even when not using anything from the mod, when I try to revert in any game, i get the warning about the EQ2050 still.

I hate ACE as well, but a lot of people play with it meaning ACE compatablity is a must for any addon makers. vanilla arma 2 OA and ACE both have shitty medical systems, vanila being just point shoot dead, with no simulated wounds and medical treatment and ace being un-researched (come on, EPIPENs for unconscious units? What do they want to kill them faster?!?!) , half arsed and still in "need of contributers" because they woulod rather allocate their members to working on features such as shoulder tapping than improving wounds. Atleast you can kill shit in vanilla though... -.-

China just recently made the first test-flight of the V750 unmanned chopper drone, which has a decent endurance (4 hours) and a good payload for its size of 80kg, which should be enough for carrying FLIR and Laser Designator equipment.
Maybe the PLA in this mod could have it as UBL for long-range indirect HJ-10 strikes.

Well once the mod is MP compatible, I can guarantee you that plenty of missions will start being made - SP, COOP, and MP. People take much more interest in an addon that they can play in every one of these modes.

Of course! :) I am more than capable of making missions myself, I just wanted the units to be available in MP with a serverkey and everything.

yeah they will, but at least if some people want to create a little server and try their mission on it, it's ready to go, but i'm not sure if it work

We are still testing! there are many bugs still being ironed out. And yes there was a new beta release but you need to be a member of our forums to download
it or you can just wait around another month at least for a release stable enough to release to you guys. :)

Actually, I've already downloaded it in the course of the last day.

This seems to be optimized for OA right? That's why there were actually more bugs than the ArmA2 beta released earlier. But I like the new features, such as the thermal sights and range finder on the ZTZ-99 (though still no range setting feature).
Even though there are some animation problems here and there (such as the Type 85 SMG of the AFV crews are held wrong), sound issues (Type 06 silenced pistol isnt silenced at all and the WZ-10 has no flight sound) and the Grenadiers still have no underbarrell launchers on their rifles, I see this as a pretty good overall progress though.

I especially liked that you included the PLAN Marines and 15th Airborne Corps to the mod. I love the QBZ-03!

Another thing here: Please add a range-setting capability to all the chinese sniper rifles and DMR's. It is really hard, if not impossible, to snipe with them at great range without those, since the reticule are really hard to use without any clear range indication...

Will the patch also be released on armaholic or in one file in an english domain like the previous version(s)?

Also there is a sound bug on the ZBD04 where no sound is played and also all the tanks and APCs outer armour is made of dirt and not metal, this means when shot it makes a dirt impact sound rather than metal and also has the dirt particle effect as opposed to metal.

Also I know it is very early beta but is there any news on custom sounds?

you have to register and then comment, say soemthing like "cool mod" or "thanks" before you can download. You will have to google translate each individual word seperatly, translatating the entire page will not allow you to register or log in.

I hope this mod becomes really popular when it is finished, maybe BIS will se how good they are and put China in arma 3 :D
