View Full Version : ARMA2 & OA's Steam Thread: All Steam Q's/discussions go here [covered by Dwarden]
HI, thanks for the info on the verifying the files
I did that on Arma2, Arma2 OA, and the BAF stuff and everything checked out fine
I am still getting these messages about "downloadable content that has been deleted" specifically CAWheeled2_BTR and other CA things.
I have no idea where these CA things came from.
Would it maybe help if I just deleted the local content and reinstalled all the arma2 components?
I am also having the same issue with these CAWheeled2_BTR90 files. I can't seem to locate this in the Arma Folders which could mean its all hidden elsewhere?

AFAIK the "CA" stuff is addons belonging to ArmA2. Are you guys sure that you are running ArmA2 and OA combined?
I purchased Arma II combined operations from Steam and have both installed, so technically it should be able to work. Unless I am missing some interface somewhere. But the thing is, the multi-player recognizes that I have Arma II, Arma II OA and British armed forces.
This makes me unable to play any chernarus multiplayer map, could anyone help me?

run STEAM as administrator
start first ARMA 2 (this writes key into registry), exit ARMA 2
start ARMA 2: BAF (to ensure BAF is properly installed)
starts ARMA 2: OA binary so no worry
start ARMA 2: Combined Operations
starts ARMA 2: OA binary so no worry
now you should be able load all maps in editor (Utes, Desert, Chernarus, Takistan, Shapur)
in case this don't work try revalidate file cache of each title and repeat the procedure

Is there a way to make a shortcut for Combined Operations? I'm kinda lazy and like to have shortcuts. I also forget to go into my games library and right click OA to run CO.

Sweet TY!
To my post previously: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=107354
I am still getting the same error after turning off UAC and letting steam run under administrator priviledge - Basically I deleted all local content (ARMA 2, ARMA 2 OA, ARMA 2 Brtish Armed Forces) and redownloaded ARMA 2 OA and got the error when starting it.
PS: I also chosen to participate in beta steam program.
Anyone please help. Thanks

so far everyone who encoutered issues with BAF and STEAM was fixable with one of these steps
1. run STEAM as administrator (applise to below steps too)
2. revalidating filecache of ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: OA
+ starting ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: OA once
3. erasing these folders inside OA (\BAF\ and \DLCsetup\)
+ reinstalling A2: BAF
as for You these seems to not work ... there are several other questions
do i understood correctly You are getting this error with only ARMA 2: OA ? (A2 and A2:BAF not installed)
what's exactly you OS ?
same error even if you enable UAC and use 'run as administrator'? (yes disabling UAC caused weird result for some users)
any special security suite (HIPS firewalls like Comodo Suite, Norton Suite etc)?
any other special software running (memory firewalls, sandboxing or else ?)
was ARMA2OA.rpt created on startup of arma2oa.exe?
on W7 located e.g. C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\ArmA 2 OA\
Hi Thanks for reply:
I redownloaded all (ARMA2, ARMA 2 OA and ARMA 2 BAF) via steam.
As per your instruction:
For 1. Done this via propertieies of steam.exe select priviledge run as administrator - I reactivated UAC, I am using Windows 7.
For 2. Revalidated Arma2 then Arma2:OA and then try start ARMA 2 followed by ARMA2:OA. ARMA 2 starts fine can get in game, ARMA:OA returned error code 51.
For 3. erasing these folders inside ARMA2:OA (\DLCsetup\) - I do not have \BAF\ folder.
I do not have special security suite. and I cannot see ArmA 2 OA folder at all; only ARMA2 folder in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\.
Thanks

make sure you really have BAF downloaded :)
anyway try run ARMA 2: OA it should start BAF install automatically
as replacement of Your F-secure antivirus i suggest to use Avast! v5 www.avast.com (http://www.avast.com)
the home edition is free fron non-commercial use

I start OA and clicked expansion and can see green box next to BAF. Thanks again!:bounce3:
So ever since BAF my OA has not worked. I talked to steam they weren't helpful at all i'm wondering right now if it's my DX11 that messed up OA or if it was BAF. I've uninstalled/reinstalled about 30 times. I verified the cache, etc.
When I try and run it nothing comes up at all. I open my taskmanager and watch it get to 19K in the memory column and then dissapear.

So... I own ArmA2, ArmA2:OA and Arma2:BAF all on Steam. I have 2 working folders in the SteamApps/Common folder, one for ArmA2 and one for ArmA2:AO... both folders together total over 15 gigs of data... are they duplicating files? is there no way to merge both in to a single working directory?
Next question:
When I launch ArmA2:OA it asks if I want to launch Combined Arms... but when I do that, the following happens.... the Expansions Menu lists:
ArmA2: British Armed Forces
arma2
ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead
ArmA2
Just like that and it won't acknowledge any of the @<hidden> folders like it does when I just launch ArmA2:OA on it's own. What gives?
Dwarden
Sep 25 2010, 13:32
the merge is not overwriting content anyway so you would not make your games smaller by combining them into single dir ...
i assume you got some mods because default A2 is under 10GB and OA same ...

A staff member has replied to your question:
Hello Tim, If it still does not work, please try deleting your ArmA 2 expansion entries: Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK". Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ Note: In 64-bit operating systems, this path may begin as: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ Right-click on the entry "ArmA 2 OA" and select "Delete". The entry may appear as a folder. Exit regedit. Load Steam using the following instructions: -If you are running in Windows Vista or Windows 7, please completely exit Steam, and right-click on the shortcut which you use to launch Steam and select "Run as Administrator." -If you are running in Windows XP, take the following steps: 1) Exit Steam. 2) Go to the "Start" menu, select "Run", type "regedit" and click "OK". 3) Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VALVE 4) Right click and select "Permissions" 5) Check the boxes for "Admin" and "System" to "Full control" and "Read". From the Library list, right-click on "ArmA 2" and select "Properties" from the menu. Select the "Local files" tab and click the "Verify integrity of game cache..." button. Steam will verify the game cache files (GCF's) - this process may take several minutes. Once the process is completed, the "Check" window will automatically exit. Do the same for "ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead". You should now be able to launch your game. If you continue to have difficulty, further technical support for this title is handled by a third party support department - please follow the link below for instructions to contact the support provider for this title: Title: ArmA II series Link: http://support.steampowered.com/kb_a...7614-RUPL-1145 Please let us know if you encounter any difficulty contacting the support provider for this title, or if you have any further questions.
I am at a loss as to what to do any help would be appreciated

they key problem here is to run whole STEAM.exe as administrator first
the do revalidation of the game (or complete reinstall) and start it
I am really getting tired of this run around on a fix. this has been going on for darn near a week now. I bought this game from steam when it came out and I haven't played it all that much. I like the game and like OF. I would like to play combined ops with my friends. However, It is not possible as I can't get arma 2 to run . All I get is a note saying BAD SERIAL NUMBER GIVEN IN SETUP.
I e-mailed steam a bunch and tried all their fixes and was referred to here because they said that you could handle it. I don't know what the answer is to this problem ???? I tried the fix your rep said to try and reinstalled arma2. I got the same results as every time I have tried your fixes, which is negative.
Look, I have been patient and have tried and tried to fix this issue. I either need a new key or a refund from steam or you. I really don't know why you or steam can't go into my account and fix this problem. I bought the game thru steam. there is a record of it.:(
Dwarden
Sep 26 2010, 10:09
the fix to this problem is same since ARMA 2 and Vista
e.g. see here (it's the classic exit steam, "run as administrator" , start ARMA 2/OA)
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=662748
and it always work (You would be first who can't fix the bad serial number given in setup)
anyway if You can't fix it then You must contact Valve(STEAM) for the refund or account analysis because we have no control over theirs service

Hi there, I've searched for answers to my question but havent come across any that help.
My Squadmate has Arma2 with Arrowhead and Baf but purchased it through Steam (the rest of us bought through different means), the problem is that he cant join us when we're playing on a non-dedicated server (my own PC), though he can join any of the dedicated servers which would I'm presuming count out any firewall problems. Versions are the same.
Any assistance would be gratefully received.

I have the Steam version of arma2 , arma2oa and the British dlc.
I have no problems joining 'normal' cd install servers etc.
However, there are a few points he should be aware of...
first, if your running arma2 only... arma2 oa wont see the server at all.
if you start the server with ao, he needs to as well...
sounds obvious? its not.
combined ops makes it a bit different. steam version of combined ops, you have to run a BATCH file... tell him to find that batchfile, and run it. (or go into the steam browser and use the link there.)
if you use mods, the steam version gets a bit messier... you can add the mods into the steam launcher... but your always stuck with them. instead, copy the batch file, and down at the bottom, you can add specific mods via commandline.. and u can have alot of diff setups for that with more than one batchfile.
(hope i made sense! sometimes i go off on tangents lol)
goodluck!

Hello,
well here i am again. I have still not received a fix on my game. I either need a fix or a new key. I contacted steam like you told me and they told me to contact you. I want someone to either fix, give me another key , or give me my money back.
I am tired of this runaround. This has become a nightmare. I want and demand results of one of the afore menti0ned things. I have been a loyal customer for the last several years and have had only one problem prior to this one. I received a bad key for bbc and it was resolved right away by giving me another key. What is so hard about this.
I don't understand why i should be made to go thru all this aggravation when it is not my fault. I paid good money for this game and would like to enjoy my purchase.
Help me out here, fix my game !!!!!!:(
when verifying cache the check stops at 50% for arma2 and says 100% complete. while doing the cache check for operation arrowhead it runs thru 100% of the check. Operation arrowhead works fine

Thanks for your help on this, i finally managed to get addons working which meant i could join our clans server but i must point out that steam have yet again really screwed things up!!! you guys (STEAM) are selling products that are not fully compatible with your operating platform, yes you have the base running but people want to enhance their experience by using mods and you guys should have really prepared for this. Please comunicate with Bohemia to try and resolve your outstanding bugs with this sim. I mean cmon guys with the amount of money you are charging for titles surely you can afford to get a team on board to help on these type of issues??? I would REALLY be interetsed in receiving an honest answer from steam about this and why claim to support a product when in actual fact you guys don't!!

Hey lately I have been having multiplayer trouble with OA.
Now I have Retail version of Arma 2, but I have Arrowhead and BAF Steam. I did what dwarden has posted earlier in this forum about using the Windows batch file, so you can run Combined operations. But on some servers I get a Debug error. Mostly it says to check the WF_Logic inside the editor to check to see if the correct ammount of towns are set. I have no idead what that means, but it won't let me purchase units. However I can still purchase gear. This is for online multiplayer CTI maps, and their are no additional mods on these maps. The other debug error I get is about Money. That isn't much of a problem, all it does is reset my funds, I still get them, and I can purchase units. And also occasionally I get missing mission addons like BAF_CH47 addon, and M4-EOTECH. Also I noticed that when I use the Batch file, and after the Game loads and I check the expansions tab it has Arma 2 Running twice. I don't know if this effects anything, but feedback on this would be well appreaciated, Thank you Ringo
P.S. I found where the Steam saved games are stored. Ignore the previous post, I don't know how to delete it.
I have a AMD Phenom Quad-core 1.80Ghz, 4gig Ram, Nvidia Galaxy GT220 video card, and I run Windows Vista. Lastest version.:yay:

Guys I am trying to get the Isla Duala mod to work from within my Steam ARMA2 CO folder.
I purchased the original ARMA2 and OA via Steam and the other day (after a few hours of dicking around....not impressed) managed to get them to work as CO.
Since then I have moved my mod folders (@<hidden>, ACBA etc) into the expansions folder in OA and then added the applicable -mod line to the 'launch options' in Steam. The mods have been working fine.
However today I tried to do the same thing for Isla Duala 1.81 (@<hidden>) and for some reason it does not seem to work. If I go to the 'expansions' tab within CO I see that @<hidden> is enabled however if I go to the editor there is no map nor content.
Is anyone able to assist?
PS: Why is this all so hard with Steam and CO? It used to be fairly straight forward before CO!
running STEAM as admin ?
any security software?
any nonstandard software?
Set it to run as admin and I have Zone Alarm running. Non-standard software being what? Earlier I even tried turning off my ZA, TS, Xfire and everything to run OA still didn't work I messed with the properties to make it minimized, full, etc, compatibility, nothing has worked as of so far.

I have two times in short succsession experienced this:
MP games start to crash around base structures. Consistenly. Other players get the battleye failed message from me. I CTD.
I check my steam cache, and it redownloads about 800mb of data.
What could be causing such massive corruptions? Betas?
betas aren't touching anything in the game files they have own subdirectory
it might be flaw in some addon you installed (e.g. community tool or installer) or mislook when copy / extracted etc

Really rediculous how many of us have it form STEAM and we cannot get on BATTLEeye servers due to this. I have also bought last nite the full version of BAF and tried it with the patch and still no go. It is not initializing battleye. BAF is already up2date on STEAM including the hotfix
You can't see BAF history because theirs system points to wrong appID page
each ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: OA have own BE installer
they are part of STEAM dataset by default
check inside STEAM directory \Steamapps\Common\
\ARMA 2\BEsetup\
\ARMA 2 Operation Arrowhead\BEsetup\
but i suggest You run steam via "Run as administrator"
i am allways like admin logged in shouldnt be prob there. and i manualy tried to update battleye too didnt helped even when i tried files which bettleye have on their official sites
we had to password our server until this battleye issue is resolved. Tried the above recommended and none of us can join a battleye enabled game server. There is still something wrong.
Steam updated my game to 1.55 but arma2oaserver.exe is still version 1.52. Where can I download the Windows 1.55 dedicated exe ? Or do I have to wait for another beta ? Can't BIS put it up on their webpage somewhere ? The Linux 1.55 is there, but the Win version is not.
Nevermind, found it in Steam tools.

This is getting very annoying, I'm sorry and I understand that Bohemia interactive is looking into it, but every time I turn around, just because I have the hard copy of Arma 2, and the steam version of Arowhead, it just gives me a shitload of trouble! Dwarden I am not trying to be rude, please do not mistake my intentions as being a ass. I really am not trying to be, but I did pay for game, it was made by you and you licensed it to steam. I just want it to work as it should. You guys are always putting current quick fixes up for everyone else, but why does the steam community have to wait all the time. Like I said before, I am not trying to be a ass, and I hope you understand my point, but I am no different than any other customer. Thank you

STEAM gave four options when clicking shortcut. Now they are gone.
I used to click my shortcut, and Steam would pop up a dark window and provide me with four options: BattlEye, Windowed Mode, Combined Ops etc. I selected Combined Ops, and that's how I was able to run CO, basically.
Now, instead of spending two hours trying to run CO another way, is there any way I can ADD the ABOVE option function back to my shortcut? It's not about the target line I think, because that hasn't changed.
I don't think it matters, but my current target line is
"D:\Game\Steam\SteamApps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\ArmA2OA.exe" -nosplash "-mod=d:\game\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\EXPANSION;ca;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>"

this seems to be problem with the desktop shortcut made by STEAMclient
it offers the option only for first time being used
so i suggest You aim this STEAMclient feature request on Valve
the menu choice is always available via:
1. just double click on the ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead inside the STEAM games list
or
2. left mouse click select the game then right mouse click and pick the option from drop down menu

Ah, so... I just turn off Steam before I double-click the shortcut. Voilá.
Now, however, Steam refuses to run CO. I select "Combined Ops" from the menu, and then the cmd briefly flickers before my eyes, followed by nothing.
Is anything wrong with my _runA2CO.cmd?

if you own STEAM ARMA 2 and OA make sure you started the ARMA 2 at least once (so paths are written to registry)
Hello Dwarden, it seems that following the STEAM update to the current versions across the board for Arma II, CO and BAF, i have become unable to connect to warfare servers for some reason.
I actively tested and it seems i can connect to Domination servers and such, but with warfare the soldier role select screen appears, and once that is done, the loading period that follows will complete. But here's where it goes wrong, I am then suddenly thrust back out into the multiplayer server list area, as if the connection was never made at all.
Is there anything i can do to correct this new malfunction? I have tried verifying the files but it appears to change anything.
here i go again!!!
I have a hardcopy of ARMAII and steam copy of OA
both booted fine before the patch but now i can only get to the menu on both ARMA II and OA I can play single player and game freezes upon making the multiplayer selection???
otherwise prior to the 1.08 patch everything worked fine?
even after steam update the version still says 1.05??????

any idea how much longer this is going to go on for......not only did we have to wait longer for the patch to come out over steam but now we still cant play.
Ive tried to set our server to run with out battleye installed but even that wont work..
need to wait it out and post in the steam forum about the problem.
btw its more than just a steam problem.
my hard copy of ARMA II wont load multiplayer either but play single player fine.
What ever happened to trying the patches first before release????

Hello
Yesterday i bought ARma 2 and OA through steam.
But when i play i get error message Error 8876086c. I was in single player, when this occurred please help!
System specs:
Win xp 32
4x 2.5 AMD Phenom
4850 (512MB)x2
I have steam versions of Arma2 1.08 and OA 1.55 on winxp.
After patching to 1.55 i had the "BE failed to initialize" error, BE 1.45 update fixed that.
I now see BE initialize when i join. But I was kicked for "Corrupted Memory #0" by BE, restarted PC tried again "Corrupted Memory #0".
So following BE's instructions i checked for Viruses and then I used Steams "Verify integrity of game cache" on both OA and Arma2, now i can't join warfare servers (which is all i play) I'm kicked for "CAWheeled_btr_90 warfare2vehicles" deleted, and thats before i get to find out if i'm still going to get kicked by BE's "Corrupted Memory #0".
So before 1.55 i had no issues and played daily.
Now well.. getting pretty PO'ed.
PS I did notice Steam had done a small update for both OA and Arma2 of 3.2mb each, no change.
---------- Post added at 04:45 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:20 AM ----------
OK "CAWheeled_btr_90 warfare2vehicles" deleted error is because CO wasn't launching even thought thats whats i'd ask it to do it was just launching OA, i guess this is from the "Verify integrity of game cache" check i did, both Arma2 and OA must be run after this check, otherwise CO won't start it'll just be OA.
So now i'm still being kicked for "Corrupted Memory #0" by BE.
Done Virus scans what else is there to do about this?
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=109915&page=11 has the answer look for $able's post on Appdata
Sweet unPO'ed can join and play

yeah patch 1.54 it worked fine. Now that I patched to 1.55 I can't play, it freezes up in definitely. Regardless of any graphic changes, It first froze up before I even looked at the new graphic options.
Is this still a BE problem? or some other bug?

REMEMBER always when you do CHECK integrity on ARMA 2 or first install it
You must ONCE run ARMA 2 before You use ARMA 2: Combined Operations mode
because that single run create registry entry with path to the game
(each time you run integrity check in STEAM, it wipes the registry values)
if you have corrupted memory error check the BE files and try several servers
(if server has wrong file (used by mistake A2 files for OA) the message will be same)
to verify the files best solution is read first post
http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=109915
and erase both beclient.dll (in appdata and game dir) and then download and run the BE A2OA installer

I am just running Arma 2 OA standalone version. Like I said didn't have these issues with 1.54 just 1.55. Dwarden is there any progress on fixing the current issues with 1.55?
Also I noticed a postpone on Arma 2 Private Military is this due to patch 1.55?
I appreciate a response.

I got "ARMA 2 OA Has stopped working" error on 1.55 patch. I have this error 2 times. Even if I can run Arma 2 without any problem, Arma2 OA or CO doesn't work. I had to delete all steam files and re-download everything again. It fixed the problem but it keeps happening after some playing on OA. I'm using D2D version Arma 2 with Steam version Arma2 OA.

Didn't change anything :/ gonna reinstall OA and hope it helps.
Edit: No change :/
Edit2: I went into the folder and found a shortcut to launch beta. the thing you add to launch it through steam is
-mod=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -nosplash
And i think that should fix some problems :). Now i gotta figure out a way for Combined
To add that string didn't help but it works to launch it from the shortcut.. owell

Same problem over here.
(I just remembered I had that problem with the OA demo too.)
Got OA running using the beta patch.
Is it possible to play with others that way? Just tried a few servers and it didn't work. Mods could have been the problem, I'm not sure about it.
EDIT: Tried some more servers, no luck. Sometimes the scenario gets transfered, but I keep getting kicked back to the lobby without information.
And how do I tell Steam to start it the beta. What exactly do I have to do with that beta shortcut?
Anyway, beta patch is no solution, because CO doesn't work.
Every new idea would be appreciated.

thanks for sharing with it with us,
Fsecure and Zone Alarm and some other security suites are known to cause such issues
I suggest all with a connection issue to disable firewall/antivirus.
start ARMA
click multiplayer and connect to a server if you can.
once you do that back out of the game and reenable your firewall /antivirus.

Also it fixed some other bugs in my computer. Fuck firewall im risking it! (unless someone could reccomend me a fully working wall to use with gaming)

Hey quick question, first I know that PMC is not out on steam yet, (I bought it from Gamersgate). I just wanted to know what to add to the batch file command line to use it with combines operations, or does it just activate automatically. Sorry Dwarden. So far you have been the best source for this kind of information.

I'm guessing we'll have to wait a little bit before steam can decrypt and launch the necessary files.
I get the same error.
Hey, I purchased the PMC DLC on Steam and was excited to see it get put up today. I use ArmA II Launcher (http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241) to launch my game. I did not see a folder named 'PMC' in the Available Mods selection. From what little I could gather from all of this it appears the installer didn't even create the 'PMC' folder in my OA directory as BAF did with it's installer.
Here's an image to show what did appear:
http://www.mattsif.com/arma2/PMC-Bug2.png
And when I loaded it and launched the game I got firstly 'Game Is Unavailable' from Steam and it kept loading my Combined Operations. Then I got this.

I'd really to play this DLC soon, able to assist?

Something's not right with the Steam version. I'm getting a similar error. I bought it and installed it through Steam, when I go to play it, it says the game is unavailable and then starts OA anyway and it says I'm running PMC (lite).
Steam or BI need to fix this ASAP.
I lagged too much when it got to the main menu ingame, couldn't take it.

I've had that same problem with PMC and it refuses to work on game start.

I wonder, does Steam convert it on their own time or does BI provide them with a compliant version?

Steam seems to have failed to properly install PMC
It produces the message "This game is currently unavailable" (in a steam dialogue) when launching, but starts Arrowhead anyways. There is no PMC sub-folder, though there is a PMC folder in the DLCsetup folder.
"Private Military Company Lite" appears in the Expansions menu (only).
When the Editor loads and previews a mission in the Proving Grounds the following Script Error appears:
ca\modules_pmc\functions\campaign\fn_initindentity.sqf not found
I tried verifying local game cache
I tried deleting local game files and redownloading them
I tried disabling Anti-Virus.

Tried the usual fixes: administrator mode, deletec clientregistry.blob, removed write protection of game folder.
AFAIK datacachepreprocessor.exe is supposed to run to complete the installation, but it does not happen. I also tried starting that manually but got the same "Not available...". With BAF I had the problem that the game + datacacheprocessor start simultaneously, and of course it can't patch any files that are in use. Running the exe separately helped, but this time it seems like a Steam fail.

I would like to know if there is any information we can provide to BIS to help fix this. Does Steam write an error log or anything. I am personally running Windows 7 32bit, Steam is latest official version and not some beta.
I am currently doing a clean reinstall of Arma, but that is just based on superstition and I don't really expect it to help.

It just didn't install properly. If you look in your Operation Arrowhead folder under /steam/steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/ you can compare with the BAF install and see that, while the installer files exist in "DLCsetup", it didn't actually install the content (BAF has a folder right under the OA folder where the addon lives).
I was going to try it manually but I see there's a license file and all sorts of other BS that I really don't want to get into. Oh well, Steam bites us yet again. I'm just happy that, because of the beta patches, I can run Arma without having Steam logged in.
I'm having problems with steam and ARMA II OA.
Basically steam will not update the game.
Its set to do it automaticaly but im still sat on version 1.54 Allthou i reinstalled the game and now have the PMC Lite content im still on 1.54 Apparntly.

It would be nice to hear something from BIS about what is going on, and what the problem is. ... but it's a lot easier ... if you know what is happening and that someone is working on fixing the problem.
It's a steam related issue. Has happened before and does happen with some non-Valve games. It has something to do with the way the Steam client actually installs the already downloaded content. With a working release, there's some decryption, encryption, ???? and the downloaded package will be installed, but sometimes, some keys are done wrong and it won't install (can't find proper pieces, a proper installation location or any other not so relevant reason). Happens a lot to both non-valve addons and items you can pre-purchase.
Im sure Valve is either already working on it or it's in their queue.
I'd sit back, enjoy life and check back tomorrow, just like the pop up dialog says. Or if you can't fight the anxiety, every hour or so.
And another thing I wanted to mention is sudden stuttering or lag after either patching your Steam version AO to 1.56 or installing PMC. Close the game and check your task manager and see if Steam.exe is hogging your CPU resources. Dwarden confirmed that this does happen lately after installing or patching with Steam. To fix it, just close and restart the Steam application.
Cheers!
Btw, we're hanging out in the PMC official Steam groups group chat right now. If you have any quick questions, you can try and drop by.

This is Steam related or at least theres's nothing you can do about it. Everyone who bought their PMC from Steam has this issue right now.
You will have to try again another time, maybe in an hour or two. It shouldn't take more than a day for them to fix this.
hope so I have the problem too...I guess my post is of no importance

Ok, should we delete this game then since it didn`t install correctly, and red/l at a later date?
Probably no need for that. The problem seems to be with the installation, so once that works the already downloaded files can most likely be used to install PMC.

Make sure you have BattleEye installed properly or just reinstall it. The most common auto-kick culprit.

So I have Arma2 (OA/BAF) through Steam obviously, and last night patch 1.56 downloaded and installed. I try to purchase the full PMC thru Steam and I get a message:
"There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance."
Been about 8 hours now and still no change when I try to purchase. Roger that. So I figure I will just start OA and play PMC lite. Not good. No matter which Arma version I try to open I keep getting the error message:
"Data file too short 'EXPANSION\addons\characters_e.pbo'. Expected 672116306 B, got 505937920 B"
And then the window closes. I cannot play ANY version of ARMA. No matter what I open, I get the same error message and then the window closes. No other options or messages appear. Funny thing was, before 1.56 on 1.55 my game was BUG FREE!!!! It was perfect! And now I can't play at all! Anyone else seeing these messages or errors? I looked but couldn't find anything..... Please help!!!!!!!
Aghh, this still is not fixed.

I am also receiving the "This game is currently unavailable" error message when I try and play PMC through Steam. If I try to start up OA and enable the expansion from there, I get: 'Failed to load file "DLCsetup\PMC\PMC_Data\addons\air_pmc.pbo" - decryption headers failed.'
None of Steam's recommendations for fixing the issue are working. Anyone have any ideas? Whose problem is it, BI or Valve? Are they in conference with one another to get their customers a solution?

Ah the pmc issue seems to be properly reported. That's good. Now I just wish BI would take the initiative to allow us steam users to use our cd keys on their store so we dont have to deal with this anymore. At least that way in the future we could use the official store so they get more money. Well here's hoping they get pmc up and running soon.

I must admit that as a new Steam user I'm not enormously impressed...
Nonstandard game directory, can't use more than about 3 modfolders because of path length limitations, every patch requires a full game redownload and are only available later than everyone else, it seems this one is also a different patch version that doesn't seem to include the same things as everyone else... then, to top it all - when you buy the DLC they take your cash and the next day you're still waiting for what you paid for???
has Steam always been like this???
Now that the copy protection is gone and I can finally run OA without having to have Steam running - does this mean I can just pull all the files, repath the registry and build myself a "proper" single Arma 2 directory now? - or are the steam files somehow nonstandard as well?

I've stuck with Steam for about seven years so far, more good than bad has occurred over all those years while using Steam.
I've played lots of games on Steam, and the only problems I've ever had have been with Arma 2. I don't think you can just blame Steam for this.
And I'm sure that Steam has absolutely nothing to do with the contents of the patches.

All right guys, here's a quick fix for your Steam PMC. All credit goes to Steam user kylania as far as I know.
0. Do take note that this is a bypass, not a real fix. this might bring up issues a normal install wouldnt.
1. Make sure you've downloaded PMC in Steam. you should be able to click on 'Play' in the library. If you do, the try again later dialogue should pop.
2. go to your ...\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\DLCsetup\BAF folder.
3. Find datacachepreprocessor.exe and copy it.
4. Relocate to ...\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\DLCsetup\PMC folder. At this point, you should rename the datacachepreprocessor.exe in the PMC folder to something else.
5. Paste the .exe file and overwrite the previous one.
6. Run the datacachepreprocessor.exe in the PMC folder with Administrator rights
7. Let the Installer install everything. If a window pops up suggesting you'd reinstall something, dont do it.
8. ????
9. The PMC should run automatically. You probably can't start the game from the Steam PMC launcher. Just run AO or Combined Op's and it should work.
10. Enjoy the game.
cheers
EDIT: Forgot to mention that you need to have BAF installed via Steam as well... probably.
EDIT2: When choosing Play PMc from Steam, Not available error pops up. AO or CO should be run instead.
EDIT3: Try not to forget to run the datacachepreprocessor.exe with 'Run as administrator'. If you get some pbo file related errorst after installing, try restarting Steam.

Lucky you that you haven't had problems, but plenty of other people have. I myself am happy about the random disconnections that happen at random times throughout the day which prevent the launching of games and connection to the "friends" service, but of course the web-based store continues to work just fine.
As far as the patch content goes: sure, the only patch content they are responsible for is for Valve products, so I'm not sure where you are going with this. From the looks of the PMC installer folder on my PC it seems to be all there, but Steam throws up any time I try to manually run the installer. Doesn't sound like a BI problem to me...

The free campaign that comes with the patch that you download is for some reason not included in the Steam patch. That's a BIS problem, not Steam. Are you sure you copied the exe from the BAF folder into the PMC folder and replaced the original? If the 'not available dialog' pops up, it looks like its still using the old exe. You could rename to one in PMC to something else and then copy. Just to be sure.
If it stil lwon't work, it's way out of my league.

Yeah... I have to say that I'm not down on Steam as such - I guess, specially with Valve games, it's a great system for kids, and people who play a lot of different games... But for Arma 2, etc it just seems to be an awful struggle - another level of complexity in an already complex game... Look at poor 'ol Dwarden bustin' a gut running around with fixes and .cmd files trying to keep everyone happy... that can't be good for his blood pressure... ;)
Oh well, best not dwell... as Jack O'Neill would say... I'm sure it'll all get sorted soon enough...
I notice Dwarden being all coy and unstressed in another thread... think I'll wait and see what that's about... :)

I have no idea what it's called, since the DLC is not working for me. It's the campaign that comes with PMC, should be in there with the other campaigns if you have installed the non-Steam patch.
It's got the low quality models, sound and cut scene videos, so I would recommend everyone to buy the DLC to get the full experience, and to support BIS and the great game that Arma 2 is.

I see. You don't think that was a bug? Have BI gone on record saying it was intentional that the PMC campaign was added in the 1.56 patch?
I watched the vid that one user uploaded to Youtube, and despite Youtube's encoding artifacts it looked pretty darn good and that was without PMC installed at all. That cannot have been intentional. I feel like this was not intentional.
In any case, I totally agree with your recommendation. Hell, if they released all future content for free I'd still send them money every now and then.
Ok lads, let’s not bicker and argue about whose fault it is ok?
Let’s try and be constructive.
Has anyone who bought it off of steam got it working?
'cos i haven’t.
I get the "This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time."
I have 'verified integrity of game cache...’ but still no good.
If I run ArrowHead:Combined Ops through steam (first it reinstalled BAF) i get the same error message, but then it loads with PMC (Lite).
I have tried running the setup file located at
"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\DLCsetup\PMC" and still get the same error.
I would expect to see a folder called PMC in the ArrowHead Directory, alongside BAF, but there is no such folder.
Any one else tried anything else?

I get an error saying something about "Description of headers"..
When running the shortcut from Steam i stil get the old error (not available).
Running ArrowHead:combined Ops i get the Lite versions.
Also, what is step 8 meant to be?

Have to agree with you.
I've not known any other game where the installation process (within STEAM) has failed so badly.
To me it feels like the STEAM build process is a last minute process without much thought into the build setup, with little or no testing; otherwise we wouldn't be seeing the issues encountered.
I really wouldnt' mind redownloading the whole thing providing they can get the process as smooth and seemlessly as possible. STEAM provide the developers with the required STEAM tools & systems to build, upload and test the downloads before releasing to the live system. Is is a matter of time, lack of experience using the tools (doubtful) and/or both?
[Added after posting]
Forgetting to post the reason for posting in the first place.
I'm also encountering issues with loading ARMA since purchasing and installing the PMC DLC via STEAM (all my ARMA2/OA + DLC's purchased via STEAM).
I receive a message of:
Steam Error:
This game is currently unavailable.
Please try again at another time.
The last time the game (pre PMC) was working was before I purchased and installed the PMC DLC
BIS musta gave steam the wrong files because 1. PMC lite does shows up in expansions but not in campaigns. 2. PMC (proper) does not install? They either got corrupted or they gave them the wrong files....steam will have a checksum on all the files so they will be correct to all the files BIS uploaded to steam...sooo.....anyway who cares just fix the damn issue I want to play PMC campaign ploxxx?

Alright, so eventually the BAF installer thing worked for me. I think. Possibly.
I assume it didn't work initially because I had my Steam install on my C drive and just symlinked my steamapps folder to my D drive. I then had Arma and OA symlinked BACK to my C drive because it's an SSD...
Anyways, I reinstalled Steam on the D drive and moved my Arma installs back as well. I ran Arma, then OA, then copied the BAF installer to the PMC folder and ran it. It's hard to tell what it was doing because the window doesn't fit the full paths of the files being moved, but it set it all up in the BAF folder. I ran OA and it only showed PMC lite as active; PMC full was there but disabled.
I then ran BAF from the Steam library and it installed PMC. Correct graphics on the installer and everything. Now they both appear in the Expansions list, the campaign shows up correctly. I haven't actually played; I'll test it once the kiddos go to bed.
Big fun!

Agreed. I've not encountered this kind of ineptitude before with any other titles bought via Steam. Albeit I'm sure it will be fixed in the next day or so (preferably sooner), it really demonstrates a lack of competent organisation at BIS end when it comes to ensuring games are delivered 100% smoothly at launch. Frankly whomever fucked up should be straight up fired, that way they might be able to get someone competent (and values their customers) in who knows how to launch a title. Deeply unimpressed.

Mine works now. Delete the PMC DLC, then redownload it through steam.
When I started up PMC through steam, no error this time BUT, there was TWO PMC mods in the 'expansions' menu.
One of them you can disable one you cant. Disable the one you can and it works fine.

Just be patient and keep trying. I was only able to get it to install about an hour ago myself... it just takes patience.
okay, lets bash this out
firstly, I understand you've probably answered these questions before so I'm totally ready to accept copy/paste answers but my situation is thus
I bought ARMA2 on steam, all was good and well, then OA came out and having the cash on me and having seen it in-store I bought it retail, now firstly can I somehow have combined operations on my steam games list (and does that count towards having OA on steam) and secondly can I buy BAF and PMC through steam and have them work with my retail copy/Combined operations
my issues are concerning "Requires the base game ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead on Steam in order to play." on the DLC pages on the steam store, if the answer is "no" to everything, does that lead me to shift to sprocket or another digital distributor
and finally what is goddamn special about the steam versions that they can be broken with a standard patch, or the steam versions of the DLCs that crave OA steam so much they refuse to work without it?
also as to why I didn't read the entire thread, none of the information I need was found within the first post (that's where I look first) nor did I notice anything important as I skim read the next few pages, I decided that considering the posts were chronological I would try and find the section that delt with OA coming out and having not found it among the 1800 posts (20 per page/ 90 pages) I would simply ask the question thereby decreasing the total time wasted from hours to mere minutes although admittedly sharing the load with someone else.
I dont have problem with Steam and Arma..
I deleted the local content and redownloaded. This created two instances of PMC of which one can be disabled through the ingame expansion selector.
Now it works.

my PMC is working now (without me having done anything)... which means steam must have sorted something out.
I do get the occasional script error regarding fn_initIdentity.sqf file.
Workaround is described in this sticky
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1625900
1.
please click the ok on the error popup (OK) to continue
2.
in-game inside main menu goto expansion menu
3.
untick the checkbox for the 2nd PMC listed
4.
restart game
now it should be fine
... working on solution to get rid of this problem completely
sorry for any inconvenience

I struggled briefly with my hybrid disc A2/Steam OA + DLC's after the patch - Spirited Machine's launcher - and various other shortcuts seemed to only launch A2, while Steam would only launch OA...
I think Dwardens promised "it'll all get fixed in the .exe" and an end to all the faffing about with .cmd files might finally have come to pass...
I managed to get everything working as normal again (better than normal now actually - steam doesn't autorun and I can now use more modfolders! yay!) - by completely uninstalling SM's Launcher - manually deleting the sneaky extra folders in c:\users\<username>\AppData Local & Roaming as well - forcing a completely fresh install in other words...
Then I reinstalled - told it "here is my Arma2.exe", "here is my OA .exe" - it found all my modfolders in the original Arma 2 directory - set it to "launch CO" and it worked just fine...
It's still a bit confusing with the game distributed across two locations (I'm a relatively new steam user) - but it's all working just nicely again... with the added bonus that longer command lines now seem to be possible...
Not sure what you did behind the scenes regarding all of this launching business Dwarden, but whatever it was - it's working!
Thanks!!!!

I am unable to install or use ArmA2:PMC content. Here is my set-up:
Windows 7 PC
Steam copies of:
ArmA2
ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead
ArmA2: British Armed Forces
ArmA2: Private Military Company
No non-steam copies of any ArmA2 titles or DLC have ever been installed on this system.
I am located in the United Kingdom (as is my Steam account).
After downloading ArmA2:PMC via Steam, I have tried (and failed) to get the content in game using two different methods:
Method #1: Launching from ArmA2: PMC link in Steam Library
1. Click on "Play" button.
2. A dialog appears asking me to insert an Access Code (CD-Key). Obviously, I do not have a CD-Key (this is a Steam purchase).
3. Attempting to click "Next >" triggers this error message: "Wrong CD-Key".
4. The only way to exit is to click on "Cancel" and abort the installation.
Method #2: Launching vanilla OA and enabling expansion
1. Vanilla OA launches as normal.
2. Expansions displays:
[X] ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead
[X] ArmA2: British Armed Forces
[X] ArmA2: Private Military Company (Lite)

3. Enabling "ArmA2: Private Military Company" triggers a game restart.
4. As the game restarts, this error message is displayed: "Failed to load file "DLCsetup\PMC\PMC_Data\addons\air_pmc.pbo" - decryption of headers failed"
5. As a side-note, this file is on my hard drive, in the expected location.
6. It is possible to click "OK", ignoring the error message, after which OA launches.
7. On the OA main screen, "ArmA2: Private Military Company" is displayed in the top-right (underneath the ArmA2:OA logo); a smaller version of the ArmA2:PMC logo appears next to the ArmA2:BAF logo in the bottom-left of the screen.
8. Expansions displays:
[X] ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead
[X] ArmA2: British Armed Forces
[X] pmc
[X] ArmA2: Private Military Company
9. Singleplayer > Campaign displays:
[X] Operation Arrowhead
[X] Operation Crimson Lance
10. Singleplayer > Editor does not contain *any* ArmA2:PMC units.
Note about verfying game cache and/or re-downloading
After experiencing this issue, I wondered if there might be an issue with my downloaded files. Verifying my files produced no error message. So I deleted my ArmA2:PMC local content (via the Steam Library), and re-dowloaded the AmrA2:PMC content again. Regrettably, I experienced the same problems.
Please can you help, BI?

Update (on post #930):
Someone helpfully pointed me to the CD key which is available by right-clicking ArmA2:PMC in the Steam Library. So this is what I did:
Method #1 (revised): Launching from ArmA2: PMC link in Steam Library
1. Click on "Play" button.
2. A dialog appears asking me to insert an Access Code (CD-Key).
3. Entered the CD-key obtained by right-clicking ArmA2:PMC in the Steam Library and clicked "Next >"
4. An installation process started, but curiously it seemed to be installing BAF files as well. Several error messages about decrypted PMC and BAF files popped up, but the installation completed.
5. The game started and Expansions listed:
[X] ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead
[X] ArmA2: British Armed Forces
[X] ArmA2: Private Military Company
[X] ArmA2: Private Military Company
Note the duplicate entries.
6. I could only disable 1 of the duplicates (the second); I did this and triggered a game restart.
7. During the restart I got several error messages (which appeared to be about missing BAF content); in fact it looked as if it was trying to re-install files again.
... to cut a long story short, after disabling one of the entries for "ArmA2: Private Military Company" I could play PMC content (the campaign etc.), but only if I booted up in Combined Operations mode. Booting up in vanilla OA, or using the ArmA2:PMC link from the Steam Library would show me the campaign, but fail to load any missions, complaining of missing addons. This would be despite claiming to have PMC content installed via entries in the Expansions screen and logos (+ text) on the main menu screen.
Using the Steam Library I have now uninstalled PMC, and when I boot up vanilla OA I see only ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead, BAF and PMC (Lite) listed. What I hope is that there will be no lasting damage to my orginal installations of ArmA2, OA and BAF.
This is really disappointing, BI.

Wow that sounds like a mess. If I were in your situation I'd delete everything (OA + BAF & PMC) and reinstall everything one at a time.
Although if you don't want to do that, maybe try deleting the PMC stuff from the DLC setup directory and redownload it as it seems like it might be corrupt or something.
And it's strange that it's asking for your CD-key. You do have a CD key for PMC on Steam which you can view (as you seemd to have figured out), but I was never asked for it during installation of either DLCs... Maybe there's also a registry problem.
Help me please, I can't launch Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead. Before Steam update game (30 november), it work good, but now I have problem with it.
P.S. Excuse me for my bad english.
@<hidden> Dawg KS - after taking some helpful advice from Dwarden, I've decided to do the following:
1. Remove PMC via the Steam Library uninstall (done, seems to have worked)
2. Wait 48 hours to see what fixes are pushed to Steam
3. Try downloading again, but run Steam as Administrator
4. Pray!
The uninstall of PMC doesn't seem to have damaged my OA and BAF, and I can see PMC Lite content in the editor. So perhaps this situation will resolve over the next few days.
Working for me now!
I uninstalled all ARMA2 games and re-downloaded them all together.
Then started them up, ARMA2 first.
Then Arrow Head (standalone) It then installed BAF and asked for the CD key.
When this was complete it gave me the error about "Failed to load DLC", but started the game fine.
When i went to Expansions there were sure enough two PMC (oine called "pmc" the other called Private Mility Companey"). I disabled the one and restarted.
On restart Steam started to install PMC. No CD key promt and no error message.
When the game started this time i had THREE PMCs in the Expansions!!!
I exited and launched ArrowHead as Combined ops, and everything is working properly.!
:yay:
Not sure if the DLC files were altered, but its certanly working now.
Thanks BIS, i look forward to playing with these new bits and bobs!
Already looking forward to your next game / DLC ;)

I can't get -skipintro or -world=empty to work with any of the Steam/CO shortcuts anymore. They worked before I updated/installed PMC.
As posted in an earlier thread I encounter the same issue. This includes loading any mods via the STEAM 'set launch options'.
It seems any 'mods' are able to load/unload via the ingame 'Expansion' menu.
This doesn't help me wanting to use the -nosplash -skipintro -world=empty switches mind you.
When I go to host my coop or mp mode this message pops up after the game crashes,
ARMA 2 OA
Include file spect\spectating.hpp not found.
It was working fine last night and my friend is having the same issue on steam. Anybody know what the deal is with this error?
I recently purchased the ArmA II PMC DLC addon for steam, and after downloading and trying to run it, I'm told that either the game is not available or I get an error message saying "Failed to load file "DLCsetup\PMC_Data\addons\air_pmc.pbo" - decryption of headers failed." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling PMC and Operation Arrowhead, as well as the BAF addon with no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Cannot create file.

anyone know what this means?
It then says setup did not run properly and that the application may not work.

Yep I had that. Turned out Steam were hanging - and using 25 % cpu time.
QUESTION:
How can I check that I have PMC proper installed - and not PMC lite?
I had to use a workaround the get it to work, you see - and I would like to know/check that everything is OK.
I suggest you verify the files on Steam first to see that they are ok, then start the game and check the "expansions" menu. It should say PMC, not PMC Lite.
If you want to be absolutely sure, get into the new Ka-60 chopper. In the lite version, the cockpit instrument panel is just blurry pixels. The full DLC has all the flight instruments clearly visible.

When I started up the firing range mission in the Boot Camp in OA, everything went fine. So I got the M9 pistol from the crate, and it told me to shoot the targets.
I aimed down my sights right onto the closest target, the middle one, it somehow missed and hit the furthest one. This is from 10 meters away.
Then some watermark came up saying "Illegal copies ma degrade" or something.
In my mind, I was thinking, "what the hell" since I bought this game from Steam.
You can check my steam profile, I bought it, it is Flubadoo.
How the hell do I fix this?
Hi Dwarden,
I appear to have gained some sort of fault since the installation of the PMC expansion.
While I am not sure what it is yet, it seems to prevent the starting of the Arma II Combined Ops. While the individual modules can be started, this combined operations side cannot seem to work.
When I attempt to launch it, the usual command prompt-like window appears with the various corresponding lines. But once that vanishes, the screen remains the same, as if the process never took place. Something seems to be stopping Combined Ops from working it seems.
Its too fast for me to read the code that appears, so I can't really say what its stating. But it seems like it is unable to find something, unspecified path or such.
to be able run ARMA 2: CO on STEAM please run once ARMA 2
STEAM needs to run each title at least once to write it's registry entries
especially if you use the A2:CO mode and it does nothing (just dos prompt window flash in and exits) ...

this is dumb, has anyone figured out how to add the data for either expansion without having to run steam itself as the admin?
[ ] ArmA2: Private Military Company
3. Enabling "ArmA2: Private Military Company" triggers a game restart.

I can't get anything, except ARMA II, to run currently.
OA is stuck in a download paused mode and I keep getting the dreaded "Steam's servers are too busy..." error whenever I try to start the game. This has been going on for over a week.
PMC and BAF won't even try to start, a UAC prompt pops up asking permission to run a cache update application and then everything bombs out.
Not a very happy customer at the moment. :-(

Description: STEAM 'set launch options' issue (for me anyway)
I'm still encountering issues loading the game with mods enabled either from STEAM's 'set launch option'
My STEAM 'set launch options':
-nosplash -skipintro -world=empty -mod=@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;BAF;@<hidden>
If using the 'set launch options' with the parametres above when trying to launch either of the following from my STEAM games list, the mods DO NOT load at all:
ARMA 2: British Armed Forces
ARMA 2: Private Military Company
ARMA 2
If I use the 'set launch options' when trying to launch 'ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead (selecting run with Combined Operations)' the mods seem to load (or at least show up as selected in the 'Expansions' window but with arma 2 listed twice: arma2 & Arma 2)
[Expansions Window]
Arma 2: Private Military Company
arma 2
Arma 2: Operation Arrhowhead
Arma 2
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
Arma 2: British Armed Forces
@<hidden>
When connecting to my server I only see part of the mods loaded:
<snip username> uses modified date - Arma 2: Private Military;arma 2;Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead;Arma 2:@<hidden>
Seems to load 'arma 2 & Arma 2' (duplicate I'm guessing), and cuts/discards some other listed mods!
---
If I start ARMA 2: Operation Arrhowhead from STEAM (selecting 'Play ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead') I then get no 'Arma 2' listed at all - see below
[Expansions Window]
Arma 2: Private Military Company
Arma 2: Operation Arrhowhead
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
@<hidden>
Arma 2: British Armed Forces
@<hidden>
When connecting to our server I can see the mods its showing as running:
<snip username> uses modified date - Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead;Arma 2: Private Military;@<hidden>;@<hidden>
It seems to have cut/not included the rest of the mods - Which I take it is the limit of the steam 'set launch option'?
Now before I purchased and downloaded the STEAM PMC DLC I used the same mod line (I actually had several other mods listed that have been removed) and all worked fine before.
Since the download of the PMC DLC I've had nothing but trouble running the mods via the STEAM 'set launch options'. It's basically stopped working in effect!
Can someone please help me get the bloody game working for me with all the mods I want to run working?
Preferably without a 3rd party launcher (which I've yet to try).

Resolved....
Just performed a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit and cannot launch Arma 2(just vanilla Arma 2, no OA, BAF, PMC.. though I have not downloaded those yet)
All component drivers up-to-date
*See my sig for system specs
UAC off
Steam run as administrator
ARMA 2 run as administrator
When I launch from Steam, I get the standard option menu: Play Arma 2, launch in windows mode, etc.... I click Play Arma 2, game appears to launch for about 1-2 seconds, my status turns "Green"/in-game then it goes back to blue. I have tried windowed mode, no dice.
I have tried launching Arma 2 directly from the /common/arma2 and I get the following error:
"arma2.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point D3DMatrixMultiply could not be located in the dynamic link library d3dx9_41.dll"
Yes, my video card drivers are up-to-date (ATI 10.11). I have updated my Directx drivers as well (other Steam games like BF2, BF BC2 launch fine)
I have deleted the local content and re-downloaded Arma 2 and still cannot launch the game
I have verified the cache several times and cannot launch the game
Thank you in advance for your assistance
sounds like DX9 is not installed at all or so ...

ok now that is weird, did integrity check on ARMA 2 files ?
Yes, multiples times. It passes all checks.
Back to when I try to launch Arma 2 directly from the root folder, I get this error:
"arma2.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point D3DMatrixMultiply could not be located in the dynamic link library d3dx9_41.dll"
I just installed OA and it will not launch as well. Same thing, when I try to launch directly from the root folder I get this error:
"Arma2OA.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point D3DXSaveSurfaceToFileA could not be located in the dynamic link library d3dx9_41.dll"

I have run the DXSETUP.exe located in the /DirectX folder and it appears to install fine.

I believe it means that within the STEAM client 'set launch options' (from within the each game title owned) you can now have more than 255 characters, thus allowing you to have a longer '-mod' entry witihn 'set launch options' :yay:.
There is/was a limit of upto 255 characters and anything after that was ignored.

this was problem in both the "set launch options" but also 'passed by' parameters ...
so if you used the steam.exe -appID to launch game binary there was limit 255< characters on what was given to the game binary
now it's definitely more than 1k

Hey, Does this mean that you do not need that batch file to launch combined operations?
Because I have hard-copy of Arma 2, and steam version of OA, and all of the DLC's.
Or should I still be using it?

Hi,
Please help me to solve this matter, I'm going crazy and can't understand why...
One of my clan member bought A2 and then A2 OA via Steam,
Installed A2, then Installed A2 OA
After checked that everything is set to run as admin, and nothing like firewall mess with A2 and OA
Launch A2
Launch A2 OA
Launch A2 OA CO via Steam launch menu. (the popup that appears after double click on desktop "Launch Arma 2 OA" icon )
First matter: In the "Expansions" menu there is both "arma2" that Arma2 and can't deactivate one of them.
Second trouble: All seems ok, version 1.56, try to join server, ok he can choose a role in the briefing room, press ok, receiving mission data, and then:
Red Chain, no message received from server until it disconnect and back again on server list.
I've noticed that he was able to play on our server on OA maps, on other servers he could play a DM map (don't know wich) but just for a while.
He absolutely can't play, Domination and Warfare, and in some server he is also not able to receive mission data.
I suppose that there is some mess with CO, i can't explain in different ways how is possible that he could join and play just our server for example, and have red chain just when he finish to download mission data on all other server.
Please help me to keep my friend Eddy active player on A2 OA!
So I guess I'm SOL with my inability to launch ARMA 2? :(

I'm getting a new computer in 2 days, and my internet is pretty slow. Can I just copy the files from the Arma 2 directory into the steamapps/common/ directory, and basically make steam download it in an instant?

I can't seem to get the mods in ArmA 2 to work. I have in launch options this:
-nosplash -world=empty -mod=@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;
But no mods actually are working. No WarFX, no zeuAI, no CBA...
Dwarden
Dec 18 2010, 15:38
enclose the -mod with "
like
"-mod=@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden>@<hidden>;@<hidden>;@<hidden> I;@<hidden>;"
also remember to use STEAMclient beta (settings > participate in beta) to avoid 255 chars limit on commandline params

Hmm, it still didn't fix it. OA mods work fine, even though they didn't have the quotes...

- ARMA 2: British Armed Forces

I installed booth without any problems... But after i started up ArmA2: Operation Arrowhead, i took a look inside EXPANSIONS menu and found this annoying problem :(
Two ARMA 2: Private Military Company lines, what the heck!!!

Got the latest updates off Steam a while ago. Managed to get around to trying out British Armed Forces and now I find my FPS have halved.
Updated 1.01 PMC and 1.57 OA in Steam, but after running them I get error about some pbo file not found and there is no confirmation message saying that 1.01 PMC was successfully installed.
Verified Steam files and that seems good. What can I do to make sure that updates were installed?
