Hello, its nearly impossible for me to play the game in 1. person view. The screen is flickering all the time. But this problem does not exist while playing in 3. person view. I made a short video, so you can get headache too. Drivers are up to date.

Not easy to watch the video. Is flickering meant to describe change in brightness of the image or change of the position?
Do you use crossfire or sli? if yes try to turn it off.
Sturmvogel262
May 28 2009, 21:56
no, im not using crossfire or sli
i mean that strange flickering on the ground. the gras is moving up and down in a very strange way (for example). but this only happens in first person view.
to help you, always write system, grafic card, driver version, and so on pls

Funny!
I have the exact same problem and i have the same gpu (GeForce 7950GT (512 MB)) and the same driver. Had an older driver earlier today and the same problem.
Seems to be a problem with the graphic card!
Dang! Hope this will be ironed out because right now the game is unplayable for me!

The flickering seems to be caused by some sort of "nervous focus" on a digicam....can't describe it better.....grass goin from blurred to sharp and back all the time.
Whats the postprocessing set to? Does changing it alter the problem or stays it the same through all options?

Yup, tried every graphics option on the minimal and maximal settings, always this fracking flickering.
Have you guys tried downgrading driver to 182.50 ?

Well, as i mentioned i had an older driver (17x) still on yesterday when i installed ArmA 2 and had the same problem. I think it´s a problem with the graphic card itself and not driver related.
Hallo,
i have the same problem with a Quadro FX 1500M :j:
Funny thing is that is only relates to first person view. Menu and third person is okay. I also noticed that the menu items in first person view (e.g. cross hair, team icons) do not have the issue.
If you go to menu by pressing "ESC" the problem is gone as long as you are in the menu.
Looking forward to the next patch. Keep up the good work (no PC game is without bugs)

Many thanks for the fast patch. (For completeness) the patch 1.01 does not solve the flickering issue on my machine, too.

Have the same problem here.
Only visible in first person.
Not sure if it was there without patch?
I first thought it was the headmovement option that your head is also moving while you stand but after deactivating the blurring and unsharpness is still there.

If it's NVIDIA: Maruk stated somewhere else, that you should try to downgrade the drivers, as the current ones have some problems here and there. Dunno exactly where and by what calculations, but you might give it a try?

I tried an older driver 178.24, but the problem still exists.
It is noticable that the effect is mainly on the right side of the screen, on the left side is the effect less but also visible.
I made a video with my cam, the camera stands still on a solid platform, I put a pen in front of the monitor that you have a reference, that not the camera is shaking but the picture.

Hi everyone,
Have the same problem here with my Geforce 7900 Go => Screen is flickering, like it is seen on the video above.
Tried different drivers, no difference at all.
It´s a pitty, because it runs very smooth on my system on normal settings!!
I also noticed (like explained before) that this effect seems to appear more on the right side of the screen.

What annoys me a little is that there is no "official" word regarding this problem (as of others like switching of the motion blur which makes some ppl nauseous). A small "We are aware of the problem, working on it and it will be fixed in one of the next patches!" would be really nice.
Instead the forums are shut down because the release of a patch for one country drains so much performance? Hence an international release?
No, shutting down the forums after a buggy release is not a good costumer policy whatsoever!
...and by the way the official German forums, which are provided by the German publisher, are not such a big help because the official policy over there seems to be "There is nothing wrong with the game, ppl are just to dumb using their puter!!" and "bugs" you reporting are getting appeased by the mods.

Fillrate on 100% = 4fps for me

I tried almost every possible setting in ArmA to get rid of it but that is not possible!
If you want to have a perfect simulator for short-sightedness try the highest setting for post processing  on this level it is blurred constantly but you still see the flickering.

Got the same problem myself:
Nvidia Geforce 7900, 182.5 drivers
3GB DDR2 Ram
Asus P5 Motherboard
Pentium Core 2 Duo 3.4ghz
Have tried all different graphic settings and only way to get rid of it is to use third person view. Tried turning filtering off, high etc. Tried all settings on different levels. Like the others though theres no option to turn postprocess effects off, only low.
Another guy in the Community Bugtracker has this Problem as well... He has a GF7900GO Mobile Graphics Card - coincidence?

oops... THAT filtering...
Anyway.... theres plenty of Arma2-induced graphics wierdness going on, but I don't think this flickering is one of them... This looks awful like an Nvidia issue to me...
I haven't seen any ATI cards mentioned so far...
Generally, Nvidia are fairly good with updates - as are BIS in fact...
Its VERY early days yet - lets see whats resolved with the next updates from BOTH parties...

What about my question? Should we be able to turn off the postprocessing in the options? Since you asked about it and belong to BI.....

What i wonder most is, why is it more visible on the right side of the screen?
First I thought there is something wrong with the programming because the weapon is on the right side too. The weapon never stands still, it is always moving a bit due to natural behavior, and the game recognize this as moving and blurs the environment like when you turning. On third person view the game doesn't recognize this as moving and doesn't blur the world.
But on the other hand it is also still there when you play a soldier without a weapon......
Since it is worse with post processing on the highest level, there could be a chance that the flickering will disappear when we could turn off post processing???

I managed to get the flickering also in the TPV!
Right now i onlay play around in TPV, since FPV is unplayable for me, so when i once zoomed my weapon to the ironsight-mode when i changed my mag ArmA2 zoomes out (so i can watch my avatar changing his mag) et voilá there was the flickering in TPV.
So BI what diffrence is in the graphics between the TPV and the FPV because that seems to be the problem?

I hope this bug will be fixed with the next patch...
Me too as untill i upgrade i have a 7950GT.
I have seen this behaviour before when trying to add motion blur to fallout 3 via the enbseries.dll, exactly the same behaviour. Pulsing that affects the full screen but oddly seems more prevelant on the right. I think this is a problem with the 7 series hardware, the chap with the 8800 is most likely not getting this exact behaviour but rather suffering the blur that kicks in at low fps.
It will be unplayable in first person, the fact that it is not there in third person or when you hit escape and open gfx options means it may be fixable but its probable that the only solution would be offering the option to disable motion blur and maybe depth of field.
Bushlurker
Jun 3 2009, 19:40
I AM that 8800 chap! :)
My flickering issue is at its most noticable on the main titles cutscene with the aircraft carrier - no "blur" - no motion... its a cutscene...
Its a steady flickering the full height of the right hand- most third of the screen...
I DO have low FPS - about 10 or so at that point usually, but I don't think its related.....

Hi welcome to the club!
Seems like ppl with a GF 7950GT are kind of fu..ed since this seems to be a general problem with the gpu.
Right now i am at work but as soon as i come home i will download the final 1.01 patch and keep my fingers crossed that the problem will be fixed, even if i don´t have high hopes since the beta patch did zilch for this problem.

I have installed the newest patch 1.01 final and nothing is fixed on our issue anyways (at least for me).
Maybe it will help you on your machine tho.
And I also think the 7950gt underperforms in Arma 2, yes the card is old but on the lowest setting it should run better imo. But I think it has to do with the issue of blurriness and flickering.

All we can do is wait, I know it sucks but getting angry wont help you and the devs. Just relax ;D

Hmmnja that was what i thought and since the next patch isn´t due until end of the month we will have to wait.
But i guess as long as the genpop is happy BI is gonna give a rodents rear!
Whats the likelyhood of this being fixed?
Im toying with the idea of building a new system but I am a very cheap man, i know i could augment my current system to run arma pretty well at low-mid detail for little cost but it would mean using my 7950GT as the GPU.
Im a little hesitant to build now with new tech in the early adopter stage, as i only want to use the machine to play arma2. It would be better for me to wait a year or so. This issue seems to be a hardware problem, im not confident it can be fixed by BIS, a little signal to whether its being looked at or whether motion blur, which is the cause of the problem, will become an option would be very helpfull to me.
Thanks if you oblige and eternal grumpiness if not.

This kind of flickering occurs, if two textures share the same coordinates (same plane). You can avoid this by using the decaling technique (stencil buffer).

Um ok.. can I even do this at software level?. I'm sure this is related to slow loading textures bug which I also get. Is everyone getting these issues or is it only a few?.
Its most annoying when your sniper (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-MzS9qG_hA) as everytime you zoom in most objects are flickering which is totally unrealistic and spoils the feel of the game, it would be 100% better if not for this (these?) damn bugs.
When I was using my old 8800GTX setup in Arma I'm sure I was getting the same issue so I want to know if the current nvidia card are also getting it and its not just
an ATI issue.
Hallo,
