- gfx driver?
- setttings

check my signature and report bugs there, attach screenshots with fraps if possible.

this used to happen in ofp and arma1 when something would block your internet. Are you sure nothing blocking?

9.5 may be better?

most likely.

Do you use router? It often has own firewall, or even more often is piece of crap that fails. And windows has built in firewall, check it twice.

I would also like to add you should always have a firewall ON

Router firewalls do not protect you properly, windows firewalls are pathetic

Check out zonealarm and comodo they supply firewalls for free

"windows firewalls are pathetic" like every other personal firewall installed on your client is.

And in what way is this a constructive post?

Garack, did you try to host a session yourself?

Im talking about home users firewalls and the windows ones are no good

XP only has a one way firewall useless and the vista/7 ones are not much better

I only say this in the interest of the people posting, I don't want anyone to have poor protection, sorry for trying to help :j:

I have a firewall but i granted ArmA 2 like i did with ArmA 1...

We definately need a bug tracker...

This happens to me too. And I don't have any firewalls (software/router) enabled at all...

**UPDATE**

After letting it sit at a black screen for about two minute it kicked me back to the online game browser. I then clicked the join button for the same server and I connected just fine.

I joined a selfmade coop map and it worked.
After that Campaign coop and the black screen appeared.

Ill try to wait a little longer maybe it works for me too.

Beitritt zum Spiel, that's what my screen says and doesn't connect to anything. I have COMODO firewall but I disabled it.

It seems to be related to the various NAT configurations, and it seems when I disabled all network interfaces on our server, except the internet one, the problem disappeared for now..

Adding to this list. People I've played with, around 7-8 all have trouble connecting to various servers. Happens most with client servers but also occasionally with dedicated servers, you'll join and it will get stuck on the black 'Joining' screen and requires you to end the process to get off it. If you try to connect enough times eventually you seem to be able to get in.

For myself I have a router that I am DMZed on and a firewall that has been turned off since I got arma 2 and the problem is still occuring. I can host/join any other game with no problems.

I have same issue..... But when I unplug my router and plug my pc straight to modem this doesn't happen. Not sure why. With the Router pluged in i tried playing around with the port forwarding and what not but no go I didnt have this issue with ArmA 1.

Does this happen:

- on all servers, on some servers only, which one do you experience it with for sure?

- during Join in progress only or also when the session is in the lobby?

- with all missions / some missions - in which mission have you seen it?

Basically every server.

- during Join in progress only or also when the session is in the lobby?
For me only while the mission is running so far.

- with all missions / some missions - in which mission have you seen it?
All missions from BI and any community mission.

For me, it happens mostly when the game is running, I have more success to connect when the server is waiting in the lobby.

My friends and I only get it when one of us is hosting a game. There are no problems when joining dedicated servers, just the client servers.
Sometimes they can join, sometimes they can't, its very random.

It doesn't happen anymore on our server (to my knowledge), since I disabled the network adapter connected to LAN (without gateway setup though).
Now there is only a single network adapter enabled, hooked directly to Internet.

Strange. I never had this problem in Arma 2 and i have a WLAN Router.
Really is some odd case.

All servers. It happens alot more on client servers, but still occurs on dedicated servers. Usually if you keep trying to connect you will eventually get in. I noticed that if I input the wrong password for a client server I was getting this consistently but was then able to connect after 1/2 retries with the correct password.

- during Join in progress only or also when the session is in the lobby?

Both.

- with all missions / some missions - in which mission have you seen it?

All missions.

We have found the reason and it will be fixed in the Patch 1.02.
The Patch 1.01 for German version is able to use key ESC to leave the connecting to server in its "black screen" phase so reconnecting can be done much faster at least. The problem happens only when connecting to servers behind firewalls (NAT).

This also happens with me and some friends, but we are able to joing the server while the hoster awaits us at the mission start up map.
When he starts the mission and await for us in the map. before starting the mission.
Best regards.

The problem happens only when connecting to servers behind firewalls (NAT).Might be only a confirmation or otherwise hopefully helpful; Also happened when a 2nd NIC was connected to a LAN. So 1st NIC was directly on public internet.
No NAT, though still the connection issue. Disabled the 2nd connection, problem gone.
Dedicated Server.
