This thread is for discussing my future pvp missions in Arma 2. I will release public beta versions here for evaluation.

Zombies vs. survivors team deathmatch. Zombies have heightened senses and physique.

I never really got around to making a decent version of playable zombies in CZM (Dont know if Charonos added it in later versions but i doubt it). Anyway, if you need any zombie related help ill be around for ArmA2 as well. Seeing as 'reloading while moving' is a possibilty now 'punching while moving' or something similiar could make this pretty interesting/playable from a zombie POV.

Freely roaming DM with large respawn moving to center of player mass.

Though i prefer TDM i really like this concept.

I've already made DM Zombies! in Armed Assault with quite advanced zombie mechanics such as leaping, smelling, groaning and vulnerability only to headshots and fire. The TDM version is basically just an official change of game mode because the original mission was often played with teams anyway.

I can think of so many crazy ideas involving dogs, shotguns and animal on animal violence that I'd rather keep the wildest dreams to myself for now. :292:

How about some more objective based PvP missions?

Example, a USMC squad of 5 players must attack and destroy a radio tower being guarded by at least two times the amount of Spetsnaz. I've always wondered what CoD would be like if people actually patrolled an area carefully.

I might make something vaguely similar in regard to gameplay mechanics but in my experience objective pvp is extremely hard to do properly in a way that fun is had by everyone. You have to remember that you can't set the skill level of players and that they will always expect actions that the other team needs to do in order to win. Designing a pvp mission is all about taking the human factor into account when it comes to rules and possibilities. Quick Counter-Strike style objective missions are a possibility.

I was thinking about standard features to add to my missions and here are some easily implemented ones:

End stats
In addition to most kills, it's possible to show the best kill/death ratio, longest distance kill, most effective player (kills/time), best accuracy (kills/shots fired) and the likes. That way there can be many "winners" in addition to the number one player on the score board, not to mention multiple things you might want to achieve. I've already tried this in DM Long Range and some string related bugs aside it works fine.

Standardized script template with variable activation
It's mostly a technical feature but in the long run it saves time and makes it easier and faster to make the mission I want without having to write new scripts for each mission. In practise it means that all special stuff such as leg protection and healing, prone/camp restriction, accuracy/power boost and so on are all ready to be used in each mission file, activated with the flick of a boolean variable.



Also some experimental equipment that are theoretically possible with scripting (no mods required):

FAG 9000
A shotgun-type projectile launcher that flings a large and deadly slug at your enemies. The more you reload, the more you'll have ammo for it. In reality it's a flare launcher with script enhanced muzzle velocity making the flares deadly. I already made it in Armed Assault and it works fine save for unreliable kill detection.

Homing bunnies
Unleash a ferocious bunny that homes in on the nearest enemy it sees, hops to it and explodes in a magnificent manner. Alternatively it could be remotely controlled by the player if I can find a way to do it.

Heartbeat detector
You will get audible feedback based on how close you are pointing the thing at another player. It requires some advanced math scripting but it can be done. Unfortunately I'm not very advanced at mathematics.

Violator beam
As seen in Quake Wars. I've actually made it work in Armed Assault and let me tell you, it's awesome. Basically you paint a vector with a laser designator and a giant laser beam will come from the sky and demolish everything in its path (everything that has a classname that is). My only concern is how to make it work in multiplayer synchronization and kill detection-wise.

Remote controlled missile
If I can find out how to change the movement vector of rockets/missiles, this should be a piece of cake.

I've played the demo a couple of times and that's it. How is the artillery system special?

In ET:QW a field ops can place artillery in certain places, usually bases or camps. He can then go to the front line and use a kind of targeting laser to pick a target or position that the artillery should fire upon. Alternatively he can throw a an airstrike marker, which is basically a glorified smoke grenade.

EDIT: I just realized, I misinterpreted your question. I don't know how the ET:QW system is special, tbh.

Well, it's like MadDogX described. It's "special" compared to a "point on map & clic for magic arty to kill your ennemies" system in that :
- there is a real artillery gun that can be disabled (nothing new compared to Warfare, there) and placed at will by field ops
- Artillery has range limitation (is it the case in warfare?)
- Engineering class of the opposite faction can put up anti-artillery turrets to protect a zone from artillery fire.
- you have to lock with your laser marker for a certain amount of time. Meaning you must go in the front and act as FAC, you can't stay in the back and get it working with impunity. Tbh, I've seen the same in public Warfare in ArmA with FAC directing arty and air fire, but I also liked ETQW version.
- artillery are of several types, there's 1 specific "anti-vehicle" artillery (not really artillery in this case, but ET:QW is not really realistic settings ;) ), firing a salvo of rockets spaced by few seconds each, which will follow your laser designator, meaning you can redirect the rocket in-flight. You can also lock the rocket targets on moving vehicles and don't bother aiming afterwards (kind of like the Hellfire LOAL mode)

The fact that ennemy can counter you and protect his most important assets kind of enhance teamplay (in fact, ETQW is full of gameplay done like that).
You can in turn counter the counter with different methods, ofc. Violator/Airstrike are amongst these methods (not blocked by anti artillery turrets)

Well, don't get me started on QuakeWars, I could go on and on for hours :D

That's an interesting system, I'll see if I can do it for some of my larger missions (if there will be any). The whole ETQW system definitely is worth checking out as a game mode for Arma 2.

This preview (http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=5694) was quite an interesting read. It looks like I have to make a deathmatch on the carrier's deck, it just needs to be done. If the "outlands" are properly made in the final release, I might abuse it as well. The addition of plane countermeasures is a very interesting one and I'll probably make a proper jet deathmatch at long last because AA missiles aren't so overpowered anymore.

MCY should have gone ETQW instead of CoD4, honestly ;) Tried a bit to get the PS guys into it at that time, but not enough, aparently :)

In other news, the new DM template is progressing slowly but surely. It will have a comprehensive tutorial to help other users make their own full fledged deathmatches with little trouble.

I like this idea too but I really can't see it in ArmA2. It works in CS because the maps are small and mainly in urban areas with a lot of objects defaultly placed.. and BIS games (with all respect!) didn't really excel in indoor fighting.. you would need to place a lot of objects to the map yourself to gave the players a chance to hide. It would be nice to put like a hundred of objects in the city (a play area) and give every one of them a probability of being there though.. that would put the attacking team into real paranoia :D

And to contribute my idea of a mission: since we will have animals in the game, let's use them in another way then shooting them. My idea is this: Two teams with their bases (much like any CTI) but only with light vehicles and transport choppers to build. They would go individually or in search parties into forests to find animals (randomly generated over time).. once they find some, the animal AI will "join the team" and can be transported back to base (a "farm" :)). If the soldier with the animal in team is killed the animal AI will join the nearest soldier (well, in a certain range, like 15m or so). Since the concept is not realy about combat so far, you could spawn some guerrilas into forests (animal rights activists :rolleyes:) that would engage any soldier in sight, so the search wouldn't be just about blind running. The winning team is the one that will accumulate the most animals in their base (in a certain period of time).

There.. that's my idea of a FArmA mission :cool:

For those who think that this concept is very much like sheep-hunting in Age of Epmires 2 - you are right, that was the inspiration!:p

I saw it, could be a nice optional feature for DM Farm where you'd use the cows for cover anyway.

Unfortunately there have been some complications. My PC starts overheating after running A2 for a few minutes and some editing functions that were in previous games are not available anymore, most irritatingly custom voices so Vodka is impossible. I'm selling my game very soon and I can only hope to leave something for the community to play with before that happens. Getting a new computer doesn't seem possible in the imminent future but if nothing else, I might install the EU version of A2 on my cousin's newer PC and visit him more frequently to get some editing done.

Sneak peak of one of my more predictable ideas. If I succeed in scripting it somehow, it will drive like a vehicle without addons.

I've resumed work on the DM script framework and to my surprise I can run A2 at 640x480 without overheating thanks to the 1.04 patch! Thanks BIS! :icon_hug:

On a lighter note my DM template is looking pretty good at least in the editor, won't be long (few days) until it's ready for beta. I also invented a crude body armor script (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=88078) that may see some action in my missions if it gets developed further.

The DM template is ready for MP testing, only thing I need now is a proper public server to carry out the testing. Help anyone? :)

In theory once the template is finished and bug-free, I could release a new working deathmatch every day. And I have pre-made the editor part of some of them. :cool:

you don't have to crap it, just use terrain as obstacles instead of objects :h:

I dunno how 'proper' it is, but I run the dedi exe off my rig when I host missions, and I have the server cfg, arma2 cfg, and arma2profiles files all set.
The only thing it lacks from a regular dedicated server is bandwidth.

The template is almost working fine and only a few features remain to be added and tested, the first proper deathmatches will go beta this month.

A pack will take longer but I'll be able to make missions super fast thanks to the template.

If I can implement this in a smart way, it will see the light of day in an aircraft DM I'm planning to make. At the moment the gunner ejects if the aircraft banks more than 90° or goes upside down.

The deathmatch features an improved object layout with more cover and less killzones for respawning players. It still lacks an anti-camp system (other than anti-prone) and player statistics but that will change in later versions. All critique is welcome.

They're more like AAD (Attack and Defend) and I reckon Celery could do them well but for the meantime let the master of DM give the community their DM fix :)

I vote for 'Vodka' to be the next convert ;)

My first OFP deathmatch ever is once again ready for maximum carnage. The map is very small, although slightly bigger than the previous versions, so it's perfect for a quick fix of PK or RPG mayhem with unlimited ammo. Please don't be cruel to the animals (grant them a swift death instead)! ;)

I'm proud to present...

DM UAV Rage v0.84 (beta)

What was planned to be a poor man's substitute for Camel Rage quickly formed its own identity with the potential to become even greater than its ancestor. You fly the Russian Pchela-1T UAV in Chernogorsk's industrial district gunning down your enemies and refilling your ammunition and armor by flying under any structure you can manage to fly under! You can recognize easy prey and dangerous aces just by looking at the colors of their wingtip smoke. You can select your smoke colors by changing your slot in the setup screen. The aerial deathmatch has 16 player slots and uses the EasyFly script (http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=90955) to make controlling the UAV possible for humanoid lifeforms. No addons needed!

It doesn't support AI so you won't have any opposition in SP.

If it's a team mission, I'd recommend removing the addRating command.

I'll probably make it for CAA1 at some point. What bothers me though is that all aircraft explode with the fury of a thousand suns, destroying all other aircraft within 15 meters, making close range dogfighting very bothersome.

Sorry for being a lazy pig for the past two months. To appease your wrath I'm pushing out Road Rage for A2 probably within the week. :)

I'm currently pondering if I should include a nitro boost feature similar to the rarely seen Road Rage v1.08 in Arma 1. The car will go faster when you press the appropriate key and it empties your fuel tank quickly. However, the handling feels a bit unnatural. Perhaps I'll make it a parameter option at first and see if it adds anything to the experience.

At the moment there's no way around it. The only hope is that BIS gets rid of the obligatory mid-air explosion (or makes it relative to fuel and ammo level like in A1) when an aircraft reaches 0 health.

DM Road Rage v0.81 (beta)

Road Rage is a car deathmatch where you drive around in Chernogorsk shooting your enemies with rockets. You have to keep your speed above 30 km/h or your car catches fire and burns. There is a turbo feature that makes your car accelerate faster by pressing any key assigned to reload, toggle weapons or quick command. The turbo consumes fuel but you can refuel by jumping off the ramps or going through tunnels that also refill your ammunition.

It's up on one of my servers for testing (USA PvP - No ACE) if anyone wants to try it. This particular server will most likely only be up a few more days so try it while you can. It's not in the auto-rotation (just in case it doesn't end properly like Celery stated) so vote yourself admin (#vote admin yourname) and select it. And have fun! ;)

My feedback:

I played it last night with one other person (who had a hard time figuring it out?). I had to explain how to spawn vehicles, etc... which I thought you did a fine job of putting in hints to explain it. So I didn't understand his problem...

I found the turbo button annoying, as I remapped a few keys (space bar mainly). I steer with A and D, which makes it hard to press R or F. I will probably configure a joystick just for this map, so don't change nothing on my account. I'll work around it.

Anyways, I liked it a lot. I was able to escape the perimeters though (I figured you intended for that not to happen) and was able to cruise around Chernarus ducking under bridges to keep my gas up.

Proper feedback would be more than 2 people playing it (with one getting frustrated and quitting), so I'm sorry I don't have more for you...

Thanks though for releasing it, I will keep trying to test it.


EDIT - Had 5 people playing and it was a blast. I agree with needing more ramps (as said below) and I realize now you didn't have the barriers blocking all the exits, just the roads. So disregard my comment about being able to sneak out.

I suggest adding barriers to the docks to prevent/discourage driving into the water. More ramps please, they are more fun than driving under obstacles and are an easier to identify rearm/refuel point.

I will provide more feedback after a proper mp round.

I'm open to suggestions in assigning more actions to the turbo. Any action that has no use during driving can be assigned, however game controllers are still out because the user interface event handler doesn't return the true control ID on button press. With the mouse it was fairly easy to figure out by adding the primary mouse button ID to the returned button index, and I'm trying to figure out if it's possible to do with joysticks and pads. I could map all controller buttons other than #1 to the turbo but I'd prefer a more sophisticated solution.

No borders was an intentional solution, the lax roadblocks are a gentle nudge to keep where the action is, since common sense dictates that you won't find anything to kill outside town. And if you're having an epic chase, I thought it best not to restrict it artificially.

I'm now working on Heli Rage which seems to be a speedy task thanks to the largely compatible script base of Road Rage. My only fear is that it'll turn out to be a boring hover-fest but we'll see. :supercool:

DEATHMATCH PLUS v0.88 (beta)

This is a pretty normal infantry deathmatch, more specifically a remake of Bohemia Interactive's 01: Deathmatch. The grass has been removed, there is more cover and increased accessibility to make the gameplay livelier. Deathmatch Plus introduces a first person death camera that shows your killer's point of view. It's not much but it looks cool. I hope you like it at least more than the original! :D

This is a port of mp_shipment, a small multiplayer map from Call of Duty 4. It features the weapons that are available in that game and players have a regeneration ability much like in CoD4.

Hey celery, i have a little fix for the keyEH. I always use the spacebar for turbo, but since that key also brings up the command menu it makes it impossible to fire with the mousebutton (you could click all you want, but the menu would receive the mouseclicks instead of your keyEH). This has caused quite some missed kills at zeus :)

Vanilla has been updated to 0.90a. A bug that makes the respawn marker not work properly for JIP clients has been fixed. The bug is pretty serious if someone gets it so updating is recommended.

It´s not. We usually end our coop evenings with Road Rage, and most of them start off with Shipment or one of the farms.
Tequila between two coop missions is very refreshing too :D

I know what you're thinking but CWR2 is one of the few big mods that will have a mainstream following on public servers once it gets flesh (playable content) around its bones (addons). Gotta admit we usually called Celery a cheater on TS when he was handing us our arses in road rage for the umpteenth time, but his recent video of him pwning us again on Kolgujev shows that it´s in fact all skill (or a lack thereof on our side :D).

The players have the ability to spawn and ride a motorcycle any time they want. This 30 player mission uses my new PVP script template that supports all the traditional PVP modes.

I'm yet to play most of your missions which I think is really f'kin sad, is there not one server owner in Australia that has the balls to run a dedi PvP server?

Qwertz of Armacalypse offered to buy and house a server for me to run... but 60+ hours a week working and I just don't have the time :(

Celery we tried TFF Minefuck last night. Unfortunately after respawn and for JIP players, it was no longer possible to spawn motorbikes.
Can someone else confirm that problem?

Celery the vehicle generation works now in Minefuck. Fun mission. :)
That said the terrain is very steep. It'd be better to play in a larger city or wooden area.

One more issue: On JIP you don't get the flag markers.

Thanks for the valuable bug report, looks like I'll have to revise the way markers are done! :)

Incidentally the animstate select bug has already been dealt with in the current version of the mission template as I used a more universal method to check prone position (it'll stay in the mission until I update the scripts in all of them). I do wonder, maybe you were using the pvp animation pack?

Missions updated to v0.9a. Can't remember the changes, but they now have all the fixes and additions that the CWR² pvp missions do.
