View Full Version : Red Hammer v1.30 all gone tits up

MonkeyGoat
Nov 30 2001, 23:43
My specs are Athlon 1.3ghz,256ram,sb live,geforce2 mx400(latest drivers)

After having enjoyed ofp for many months yesterday I eagerly bought the gold update.
After installing everything ran fine, except when I complete a mission and click on continue I now crash to desktop.
I've tried reinstalling several times, but even when I leave it on v1.0 i can't progress through the missions. Same as if I had 1.30 installed.

Also I've now discovered that I can no longer update the other patches, as they dont't run anymore. It seems either red hammer or v1.30 has made everything go tits up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh and I'm running Windows ME.

The exact same thing happens to me, except that I'm running OFP only (no gold update).

I noticed this after updating to v1.30, but after several uninstall/reinstalls, this still happens. It doesn't work in any of the versions I have tried (v1.0, v1.20 & v1.30).

System specs:

Windows ME
Athlon 1.4 Ghz
MSI K7T Turbo (VIA KT133A)
256 Ram
Onboard audio (VIA)
3dfx Voodoo3 3000

Newest drivers & updates for everything

B.I.S needs a Red Hammer only Troubleshooting forum so guys with RH (dont have it yet) can seek more accurate help on the software.

I dont't understand why it happens when i reinstall though, I thought I'd removed all of the entries in the registry and all of the files.

Hi guys! I have the same Problem. Just bought Red Hammer, and OFP quits after completing every misson to desktop. It happens even after uninstalling, clearing the Registry, and reinstalling ver 1.0.

Specs:
Win 98SE, Duron 800, ASUS A7Pro, 512 MB RAM, SB live, Leadtek Winfast SH MAX( GeForce2MX400, 64mb)

Hey B.I.S!!! I´m quite pissed!!

Can you try manually setting your Windows virtual swap file size to 1000 to see if that resolves the problem?

Let us know.

No luck, but thx anyway.

this all happens to me with just the bog standard basic retail OPF without any upgrades! hoping that an upgrade would fix it, i installed it, but still no joy. doesn't it just piss you off?

WTF??? I played it for weeks, and now even ver 1.0 doesn´t work? I have 512MB RAM and 1,5 - 1,8 GB to swap, so it can´t be a memory problem. Latest drivers and BIOD didn´t help either. Perhaps formatting C:\ and installing a fresh Windows would help to play ver1.0-1.2 but its too much work to try out. Any volunteers?

Could it be that upgrading the OFP Gold Upgrade over an install that's already at version 1.30 messes things up, just as upgrading from 1.29 to 1.30 does?

Can you folks sound off: from what version are you upgrading from to OFP Gold?

BIS, are you watching?

Hey guys, I've fixed it, my problem was clone cd. After removing it then installing ofp, then reinstalling clonecd everything was fine. I don't know if this helps, or whether ofp doesn't like other cd writing software which you may have, but good luck anyway and thanks for your help avonlady.

theavonlady
Dec 3 2001, 11:11
How did you get to thinking about CloneCd? I mean, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the symptoms you were experiencing (CTD at mission end).

What can I say I'm a genius. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Seriously though I vaguely remember something about ofp not liking writing software, or maybe it was some other game and I just got lucky!

theavonlady
Dec 3 2001, 13:07
That's true but to the best of my knowledge CDRW software only affects OFP during startup, install and upgrading. Pretty odd. OFP doesn't access the CD drive after startup.

MonkeyGoat
Dec 3 2001, 13:37
I think that somehow it does affect it during the startup, which is why what I did fixed it. However it doesn't cause any error messgaes and you can still play missions. Weird. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif

theavonlady
Dec 3 2001, 13:52
I'm confused. You reported this as a case of CTD after playing a mission, not at startup. So what do you mean by "I think that somehow it does affect it during the startup, which is why what I did fixed it"?

Well, I don't have CloneCD installed, so it doesn't help me.

I'll try installing it, maybe that helps. http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Monkey Goat, wowwwwwwwwwww !!! you are a genious !!! ... YOU ARE RIGHT !! CloneCD has a lot to deal with in all this crashes to desktop after ending missions. Now every thing goes well. I also unistalled BlindWrite Suite which has some extrange CD controler driver, and works terrific now !! ...
EVERYBODY having problems, take note ... uninstall CloneCD, and i'm wondering if everyone having problems trying to upgrade to 1.30 can tell us if uninstalling CloneCD the patch upgrades correctely.

Thanks a lot Monkey http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

What are we supposed to do then freaking uninstall our CD burning Software - NO - I payed 40 dollars for a game that doesnt work. Not only that but when i go to play Multiplayer On gamespy i have to deal with solicitations(ads) . WHAT IS THAT ? CODEMASTERS HAS A GREAT PROJECT GOING FOR THEM BUT I THINK THEY RUSHED OUT A HOLIDAY DELIVERY...and left consumers in the pit of despair. I do however appreciate their efforts to console us...but thats about all they are doing

theavonlady
Dec 4 2001, 05:51
I'm curious. Several of you have resolved the problem by uninstalling CloneCD or possibly other burner software.

On the other hand, MaxDamage has manage to resolve the problem by installing CloneCD. (Maybe that's why he's called MaxDamage http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif ).

Now, again, don't you find it strange that OFP is referencing anything to do with the CD after mission completion?

So here's a question to those of you that still have the problem or that refuse to uninstall or install burner software: If you remove the CD after OFP starts up, does the problem still occur?

Just to chime in uninstalling CloneCD seems to help. I uninstalled, and then re-installed OFP 1.3 and was able to progress. As soon as I re-installed CloneCD, everything went back to ####.

What I want to know is why is there a conflict with CloneCd and OFP?

theavonlady
Dec 4 2001, 06:36
According to MaxDamage, CloneCD adds the following file to Windows:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IoSubSys\ElbyCDIO.vxd

Now, chances are that this file somehow interferes with I/O to and/or from your CDRW drive.

My previous question still remains: what connection is there between mission completion and CD I/O and would the problem be resolved if OFP's CD was removed from the drive beforehand, without uninstalling CloneCD?

I think Clone-CD is only a part of the problem... I've experienced that some remaining registry entries after uninstalling OPF infact do compromise the reinstallation of OPF. I had to face this problem for several times until I MANUALLY (NO AUTOMATIC MODE!!) removed all entries from Codemasters in Windows-registry (via freeware "regcleaner v4.3" - just search the internet, available almost everywhere), restarted and then setup & upgrading worked fine! Just try it... Hope it helpes you

Sorry Avonlady, when I said startup I meant installation.

hes right. Clonecd screws it up; I noticed this right after I bought the full version. I wish I read this thread earlier, cause I "fixed" the problem by reinstalling windows..*sigh*..and whats worse, is now I cant select 4 channel analog "surround sound" for my fortissimo sound card. I think my computer hates me

Just to update. CloneCD works fine with the other versions of OFP, just not 1.30. I'm using CloneCD 3.2.2.1 licensed US version. I hope BIS releases a patch soon.

Someone bloody well better release a patch, and soon too. Having emailed this prob to CM, I eventually got a reply of do this, try that blah blah. Needless to say it doont work. I rely on CCD to quickly backup my data, as nero is a bit of a pain. Having to live without CCD is... unmentionable.
I'll probably find I can't print either until I remove Gold http://www.flashpoint1985.com/ikonboard3/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
